A 750 Ti is a full generation ahead. It's like comparing the Scorpio to GPUs released in 2018 and 2019. OF COURSE they'll keep up.

But you'll definitely need more than current (1070) 6 Gflops on PC to match that console output. Probably a match for the Scorpio will be at least a 1080 right now, or a 1080 Ti for same or slightly better performance at same settings/resolution. The follow up of the 1070/1080 will probably match the Scorpio for a lower price, of course.
Face palm. Some people are in for a rude awakening. Time and time again, we have seen both the PS4/Xbox One perform pretty close to their PC counterparts in the DF tests.

Will you be able to buy a relatively cheap video card to match the Scorpio if you wait one or two years after the Scorpio release? Yes.

Will you be able to match Scorpio's performance if you buy right now anything less than a 1080? Nope.

Ok yes ill wait 4 years to look foolish lol .. Whilst i already have plenty of awesome 360 and xbox one games to play along with more pc games than ever before. Other than uncharted im struggling to see anything im missing out on .. Mind u i have forza halo recore gears of war scalebound qunatum break ... Oh wait only im not alowed to comment on console wars thats right lol
.. My bad :)

You won't be here much longer. Your bad indeed.

This reveal was spectacular for how to frame a new console and use developers to sell it. NIntendo should take a long hard look at how they handle announcing their consoles and approaching developers, Microsoft just put on a masterclass in marketing a new console.

PS4/PC darksouls 3? The Witcher? We're talking 7750 equivalent GPU's right?

Nah we're talking 7870 equivalent. Well, the PS4 is slightly weaker but still stronger than the 7850. A 7870 will run those games better than the PS4. You can easily max DS3 at 30fps with a 7870 for example.

Part of the reason might be CPU related though.

Umm 1070 , GTX titan, R390x etc are all above Scorpio.

So, I have to say it. Is MSFT/Sony taking the steam machine approach now? I can see how this affects software. So i'm not wrong in my assertion.

7750 921 GLOPS
Xbox One 1.34 TFLOPS
PS4 1.84 TFLOPS

Xbox One is close to 7770 GHz Edition (1.28 TFLOS) and PS4 is close to 7850 (1.76 TFLOPS).

You can get bench with these cards using the same resolution and settings details... the result will be close (Xbox One and PS4 will have slight edge due the slight bigger raw power).

Digital Foundry tests always shows that with exception of unoptimized ports like Batman.

Uhhh. First off, a 1070 runs laps around the scorpio in real world performance terms. And the 480 that releases june 29th(this month) is pretty much scorpio's equivalent with some overclocking, and that's $230 for the good version.

All that power won't get taken advance of if they have to cater to the Xbone original.

Is that what happens to PC games? Oh wait... :p

Look, now a days most games are optimized on PC, then ported down to consoles, so when you have games struggling on X1 while running at 900p or 720p and 30fps, you can have that same game at 1080p/60fps with the same texture fidelity as the PC counterpart. That sounds good to me.

This marketing talk was being layed on thick there.

There's an AMD GPU coming out in a few weeks that will come close to matching it for $200-$250. So yeah, next year there will be a relatively cheap GPU that will be able to exceed that.

it was pretty good, but I hurt inside inside when one of them said something along the lines of "this is the best quality pixels that anyone has ever seen" though

Edit: now that i play it back there was some painful marketing talk in there.

Yeah, rag doll + thin CPU = FPS dips.

Outside of one company completely shitting the bed at a console's launch (Sega with the Saturn, Sony with the PS3, and MS with the Xbox One), I can't even really think of any such example occurring regardless of launching earlier, or being more powerful. I guess the Genesis kinda works as an example of an early launch shifting momentum... but I'd put that just as much down to Nintendo being dicks to everyone in the industry at the time, and Sega being fucking exceptional.

I think that's another good point, it takes the one with the momentum to really screw up for a real change...a combination of lower specs, higher prices, and poor consumer messaging/perception.

The nice thing about Sony wanting to protect it's current userbase, and MS being hungry and aggressive, is that it should keep both competitive and less complacent, which benefits consumers.

How often are those PC cards paired with garbage-tier netbook CPU's tho? :P

The 7850 is 1.7TF. So very close to PS4 specs wise.

Yeah that's where console CPU optimization kicks in. Although even garbage tier CPUs can hold 30fps even in DS3.

All that power won't get taken advance of if they have to cater to the Xbone original.

They've said all xbox one family games and hardware will work on it, they explicitly didn't say all Scorpio software will work on xbox one - as it won't, the video makes it clear they want that extra power to create new experiences not possible on the xbox one.

Please, people like you are the ones who started the console war in this thread.

And yeah, you're going to be looking foolish in the end.

Can't say much more than "no". Not even close.

AMD cards (of the same architecture as PS4!) that perform similar to 750Ti are the R7 260X or R7 265 (or rather something in between). Source. Those cards are - surprise - about 1.8 TFLOPS, same as PS4.

How do you explicitly not say something?

Umm 1070 , GTX titan, R390x etc are all above Scorpio.

No games are built or optimized directly for the 1070, titan or R390x.

Being part of a console with games built and optimized for the hardware is going to make it more comparable with a 1070, titan and R390x.

REGARDING VR:

Todd obviously wants to bring Fallout 4 VR to Scorpio, but thats on Vive.

But MS is also on good terms with Oculus.

Does this possibly mean that Scorpio supports both Vice and Oculus??

Scorpio will be good for 1080p/60fps and 4K/30fps. I see a lot of folks saying 4K/60fps--that's some monstrous horsepower not exactly attainable given those specs.
