Fantastic.

I don't want to get into it, but I find it pretty silly when game companies like Bethesda go and wear rainbow ribbons and change their twitter avatars to support some thing that they're not really supporting.

No link to any charitable service or anything, just a bullshit condolences tweet, rainbow avatar and some ribbons an assistant bought this morning at Michaels. But they got the queers' backs!

If you don't want to get into it, why bring it up?

Do you write for the verge any chance

~~~
It's no different from people on FB changing their avatars to = signs and then patting themselves on the back. Like, one of the McElroys tweeted some shit about 'WHY AREN'T JOURNALISTS ASKING THESE QUESTIONS ABOUT VIDEOGAME VIOLENCE' and it's like, is it 2006 again, is Jack Thompson here?
Like...it's nice of Bethesda to show solidarity. It's good for people to show solidarity after events like this. But really, they have no obligation to. It's a gesture. A gesture I think that's lazy IMO, but y'know, it's something.
VIDEO EVIDENCE ME
This bothers me so much for some reason
Ignore the commentary and skip to like 3:40. This is the intro of the mechanic so it gets more complex, but essentially when you hit the stones, the area around the stones gets transported several years into the past
holy crap was skyward sword a friggin ps2 game
Well, kinda? The Wii can't do hd it's barely more powerful than a GameCube
Most of them are stationary switches but then there's this one.
Ok I dig it, atleast that implementation looks visually different from 'Hold thing to your face and see part of the past/future'. I love the commentator, he's commentating, supposedly the game, and he's like 'I'm going to do this skyward sword, uh, I mean slash, against this enemy'.
This is great
"bobikins"
BOBIKINS AM I RIGHT
And the implementation I mentioned, where it physically changes the area around the orb ball thing to the past, that's cool and different.
Well a) it WAS a Wii game, and B) the art style was based on colors and a filter that made things look like impressionist paintbrush strokes and an amateur youtube quality video is not going to capture that well
It looks amazing in Dolphin.
Super bummed we didn't get any Wolfenstein news, but I guess I'll just play DOOM some more.
I actually had a CRT I used for Wii games at times, and it definitely looked better than on a modern TV.
Also one of the cooler timeshift stone moments was putting it in a motorboat and driving it around a desert lake bed, except there was a circle of water around you and reefs and sandbars would pop up with enemies on them
I respected that they had the rainbow ribbons though I totally support you in making the criticism.
I can see the argument, but I thought it was nice. They didn't mention it out loud, but they pulled a Google, nice way to acknowledge something extremely serious that isn't really related to the events of video games.
HOLY SHIT HOW DID I MISS THIS
Yeah, I had a PVM for a while that I used for Smash and everything looked amazing on it. At a certain display size, IQ doesn't look as "rough" IMO.
But the desert / lake time shift mechanic was probably my favorite part of that game, outside of the boss fights with MotionPlus controls.
