Yes. It means confidence in the currency. If it's a remain vote, it'll also boost confidence in the financial markets and mean billions of pounds on the FTSE that's been down 800 points on it's high of around 7000 since last year.

Well yes and no. There doesn't have to be a referendum. However there is no "EU" in a sense that it's some external organization that can just change the treaties. EU is basically a multilateral agreement between sovereign nations, which can only be changed if all the nations agree to change it.
There are private polls paid for by by multiple hedge funds. They have info we don't. Only way to see it is sterling and FTSE futures.

The markets think Remain will win based on the data they've accumulated. They could be wrong but they are acting based on a remain vote.
