Visiting a gay club over a dozen times over the span of 3 years, being active on 3 gay dating apps and having 1on1 sessions with transsexual camgirls doesn't indicate that he could have been gay?

That's a whole lot of research if he did it just to scout out locations, victims etc.

As I said, I didn't know all of this information, I was just facepalming after seeing the "well he's a bodybuilder" line of conversation.

WTF!!! This guy on MSNBC said that while the shooter was holding hostages in the bathroom, he said that he let the black attendees out, saying, "I don't have a problem with black people." But he kept everyone in.

He also speculated that the shooter may have been looking for a particular individual while he was on the gay-dating app.

Man, this story just keep getting more and more complicated....

Source on the 3 gay dating apps and the camgirls?

Yeah i was watching CNN and the survivor was saying the guy was saying please turn off the ringer on your phone, or don't text, and slide the phone under if it was ringing.

Said he had no problem with black people and brought up the South Carolina church shooting. (not sure what was mentioned about the church shooting just that the shooter mentioned it to the guys in the washroom).

I am not sure if that is true, I remember a black woman saying he son had been texting her from inside a bathroom and as far as we know he killed everyone in there. Also people who know him said he wanted to kill black people before.

Possibly, word coming in that someone claimed he'd been coming to the club in the attack for three years, plus word he'd been on gay dating websites.

If true, it's possible the motive might have been entirely based on his own conflicted feelings towards his sexuality.

Perhaps if he did call up 911 to pledge allegiance to Isis he simply did so to throw investigators off his real motive.

could have been both

anyways, such a sad outcome for all. religious indoctrination and homophoby can lead to incidents like this.

Previous page.

EDIT: oops, thought you were asking for a source on the three year thing.

Ty Smith and Chris Callen recalled the eventual killer being escorted drunk from the Pulse bar on multiple occasions, including one incident where he pointed a knife at a friend.

Both professed shock at seeing his face on TV: "It's the same guy," said Callen, who performs under the name Kristina McLaughlin. "He's been going to this bar for at least three years."

The same person (D'Angelo Scott, performer at Pulse who had just left) interviewed said that his friend (who played dead in the bathroom) heard the call to 911 swearing allegiance to ISIS. After, he made a 2nd call to describe his situation to someone over the phone, akin to scouting out police positions.

so speculation wise:
this guy was in the closet but has a super ultra-conservative Father who is a religious nutter and lashed out on 100 people instead of facing his father

Or he could've been gaining info through the people he met on the apps to scout out different locations.

This is strange because earlier there was a report that he hated black, gay, women, and Jewish people.

Yeah. One of the shooter's coworkers said that the shooter allegedly told him, "I hate Ns" (referring to black people).

Lots of conflicting stories already....

He allowed blacks to leave the bathroom: "I don't have a problem with the blacks"

Per MSNBC interview

Which could explain all the Latin names I saw of the victims. At first I thought this specific club was located in a Hispanic neighbourhood? This gets weirder and weirder.

I wonder how the right will spin this. They'll probably call him a gay Muslim terrorist now.

Also, I don't know if the thread exists, but I think it might be important to make a new thread to discuss the updating nature of the news; this thread's getting a bit big.

It was latin night. (plus it's Florida.)

News have said that night was a latin theme night. So of course the majority was going to be latins

Oh I've tried this in the last thread. I honestly thought you were trolling me with your incompetence.

You mean this

Yes, you are doing exactly the same thing ad hominem personal attacks and literally nothing to offer .

Now exactly the same thing. Not a single insight to break my argument but ad hominem attack to kill the conversation .

Please break the argument . Where did I made factual errors

Huh? We know that he was on Jack'd. No idea he was on more apps and was into trans camgirls.

There's a Reddit user who claims to be a camgirl who had a 1on1 session with the shooter. Could be bogus of course but I'm inclined to believe her as she posted it yesterday way before the first speculation of him being gay came to light

The multiple apps thing was apparently said on MSNBC

I think people are forgetting he was not mentally stable. He hates people one minute then doesn't because he isn't stable.
It's much more likely that the person talking is full of shit, given how they seem to be providing all these bizarre anecdotes that don't line up with his past behavior.

Speaking of, wasn't the guy who got killed while texting his mom in the bathroom black? Doesn't add up.

If he was a homophobe, why was he hanging out at gay bars for all these years (according to witnesses)? That doesn't really make sense to me. Also, there haven't been any earlier indications of him hating gays (other than from his father, which most have dismissed as false).

My theory is that he was a kinda-sorta out bisexual (or possibly gay man) among certain people, but not around his family. And something may have set him off. One except from an article someone posted really stood out to me:

In separate interviews, both Callen and Smith described one incident that unnerved them.

