Breath of the Wild is the official subtitle for Zelda U/NX, first gameplay trailer

I wonder if this will show up at EGX for us UK people!

Starfox Zero was there last year so I am praying this is too, would absolutely love to play it.

Yes this is exactly what I feel. I just want to discover all by myself after seeing all the possibilities of this game.
But on the other hand I'm way too curious, so I just don't know if I'm capable of going on media blackout...
Trust me, I know the feeling. Ever since I discovered the internet I willingly lap up every morsel of information I can find on the game I want. I think the last game I remember being surprised about was Super Smash Bros, Melee. I used to go on those "cheat" sites where they tell you how to unlock stuff, and at the time I had no idea who Marth and Roy and all were, so I was pretty surprised when I unlocked them. After that, I haven't really been surprised about anything. But man, I need to do it for this game. That thing on Death Mountain? That floating island in the sky? That meteor? I feel like I wouldn't forgive myself if I let myself read about what was behind those things on a forum.

LOL!!! So awesome. "Get out of here head!"

I hate to have to pull the media blackout card, but I am not going to look at anything that shows stuff that couldn't be found in this E3 demo. I WILL watch a NX version of that demo though.

Please make it easy for me, Nintendo! lol

I typed a long paragraph about the blackout, then, I accidentally pressed refresh... To summarize my thoughts, I had past experience in Skyward Sword that I was not spoiled about the Timeshift Stones, and the particular moment of using it was glorious and unforgettable. While SS, being a linear experience, can provided me with a surprising moment, I cannot believe how much BotW can offer. Although I am not a patient person and the wait will surely be like hell, I still decide to commit to a blackout as I want to find out the cool stuff all by myself.

The same here... I need to know everything I can on anything I care about at the moment, whether it is a game, a console, a smartphone... At the moment it's cool to read about those new stuff but at the end with the game in the hands it feel more like a curse, to already know everything ! The worst is when watching a gaming journalist or youtuber or else saying false or inaccurate informations :" C'mon we know that already!"

But yeah I didn't feel the need to preserve myself for being spoiled for a game for a very long time !

Just gotta say man the balls on Nintendo. Only they can get away with showing 1(!) game on the first day of e3 and everyone be like ok damn alright that was good.

Nintendo: We'll only show Zelda on day 1 of the e3

Everyone : WTF??? NINTENDOOOMED! ONLY ONE GAME?? HAHAH

E3 Day 1

Nintendo : Here's Zelda! Enjoy the Demo!

Everyone : WOW! ITS ZELDA OPEN WORLD! AMAZING! BRAVO NINTENDO! WILL BUY NX!

i don't think having these UI elements are necessary at all and they can be distracting.

There are more "natural" ways to give feedback about this different status, if not Nintendo has put them in already, and with some experimentation the user can get used to it.

Or at the least give more control over the UI display. Many games do this already.

I wouldn't say that about the 2D games though.
They've definitely become quite stale and samey.

if youre only going by asthetics. those games get better and more creative with every iteration. plus Luigi U is one of the best platformers in years.

that being said i woudnt mind seeing a change up. mario maker shook things up but id really like to see a had drawn 2d mario game.

so Ganon is the smoke monster from Lost and you have to hide when you hear him coming?

Only from an extremely superficial point. The NSMB games, NSMBWii and NSMBU especially, have brought tons of new ideas and refinement to the 2D games. The only thing that is objectively stale is the music. The gameplay and level design are top of the game.
I do think both art style and music are very bland and in need of a revamp. But I don't know, it's more than that.

Like, back in the day SMB3 was the top, the pinnacle of platforming. But these days the recent Donkey Kong Country games have been terrific and I've enjoyed them much more than any of the NSMB games. They just seem so much more creative gameplay-wise. So I just wish they could make the 2D games something really special again, instead of being merely 'pretty good, technically proficient' platform games.

Anyway, to try to get back on topic... Does anyone think that the title could have anything to do with Calamity Ganon? Breath of the Wild... And Ganon is a wild, monstrous cloud or breath in this game.

Is swimming stamina dependent?

This would basically make it similar to Wind Waker in it's limitations and closer to the N64's Zelda types, instead of the less restrictive implementations found in Twilight Princess or Skywayrd Sword.

