Giant Bomb @ E3 2016 | WEED3

I'm honestly confused at how people thought that was a really good press conference, I think it goes both ways. All of it looked okay, but the only game that stood out to me was Horizon. Everything else was just alright.

Better stay away from twitter or the rest of Gaming, then. You'll be so confused your head might split open.

Indies, new IP's, non-generic games, persona 5, neo stuff, actual VR games and a less serious tone.

I could have used a few Indies and Persona as well (although Persona must be coming because Atlus said wait until E3), but we got new IPs, non-generic games, they said NEO wouldn't be there, we got realer VR games than I have seen anywhere else (which is sad), I just don't see how you could be bored by the conference. There were so many WTF moments and it moved so fast minus Skylanders and Lego.

I'm honestly fucking shocked by the lukewarm reaction here and on stream. That was fucking fantastic. By far the best conference.

Despite not being interested in most games they showed (I don't count that Kojima thing) I would agree.

Sony had the best presentation, Ubisoft the most fun, Bethesda showed the most games I might actually play and Microsoft also did stuff.

Here comes the jaded comments.

There were only like 3 games that actually looked interesting to me, overall it might be the best conference, but this was a weak E3 in general for me.

Only one of the major console makers showed Stardew Valley. A major distinction.
WAIT

is RE7 called Resident Evil 7 - Biohazard in the states and Biohazard 7 - Resident Evil in Japan

that's fucking hilarious

Resident Evil in the west, Biohazard in Japan. It was listed the way it was presumably so they can use the same trailer anywhere.

It was clearly the best conference. Game after game, no filler, actual announcements, not super dragged out...

Really weird that there weren't any indie games, though.

Edit: But yeah, it's been a super weak E3 in terms of surprises.

That was a really middling conference. Some really interesting stuff in the likes of Kojima's new game and Horizon (obviously), but the PSVR stuff looked really iffy, especially considering two of the five games shown were "experiences." I'm definitely not sold on PSVR and even the regular PS exclusives they showed other than those I mentioned didn't really strike me as great.

This is pretty much my take away from this other than the God of War game actually did interest me.

Sony Conference was great to me, best of the show thus far. So many great game showcases. Absolutely can't wait to play Horizon: Zero Dawn, I've been anticipating it since it's initial announcement.

I also don't get why they start talking about the structure of the presser all of a sudden. I don't know but "they needed someone to say the VR block is over" is not something I would've expected to hear from those guys.

New game reveals? Tons of unseen footage? Isn't that what we all want?

Yeah but none of the NEW games (save Kojima's) actually looked all that great. The God of War demo was pretty poor and didn't describe the game at all. The PSVR stuff was so shallow and incomplete. That other zombie game looked straight boilerplate. Detroit was almost exactly Heavy Rain.

Maybe they just didn't demo the right stuff (and I hope I'm wrong about this), but not much really struck my fancy.

lmao people get upset with the dudes after sony every year.

It's funny because they're clearly stating they find some of the stuff interesting, they loved Horizon and seem pretty positive on God of War. It's as if people just want to be negative about Giant Bomb, which is so damn ironic :lol

They showed more new stuff than Microsoft, but there's definitely more to critique in Sony's conference. At least with the MS conference I wasn't quizzically asking "What?" every few minutes.

IIRC Persona's got its own thing coming sometime later this week.

That being said, I don't think the conference was bad (aside from the Days Gone demo), but it wasn't as 'wow-y' as last year, either.

I love how people not losing their minds over games that dont look mindblowing makes them jaded.

MS had a better showing, IMO. It looks like theyre trying pretty hard to deliver on the games front, Horizon and Spidey are cool but nothing else stood out here.

Wish they woulda done indies.

Yeah. That was a surprise omission this year.

Also, I think Jeff was expecting too much from Sony. It's not easy to court big time developers to invest time and resources on a BIG PSVR experience.

I'm totally with Jeff on the VR experiences stuff though. All of that just looks great as a bulletpoint and the first day you get the headset.

God of War 4, Horizon Zero Dawn, Detroid and Resident Evil demos/trailers alone made that conference great for... to each their own I guess.

Also great to hear Last Guardian confirmed for this year.

Your first paragraph nails it.

They were pretty vague on what those VR things were though, went right into a Call of Duty demo.

This is pretty spot on analysis of a good but weird conference

I really wonder if Days Gone is going in some roguelike-esque route, where you can be overwhelmed and killed. Unless that whole "you're surrounded by zombies" thing at the end was just a dramatic feint. Because otherwise it just seems unbelievably straightforward.

Typical of what I've seen outside this bizarrely whiny GB reaction.

@patrickklepek
Sony’s lineup is killer. Microsoft’s isn’t bad, but it’s not this. You can see why they want to pivot. Tonight’s event was spectacular.