They said they decided to keep their distance from Mateen after he exploded in anger at a joke told by one of their friends, possibly about religion: "He ended up pulling a knife," Callen said.

Maybe he was trying to have both his religion AND his life (sexuality) but jokes about his religion (and how it doesn't accept gay people) may have set him off.

I'd say that he was just casing places, but witnesses say that he'd been living this kind of life for years. That's a really long casing operation for a lone wolf.

Just speculating. Could be completely wrong though.

EDIT: Then again, I don't know how I'd work in the stuff about him being self-radicalized and ending up on an FBI watch list. After all, he was a suspected terrorist....that committed terrorism.

People are trying to imply the shooter was gay. Except the "homophobia is always gay peoples fault" bullcrap is really inappropriate in this situation.

That's not at all what people are saying.

Straight people are ultimately to blame for gay people becoming self-hating. If he really was gay, he became self-hating because the culture of homophobia created over thousands of years by straight people made him that way.

We can recognize he might have been gay and self-hating, without absolving the root cause of it all.

I haven't followed this one super closely. Is there any evidence to indicate that the shooter was gay?

Wow what a racist scum

Cross posting this because I think it should really give pause to anyone who doesn't see a problem with gun pervasiveness and culture in the US.

From the Upshot:
In the United States, the death rate from gun homicides is about 31 per million people — the equivalent of 27 people shot dead every day of the year.
In Poland and England, only about one out of every million people die in gun homicides each year — about as often as an American dies in an agricultural accident or falling from a ladder. In Japan, where gun homicides are even rarer, the likelihood of dying this way is about the same as an American’s chance of being killed by lightning — roughly one in 10 million.
Last year’s Paris attacks killed 130 people, which is nearly as many as die from gun homicides in all of France in a typical year. But even if France had a mass shooting as deadly as the Paris attacks every month, its annual rate of gun homicide death would be lower than that in the United States.

Another mass shooting, and another case of mental gymnastics to ignore the fact that we need stricter gun control laws. Nah, let's just bomb the Middle East some more, that'll solve this problem.

Meanwhile, there was two more mass shootings today. However, since the victims were black, and they both occurred in the inner-city, the news isn't going to cover it.

Welp.

A former classmate of Omar Mateen’s 2006 police academy class said he believed Mateen was gay, saying Mateen once asked him out.

Officials say Mateen shot and killed 49 people and injured 53 others at an Orlando nightclub early Sunday morning.

The classmate said that he, Mateen and other classmates would hang out, sometimes going to gay nightclubs, after classes at the Indian River Community College police academy. He said Mateen asked him out romantically.

“We went to a few gay bars with him, and I was not out at the time, so I declined his offer,” the former classmate said. He asked that his name not be used.

He believed Mateen was gay, but not open about it. Mateen was awkward, and for a while the classmate and the rest in the group of friends felt sorry for him.

“He just wanted to fit in and no one liked him,” he said. “He was always socially awkward.”

In Orlando, the Los Angeles Times reported that Mateen attended the Pulse nightclub possibly as many as a dozen times before the rampage. Kevin West said he had messaged Mateen back and forth over a year’s time on the gay dating app Jack’d but never met him until he saw Mateen crossing the street about 1 a.m. Sunday.

“He walked directly past me. I said, ‘Hey,’ and he turned and said, ‘Hey,’” and nodded his head, West said. “I could tell by the eyes.”

At least four regular customers of Pulse, the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender nightclub where the massacre took place, told the Orlando Sentinel on Monday that they believed they had seen Mateen there before.

“Sometimes he would go over in the corner and sit and drink by himself, and other times he would get so drunk he was loud and belligerent,” said Ty Smith, who also uses the name Aries.

He saw Mateen at the club at least a dozen times, he told the Sentinel. “We didn’t really talk to him a lot, but I remember him saying things about his dad at times,” Smith said. “He told us he had a wife and child.”

The Canadian Press reported Monday that Mateen had been seen there over three years.

Chris Callen recalled the eventual killer being escorted drunk from the Pulse bar on multiple occasions, including one incident where he pointed a knife at a friend. Said Callen, who performs under the name Kristina McLaughlin, “He’s been going to this bar for at least three years.”

BUT THEN:

Mateen’s father emphatically told The Post Monday that his son was not gay.

“If he was gay, why would he do something like this?” Seddique Mateen asked.

You're assuming he did it because they were gay though? Maybe he just chose that place because he knew it well(if he had been there) and knew it would be fairly easy to kill a bunch of people.

Did those "mass shootings" result in 50 fatalities? Meanwhile a ton of the victims here were Latino.

Weird angle to take.

I think that's the only logical conclusion one could come to, given what we know and everything that transpired.
