DOOM – Update #1 Coming June 30

"Vulkan support won't make it on release, but will be available very very shortly after release"

Uh, hello?

Once again, a whole lot of lies when it comes to new APIs.

Maybe even the demo a month ago was fake? It makes no sense to have fully functional demo and then not even release the code after more than a month when they said "we only need to fix a glitch when fps go above 200".

Apologizes for the poor image quality, that's just how they uploaded it.

Why is it that such a simple thing makes me want to play through it again for the 3rd time? ughhhh lol

Man, they just poured the love into this game, didn't they? I thought about the gun centering thing because Giant Bomb was playing Quake recently, but never thought they'd bother adding the adjustment. Hope it sold well.

PC Update is out, booted it up quick to see if it fixed my dev-mode & missing collectable issue only to find that it has deleted my save all together. They really fucked up the PC version bad some how.

So far I've only been able to enable the photo mode after specifically choosing a mission rather than continuing my in-progress Nightmare campaign. And even when I got it working, the thing wouldn't let me move the camera around. I saw a message about camera controls being disabled when something is happening but I wasn't in the middle of an animation or anything!

Yooo. This made the game fully playable without crosshairs and it feels AWESOME. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ASfF7XSjMSU
Plus, the rocket launcher now looks remarkably phallic and that's also awesome.

I like the sensation of aiming guns "by feel" much more than aligning a cursor. FPS guns should have stayed in the center, where they belong (Quake 2 was a mistake, it's nothing but strogg).

I can't figure out how to enable photo mode.

I couldn't find it until I manually selected a mission with one of my existing saves. Even when I found the option under Settings > Game, the feature didn't work properly (it wouldn't ever let me change the camera angle).

As someone who just purchased DOOM, is center gun mode an actual good way to play the game, or should I stick to original gun placement?

As someone who's mind has been trained to use the right-hand side of the screen as a static point of reference, I'd say stick with vanilla.

I don't normally get motion sickness in FPS games, but looking at DOOM with classic gun placement gives me motion sickness since the right-hand side isn't static anymore.

It seems to remove the crosshair, in the original DOOM 1994 there was a lot of aim assist to help you shoot without a crosshair. I have no idea how DOOM 2016 handles no crosshair.

It's a cool idea but I thought playing like that looked and played quite awkwardly compared to the standard.

i beat the game on UV without crosshairs on my first run. Felt amazing.

Neat! I haven't even considered doing that with modern weapon placement.

Thanks for the answers everyone! I'll stick to vanilla for first playthrough I think.
It's worth checking out the classic mode if you feel nostalgic for the way aiming felt in Doom and Quake. The combat doesn't depend on headshots and centered guns are enough to help you aim more precise weapons with crosshairs disabled.
I'd play the first level both ways and stick with the one that feels more comfortable.

Y'know what...

A CHALLENGE.

Classic weapon view.

No crosshair.

Nightmare.

Classic control scheme like Doom93's default. No mouse. Tank Control movement.

Good luck.

Pulling out the Super Shotgun with Classic Weapon Placement for the first time just made me grin from ear to ear. It looks so bad ass and it feels so right.

This is the first time I've truly been excited for a photo mode.

I love this game so much. No other game could pull this off and be this awesome.

This game man, this game. Centring the weapons? My god, only way that could get better is if they add an option to turn Y axis aiming off.

They also fixed the IDKFA trophy it seems. So when I load up my save file with all mods achieved, it should pop instantly? Hoping that's the case. I stopped playing because I wanted to platinum the beast.