Interesting that it hasn't been critisized or comment more at the least. Limiting underwater exploration now that the game has open up in so many more aspects is a bit contradictory.

Some other small things i' ve seen:

* Big fires create and upward draft of hot wind that can be used to gain elevation with the glider. This is known.

* There's actually some limited control options over Wolf Link. By Z targeting him, you can instruct him to follow or stay in it's cuarrent position. This useful since enemies are actually aware of his prescense and the palyer might be trying to use stealth.

* When climbing, the stamina is drained depending of how steep the surface is. The bigger the angle inclination the more stamina it drains.

* Tapping X while in water swims faster but also drains more stamina.

* i think enemies can hit each other like in the Wind Waker but im not 100% sure.

* Enemies are also aware of wild life and can chase some animals. Yet i havent seen a case of an animal attacking either Link or the enemies.

* Sadly, you can't create platforms in water with ice arrows, like in majora.

* Some chest can be open up by force or striking them.

* Is posible to completely burn consumables.

* Having Link in trousers, his skin gets a red hue when in extreme cold, but he doesn't get a tan when under the sun.

I think it would be premature to criticize or comment on this since it's likely that your ability to swim and dive will open up more later in the game, as it does in many other Zelda titles.

There will most likely be items or other ways to stay under water for longer periods of time. Maybe later on in the game or after certain events. There's no way this 2% demo reflects everything in the game.

Yeah, in past games it was always that you couldn't really go underwater much until you got an item. Come on brehs

Nintendo had the advantage that this e3 was very mediocre. No surprise announcements, many cinematic games and "shovelware" VR experiences.

The new Zelda was outstanding in almost every way.

Can't really agree. There were plenty of surprises and existing IP's that saw changes like God of War and Resident Evil. There were super stunning visuals, plenty of new game announcements that were either great or at least interesting, and so on. Microsoft announced a beast of a new console. It was definitely not an E3 where an "underwhelming" Zelda showing like Skyward Sword would have still came out on top.

They were not at an advantage. They just made an incredible looking game.

Actually, you are the ones jumping the gun with my comment. XD

In 3D Zelda games, save for the Wind Waker, Link could actually swim freely above the water surface without any problems. Underwater exploration was indeed tyed to a later accuired item.

Floating in the water been tied to an stamina bar is indeed restrictive. Assuming of course the information provided by brad t was correct.

Ugh the Steppe Talus music is so good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPgtJKZS0cM#t=2m57s

Also, anyone know if there is a prolonged Guardian battle somewhere on the internet?

Why is that only incompetent people ever seem to play game demos? They always seem so incredibly confused as to what to do in the game or how it works. Like I don't know how many videos I've seen of people trying to shoot arrows when the counter clearly shows they have none, or the fact that they don't get after wasting all their arrows that they have to compensate for the arrow dropping, or running around with a torch as a weapon and never using their shield or Z-targeting. It's bizarre. I know they're in a crowd and there is a lot going on but damn.

does anyone have the link to the image of the controls (either on the gamepad or in the booth)? not just a list of controls, I know them, I need the image to see exactly what it says

Both fighting themes I've heard are fantastic. I really dig the whimsical piano, and (I assume) violin and horns?

dun dun DUN, dun dun dun DUN

Unless, you know

they just create a scuba tunic like they usually do

The most likely situation is that they want to prevent you from breaking the game with infinite swimming early on, like Wind Waker.

Yep, you always got upgrades so you could fully explore underwater like the blue tunic, zora armor, silver/gold scales, iron boots, zora mask .etc. It was something that was unavailable to you until you've gotten a good bit into the game. I think WW was the only recent zelda that didn't really have underwater exploration at all

Game of the Forever obv, some *updated* thoughts after extensively watching the demo

══ Most trees are the same size, this weirds me out a bit because it makes it seem like a well-maintained park. If it's gonna be a wild forest, there should be a smooth variation from young to old trees spread around the forest. And if there was more variation on types of trees within individual forests, that'd help a lot too.

══ If flurry rush didn't have slow motion and instead just had the WW chime and let you mash it out, I would like it more. As it is now, it's seems too rewarding (and jarring).

