Re-Posting from the Steam Sale gems thread:

Looking for recommendations for games with deep gameplay with high skill caps?

I love character actions games like DMC and Bayo, Cave SHMUPs like Deathsmiles, Crimzon Clover, Mushihimesama, and have an obsession with Resident Evil and Mercenaries modes.

The only games I have enjoyed this year have been Doom and Dark Souls 3, and generally dislike games like The Witcher 3.

Any good games on sale with these considerations in mind? So far I grabbed the Ys games and Deathsmiles.
Maybe not deep enough for you but Hyper Light Drifter or Meat Boy or Ori?

Metro Redux 2033 (already have Last Light in my backlog), Dragon's Dogma, Divinity 2 Developer's Cut and Breached.

Less than other years, but it's something :)

*shrug*

It's way better now, but some people still experience hitches

Kinda... Its playable and looks nice, just don't expect smooth frame rate because it isn't happening.

They patched it well enough that when it was all said and done months later they still gave everyone an option for a refund anyway.

Yikes. :( Guess I won't risk it then.

Man I've come away from this sale with nothing in the end. The two I did buy (Dark Souls 2 and Subnautica) ended up getting refunded. Other things I might be interested in still have issues or problems I'm finding out about or just aren't low enough in price. Others I had gotten already in a past sale.

If you have 16gb of RAM and the right graphics card, you could brute force it. I've seen people say they get smooth performance indoors and outdoors, but ymmv. I'd say it's worth a shot if you really wanted to play the game, it's just the hitting, even when infrequent, is really jarring and unnecessary. Refund it if it runs too poorly for you.

It keeps adding up, which I did not want ...
Life is Strange complete was the first one for sure!
Next I had to stack up on Alien Isolation, Layers of Fear and the Outlast DLC in preparation for that RE7 hype.
Also Age of Mythology finally for a decent discount.

Be aware that these big retail games that debuted on the Xbox 360 5 or more years ago could have trouble running on Windows 10 without some fiddling.

Do your research.

Volgarr the Viking.

Oxenfree can run on a toaster right? Just found out it was on PS4 as well and debating which platform to get it on...

If the system requirements are anything to go by, it'll need to be a decent toaster. But I don't know for certain! Might be best to go PS4 just to be safe, unless someone else knows for certain!

Thanks for the feedback on Kingdoms of Amalur.

I think I'm going to bite. I don't have ANY big games going at the moment, so this would probably work. Cheers!

yeah i guess I can wait out a sale although I probably could run it. I prefer buying games on PS4 anyway.

Also, anyone that's played Hard West wanna comment on if they think it's worth 10 bucks?

Are there any really good open RPGs with a large world to explore, that can be played with a controller?

I've only ever really been a Bethesda RPG player, looking for any games in the sale that allow me to go off and explore, and generally, be an asshole to everyone in a similar vein.

It's a straight PS3 port kinda like Dark Souls. However people have modded it so you can have it running at a higher resolution than 720p. I don't think anyone made a 60 fps mod yet, so it's 30 fps still.

That's really disappointing then. I won't get it if 60fps hasn't been brought up to GameCube standards. I thought it was.

Well I assume you've played Skyrim and The Witcher 3. There's really not a lot of games that are as meaty as these in terms of exploration.

Dragon's Dogma would be a good place to start.

I'll let Karak answer that
My review for ACG https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPaeGYLBqyI
Rated it a Buy

Absolutely fantastic mix of gameplay styles that I wasn't expecting and a character builders dream. Lots of ways you could go about things with the card system.

Love how simple the gameplay is. Its so pick up and play at first and then if you want to do the more advanced stuff you can if you don't don't. It just works.

I played a number of the missions with 2 totally different builds and hot damn it was awesome. Lots of upcoming stuff it sounds like as well.

This is literally the first time the words "Gamecube" and "standards" have been paired in this way.

Congratulations.

Well, the GameCube version ran at 60fps and had a black outline look to it. I tried playing the PS3 version when it came out and I couldn't because it ran at 30fps. It felt horrible to play.

I know. I'm just messing with you.

Where's my Baten Kaitos and Baten Kaitos 2?

It's included from what I've seen it won't be needed.

And if you already own BioShock, BioShock 2, and/or Minerva’s Den on Steam, you will be able to upgrade to the remastered version of the respective title(s) for free after release

it will be remastered, but if you don't have the original DLC you wont get it.
i think it will be standalone expansion, becasue the way they are saying it,it looks it's gona be standalone game.

Minerva’s Den is not like Bioshock 2,it's another hero.
