Steam Summer Sale 2016 |OT| It's better than nothing

I haven't really seen it mentioned here (although I could have missed it) but

The Elder Scrolls Online is $20.

The game is great and there are no longer any monthly charges. Hundreds of hours of content available and more is being added all the time as paid DLC (the Dark Brotherhood / Gold Coast DLC just dropped last month). I highly recommend it, its a very solo-friendly MMO.

unrelated but: how has been the traffic on people using/downloading enhanced steam? Bigger than the last sales?

Seconded. I play this solo on PS4 and love it.

I forgot all about Banner Saga 2 existing let alone releasing and already being released. Talk about flying under the radar. Damn lol.

I'm new to PC gaming and I'm considering:
SOMA
Firewatch
Alien: Isolation

Thoughts?

All of them are topnotch from what I've heard and played.

SOMA - Thinking of picking this one up to, seems cool but I've heard they did some unnecessary jumpscares but aside from that it's a really atmospheric story driven game. If I'm wrong here I hope someone corrects me.

Firewatch - A great adventure game wwith one of the better stories I've played. About a guy trying to run away from his life by being a firewatch in wyoming.
It's mostly about the relationship he and his boss develops over the course of the game while talking with eachother on walkie-talkie.

Alien: Isolation - do you like the old Alien movies? Do you want a nostalgic throwback horror game with some of the most atmospheric sound and visual design I've seen in gaming? well this game is for you.
I think the game is totally fine to play even without having any prior experience of alien though it feinetly adds to the game if you like Alien movies.

What's the deal with Kentucky Route Zero?
I want to buy it, but posters are complaining that is has taken over 8 months to get to chapter four (if it ever releases) and the developers don't reply on the forums.
I don't want to buy an unfinished game.

Is Hyper Light Drifter worth it? On the fence right now... pretty confident I would like it a lot though.

It's one of my GOTY contenders for sure, I absolutely loved it. I was a KS backer though.

herd great things about ransformers devastation..anyone already tried it and can tell me if it's more bayonetta or more korra?

I... actually can't compare to it either, as I haven't played them, but as a G1 Transformers fan I adored the game. It's very brawlery, kind of like a well-done 3D arcade game.

One more to add to the list of 'oh I've been meaning to get this for a while.....oh it's already in my library'

Lol, yeah, after a point it is impossible to keep track of what you own. I am still not sure if mistakenly double bought the DLC for Dying Light, or if the naming conventions for the base game are insane (contains the words "the following", but does not include the dlc "the following"? seems to be correct, because my "the following edition" of the base game now is downloading 5gb of dlc after buying "the following")

Any chance there's a Total War buff who could give me a quick rundown of considerations I should keep in mind if I'm in doubt between these two Total War games?

Total War: Rome II vs Total War Attilla

My bet is that it will get finished, but you are correct on the scheduling. It isn't finished at the moment, and I've definitely lost some of the story nuance because I just can't remember where the story left off like 5 months ago.

There are 3 of 5 chapters out so far and are all somewhat self contained. Chapter 4 is coming soon but it'll be another year until chapter 5, most likely. That game is pure David Lynch surrealist art of the highest order. It's a game that I think kind of benefits from the long gaps between episodes.

Been two years since episode 3, so maybe a bit too long of a gap. But they are close to having episode 4 done and I cannot wait to play it.

Some laptop / integrated graphics friendly game ideas would be welcome.

Stardew Valley OK?

I'm literally the opposite of a PC gaming expert but I'd imagine SDV would work, if you like platformers Shovel Knight is fantastic as well.

AFAIK they've been making that game since ~2013. Its been on my radar for years at this point but I'm waiting until the entire thing is done.

It's not as narrative driven as other episodic adventure games so a long ass wait for chap 4 isn't a great reason to skip out on such an incredible game.

Very abstract presentation. Reminds me of David Lynch stuff. So good.

SOMA is essential. It's perhaps one of the bleakest stories told in a video game, told mostly through it's wonderful atmosphere and environmental design. Lots of good philosophical ideas to really dig into too.

I guess over 8 months is a nice way of saying 2 years and 2 months.

I should probably add that I still recommend it. Even with the time it's taken what's come out so far is amazing.

Was not expecting to see gta5 for almost half off. If my online character from ps4 can be transfered to pc, I just might hope on that. It'll be nice to play that in 60 frames and better graphics.

unrelated but: how has been the traffic on people using/downloading enhanced steam? Bigger than the last sales?

Way bigger, and much bigger than anticipated. PC Gamer put up an article about the Steam sale and linked to the Chrome store page (thankfully not the main domain) so that's brought in a huge influx of new users as well.

So far there have been almost two times the number of people hitting the API servers than the new years sale, and nearly 3 times as many people as last year's summer sale.

The servers still haven't totally stabilized but I think in a few more hours most of the heavy load will die down and they'll be able to consistently handle the traffic.

Went through the discovery queues and saw dead by daylight. I like survival horror and games like L4D. Seems like a pretty safe bet for me but I heard it was light on content. Any opinions?

So I tried to buy some games but for some reason Steam's servers momentarily bugged or something and it told me I hadn't been charged for those games and I should contact support.

I have an email from PayPal saying that I ha e sent Steam money, however. But I haven't received the games.

Anyone know what is going on?

oh that ESO is tempting, I actually wanted to play it the other day. I liked the open beta before launch

Elder Scrolls: Online is a fantastic game. It's the only MMO that I've ever been able to get into and it's still got a huge player base. I'd fully recommend getting it. As others have said, it's a very friendly solo experience. I've bought the game on both consoles and just recently bought it on PC but I've never played with anyone or even joined a group before. To me it honestly feels like "Skyrim: Online" more than an MMO.

Disappointing that they are doing such a lame price cut on Shadow Complex Remastered btw. I was excited to add this to my Steam collection, but 33% off and 10 euro is not right for an old game that most of us own on xbox.

Which is the better RPG fallout 4 or witcher 3? Have a GTX1080 arriving at the weekend and want to take it for a spin.

Already bought Rise of the tomb raider and Doom.

Posters whine a lot.

it's true there's a long time between episodes, but it doesn't seem in any way in danger of being abandoned or anything.

Man what a softball question. :P

Fallout 4 is a bad RPG and Witcher 3 is a great RPG.

Is Disgaea still good if you beat the game 12 years ago?
yes, disgaea is a gift to our earth. play it, and then buy another copy to give to a friend.
Hero Prinny* says yes, at the very least. He enjoyed the game like every other one.

*he has Prinny in his name, auto bias.