══ Link can shoot several slow motion arrows in one jump. Also I did not see anyone try, but can you do a regular jump on flat ground and get the slow motion for the arrow? As it is, the slow motion drains stamina quickly, but I'd like to see the amount of arrows you can fire in one jump reduced to just one, and to definitely not be possible from flat ground, it should require some respectable height.

══ Right analog has X and Y axis, would like to see them both used for quick select to group weapons/shields of the same type instead of this X axis which is going to get loooooooong.

══ Magnesis/stasis/cryosis rune detective mode is overdoing it, should be toned WAY down.

══ Runes in general have very unsubtle effects design, which I don't think is at all necessary.

══ Is the magic meter truly gone? they didn't show the HUD in the off-plateau videos...

══ Wondering if there'll be fishing poles, and if they'll count as weapons or have their own slot in L items or if you'll even be able to customize what you have in the L menu... the tutorial text says that L is for "Use item", not "magic runes" or "sheikah powers" and Dpad up says "swap special item" so I fully expect the game to have items beyond the runes. But boomerangs I want as standard weapons - whack enemies like an idiot or throw it for huge damage and then having to CATCH it with A? Nintendo MAKE MY DREAM TRUE

══ Dpad down is the whistling. People playing accidentally whistle all the time while switching their gear. Gotta call up your horse somehow, and that's it.

══ Re; Skyloft looking thing - Skyloft, probably. Not that strange or surprising, many Zelda games have sky temples. What IS surprising is that it moves around. Hopefully Link will get a flying mount late in the game and Skyloft is where you also find the green tunic.

══ Game Over screen asks if you want to load your last autosave. This has me thinking that the game will have more than three save slots, and may just let you save into any slot whenever you want.
99 slots the dream

══ They obviously HAVE a system for partner characters with Wolf Link. If Link could hire or otherwise get different companions, that'd be REALLY cool. Like if he had a Boar Charm and could make a boar tag along.

══ One special item I could see happening but probably won't is something like the mind control from Wind Waker, but usable on all enemies and animals.

══ Hylia statue glows, but stops when Link gets near hhhhnnnngh what item will I neeeeeeeeeed this gaaaaaaame

══ All this cooking. Part time work at restaurant in town sidequest, I can feel it.

══ Random item wishlist:
-Pegasus boots for dashing like a madman.
-Fancy clothes from sidequests.
-Zora armor set for swimming and diving indefinitely let's GO
-Climbing gloves/shoes to climb faster with.
-A magical hovershield has to be in the game, it just has to.
-Lantern.
-Hookshots (of differing lengths and speed) as "bow" items.
-Masks are fun. Forty masks.
-Ball+chain weapon type.
-Bug net.

══ Wishes for Hero Mode
-No item or tutorial popups.
-No increase in enemy damage or health (ok maybe health BUT NOT TOO MUCH).
-Don't change item durability.
-Increased damage taken should come from making enemies more aggressive and tactics-minded. Bokoblins as example; in the demo they're slow to react (often having Link in their face they would just wait for him to strike them) and like to use their jump attack too much. Them dodging when noticing your windup, flanking and only using the jump attack when Link is vulnerable would make them more challenging in an interesting way.
-Double day/night cycle length to 48 minutes.
-Having to hold food items and eat them in real time (cooked food being faster to eat to further incentivize cooking) to make players consider their approach to enemy encounters more strongly.
-No slow motion arrows.
-Really, just remove as many "training wheels" as possible instead of just upping damage. Hero mode until now has only been hard at the beginning, make it a full-stack difficulty increase and break the Zelda conventions, Aonuma!

══ My only NX wish
-Always have the closest shrine loaded in memory so we don't get the loading times when entering/exiting

You know how some of the Bokoblin camps have a small tower with a lookout on top?

I can't believe no one tried using an axe on one of the legs to see if it crumbles down.

The platforms are made of wood. I want to know if I can burn them.

I also want to know how thorough the hunting of animals thing is, eg can you kill the goats in the reveal trailer? What about the horses? Not that I'd go around doing either, but I want to know if the mechanics allow it.

I get the feeling they're indestructible. Pretty sure multiple demos showed bombs going off near them to no affect. Don't see how an axe or fire would be any different. But I would love to be wrong.
