Stellaris |OT| Imperium Universalis

I had never heard of this book before, thanks. Just picked up the Audiobook.
It's very good, possibly better than the Culture series, though he only made one book before he died...

Right, Vorta are finished (well, may add more clothes, hair etc. down the line): http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=701049794

So i had the unbinded invade the galaxy, actually spawn right next to my empire but they were easily defeated with my 3 20k fleets.

is that it now for end game events for my game now?

Terrans are probably going to be an end game crisis option from dangerous transporter research, so will need to get to them eventually.

Kind of tempted to do Gorn next. Or finish up Bynars.

Bynars are the shit. That episode with them is one of the few tng season 1 episodes I can tolerate. I love races like theirs in sci-fi.
Wish they'd use them more often.

EDIT:

Wrath of Khaaaaaaan era uniforms are done: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=702498826

White for leader, governors and admirals. Dark green for generals. Blue/grey for scientists. Civilians use civilian clothes.

I actually have the assets for Operations (orange) and Medical (light green) but need to work out how to make them work for scientists with appropriate traits.

EDIT 2:

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=702611865

Productive weekend so far! Vorta, Voth, Klingon, Breen, First Contact Uniforms, Wrath of Khan Uniforms and Enterprise Uniforms...

EDIT 3: I figured out how to make it so that leaders of the same type can get different uniform choices dependent on their traits. This was important for the Wrath of Khan uniforms where they use half a dozen divisions instead of Red/Gold/Blue. Now, scientists without the Biology trait use science division blue/grey undershirts, while scientists with the biology trait use medical division light green undershirts. Pretty neat, I thought.

I think others can happen. They are apparently best if left alone for abit.

They are getting some changes to buff them depending on tech in the galaxy and fleet powers etc.

Created a race and I have to say setting the adjective to Glorious was a great choice, especially for an empire. It gives me a chuckle when the reports mention my Glorious science ship or my Glorious fleet or the Glorious science explorations we have achieved.

I'm looking forward to Bradbury.

The use of Transport ships to carry slaves and surplus food & minerals, not just soldiers. Warehouse buildings on planets, and cargo modules on space stations, for storage of surpluses. The use of Galactic stock exchanges to enable you to trade strategic resources and energy credits. The ability to abandon a Colony with no violence, you up and go and they revert to Colonisable again (I hate those 8/9 tile worlds you get in wars)

Ok, it's not real ... but I can dream

I have a question about fallen empires, about how to fight one. Basically, a fallen empire got mad, declared war and send a million fleets swarming through my systems. Pretty overwhelming but makes sense that they're supposed to be "oh shit" the first time you meet them in combat. However, back to my question about how to actually fight back. Because what happens is that the dozen fleets swarming my systems while destroying everything, just teleport away from my fleet everytime I try to engange. And since they're jump tech is completely insane compared to mine, what happens is that they basicaly have free reign to do whatever the hell they want. Destroy everything until they run into a fleet, then blink away.

So yeah, how the hell are you supposed to win in a fight if it's pretty much impossible to catch their fleets?

You can add 'subspace snares' to battleships and stations, which greatly inhibits the ability of enemy fleets to escape:
  • Subspace Snare: Enemy ships in the area of effect suffer 400% longer Jump Charge Time, -50% sublight speed, and Emergency FTL Cooldown is increased by 100%.
    • On stations, the Subspace Snare forces incoming enemy ships to arrive directly on top of the station. Military stations with this module will have a small magnet symbol on their Military Station icon both on the solar system and galaxy maps.

So I updated the First Contact star trek uniforms mod from prior page. The rank pips now align with the leader's skill level.

Skill 1 = Lieutenant pips
Skill 2 = Lt. Commander
Skill 3 = Commander
Skill 4 = Captain
Skill 5 = Admiral

Figured out how to make uniforms change over time, too... So going to make a version that has them progress from Enterprise to TOS to TMP to TNG etc. in line with the show's timeline.

I'm not using the mod but that is cool as shit, well done! :)

There are a tonne of cool effects you can use for pops and clothing. You can tell that Paradox were looking into this - there are commented out blocks in the asset files that define different clothes for pops who are working mines, farms, energy etc... really going to be fun getting stuck into this.

That said, it's going to get messy... Our Trek mod is going to need 2 genders x 5 ranks x 6 Trek eras x ~50 species worth of defines.

Plus a bunch more for species clothing before they join the Federation...

And that's only if we make it so that only the Federation enforces a uniform. Getting Humans or Bolians etc. into Klingon or Bajoran or Cardassian uniforms is going to be a massive undertaking. Requiring *constant* vigilance </Weyoun>.

Amazing work. Have a cookie. No, have 2!

When you create a sector, do you still have to send around your construction guys to go around building everything for them? I just won 5 planets in a war, ceded to me in my victory demands but I destroyed all of their mining and electrical things. Do I need to rebuild them is what I'm saying? Also with colonising new planets, if I colonise a new one and create a sector based on that new planet will they then do everything for me?

Or really is what I should be doing creating a sector out of my old planets which are all running well?

sectors build a construction ship of their own when they have the resources to do so.

I used to sporadically go around deleting them since once every resource is exploited the constructor is just sitting there wasting a miniscule amount of my energy credits, but my practicality overrode my OCD.

So I got this game yesterday after my troubles with HoI IV which are mostly technical at this point. This game runs way better on my iMac and I am also enjoying it way more. The combination of 4X and the usual Paradox trappings is surprisingly fun.

Wow, I didn't quite know just how drastic the balance changes would be on this patch. Almost all the government types have been completely gutted and most of the ethos have had some form of new quality added to them.

Taking a break of Hearts of Iron: IV (great game, loving it, HoI is my favourite PDX series) to try out the Asimov beta and it's really such an improvement, they did a really good job on this update so far, lots of things many of us wanted and I'm glad to see the slavery system properly implemented now too. I also feel that the "Stop Atrocity" war goal should also include the terror bombing policy (I think it's called that, not sure), which some empires would use to do more damage when bombarding a planet.

That is one huge ass update.

Yep and there are quite a few things missing from the changelog (will probably be included when it's fully released) such as Core Planets being changed now to Core Systems. This means that you can actually directly control more colonised planets than previously, so say 1 system has 3 colonisable planets, they all count as "1" to the limit because it's the system itself that counts if at least one planet in it is colonised.

So I recently got this game and absolutely got sucked in. It was my first Paradox game and I love it.

Two questions -

What other games will I like from them? Will I like the new Hearts of Iron game?
Does anyone else get slowdown with larger fleets? I have a pretty good rig but my game can stutter, and also stutters on every save (ironman mode)

Get Europa Universalis 4 and the DLC.

Then go to Crusader Kings 2 and the DLC.

Then Hearts of Iron 4.

Nevermind, I'm a dullard.

Right click Stellaris in your library --> Properties --> Go to 4th tab that pops up, Betas --> drop-down box will appear, select "1.2.0_beta". You should be opted into the beta patch build and the patch should appear in your DL queue.

ninja edit - sorry breh

Asimov sounds really good. Warlike empires will get some big boosts if I'm interpreting it right, gaining some options to kinda... force a federation, in a sense, through conquest.

Dominion, ho!
