Street Fighter V Cinematic Story Mode - Spoiler Thread

That's not the way it works. Unless you're an indie you probably don't have the story made by the team that handles the DLC characters.

I think the biggest irony in all of the Story Mode discussion is that probably 100% of the people who said "bu but single player content is for l0s3rs, online is the only thing that matters, stay free scrubs" played thru Story Mode. ;)

I don't think a single person has ever said that to any degree.

can't have a SFV thread without the sniping back and forth.

People like different things. Deal with it and keep it moving

The only main thing that I hated was the loading. reminded me of Naruto ninja storm 3 ( or was it 2 ? ) loading.

its very annoying. every small battle or small video there is a black screen and loading..

Before story mode:

"Capcom are idiots for just making online and versus content! SF5 is a shitty game with the bare minimum of content, nothing to do for a single player and it's not worth your money."

After story mode:

"Capcom are idiots for making a story mode that noone wants! SF5 is a shitty game with resources wasted on single player content when they could make more characters and improve the online and it's not worth your money."

And also this gem:

"Screw story mode, I want an arcade mode."

Let me guess, two days after arcade mode releases:

"Arcade mode is a useless waste of resources, I don't want to fight ten braindead AI to see some shitty Bengus artwork."

Seriously, if I were Capcom (and the company didn't pretty much hinge on this game surviving), I'd say a big "fuck you all" to all these "fans" and then revoke all licenses for this, USF4, SF3O and any other Capcom fighter released, and never make another fighting game again.

Arcade mode is what we always wanted... who cares about Story mode, talk about not knowing your audience. Arcade mode with characters ending, I'm thinking Capcom didn't understand story mode was arcade mode?

As a Casual SFV player... I know my friends and I always wanted a story mode, arcade mode and bunch of middle fight mods like destroy the car/barrels/etc in the game. We were hoping for something closer to MK9, but we got something like that was a bit below MKX. I wonder didn't most of you guys wanted World Tour mode from SFA3 for this game? This is what made SF fun for the casual.

I know some hardcore gamers here don't like story mode (it wasn't the best story) ever but it was decent (7/10).

This is what attract casual gamers to SFV. :)

PS: I think everyone wants arcade mode. It was a mistake to remove it just because Pro-Tour folks don't use it as much as casuals do.

To compare the frustration of the unlocking system in SFIV in comparison to SFV. Is like someone comparing between walking 20 miles and driving 20 miles.

You said, "All past Street Fighter games in history had colors available. In this you have to go through a shit mode just to unlock a color."

Sorry, but that just wasn't true. I think some people forget that unlocking colors was tied to Time Trials and Survival Mode in vanilla SFIV. They got rid of those in Super and changed the unlock method to something less tedious. I hope they do the same for SFV in the future.

What people want is quick no loading action. Don't care about the story, but I care about reliving the arcade experience...

In this regard, MK got this right: A Cinematic Story Mode (like this), and an Arcade Ladder mode which is an arcade-style climb up the ladder versus a random series of AI opponents. Shitty opening and endings CGs or drawings for this are unnecessary, people just want a quick way to battle AI with difficulty toggles, which is all the traditional Arcade story mode ever was.

This cinematic story mode more than fulfils the story needs (and to be honest makes all those 'character stories' irrelevant) - we just need an Arcade Ladder mode now, which theoretically should be quite easy for Capcom to make. All they really need to build is a UI for between matches.

I enjoyed story mode. No other Street Fighter has had a story mode this detailed. It was definitely cringe at times, but overall I enjoyed it. I also get the impression that that as new seasons arrive we might be getting more story arcs, and that is great. There's a lot of lose ends IMO. If in season 2 we get a continuation it will be even better.
I wish there was an option to watch the whole story like a movie with no fights.

This story mode is good. The story and writing may be ridiculous, but it does a lot to establish the personalities of the characters and the relationships between them. My partner plays videogames and will watch me play a great deal of them but sfv is one that turns her off immediately. When I was playing the story yesterday, she was able to muster some interest thanks to the characters speaking to each other and showing the relations between each other and the stages.

I even benefited from this characterization. I had really a very vague idea of what Laura or Fang's personality would be like before this. Or Juri. Or Urien. This story mode makes the characters more accessible to non-competitive players and I do think that's worthwhile.

Consider someone who is never going to play online but cosplays. Or writes fanfic. We should be just as inviting to those kind of community members even tho they'll never get good at the game. They are not "casuals" but are looking for a world and characters to invest in. Story mode as it stands is not a bad offering to these kind of non-fighter fans.

I'd like to offer CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM for the story mode: The 1 round encounters feel brief and detached. If the encounters could have been multi round or otherwise cut up with mini-cut scenes or bits of dialogue, the gameplay would feel more dynamic and integrated with the story.

this is bullshit.

Look at any thread before SFV was announced and one of the often requested features was a story mode. MK has pretty much made such modes standard.

Now yeah Arcade mode should totally be in too. Not going to deny that at all. But stop acting like story mode wasn't heavily requested

...

Is this a serious post? Have you ever been in an actual arcade? Were you the one who bitched at other people when they dared to put in a quarter next to you?

Just finished it today. Here are my thoughts and questions.

1. The russian lady needs to be made into a fighter. She was awesome. I didn't like her ending ult though, keep her with the long hair and hat.

2. Who was the half blue half red guy at the end?

3. Story mode was for the most part enjoyable but I wish certain characters had more fun moments like Dhalsim.

4. Some of the end fights with Bison were very frustrating.

5. Urien was very fun to play as.

I think I missed something. who is Helen really is ? she was talking to GOD or whatever his name is from SF3 and all the sudden her image shifted and he called her a name. what was the name ? Helen ? or he called her something else ? ( talking about Russian lady )

I'll answer question 2 first because it affects the answer to 1.

2.That is Gill. Older Brother of Urien and the villain/boss in SF3: 3rd Strike

1. That russian lady is Gill's assistant in that game. So probably not a fighter, but you never know.

3.I agree with you. Dhalsim laying some truth bombs is always fun.

4.I hear dat!

The lady is named Kolin and she's Gill's assistant (Gill, not GOD). She was apparently pretending to be Helen or something.

The guy at the end was Gill, the leader of the Illuminati and the main antagonist of Street Fighter 3. Helen is actually his secretary Kolin in disguise, and her design at the end is her original from 3.

It just dawned on me that if we ever get an arcade mode it will be full of server connection loading time bullshit just like story mode :(

The individual character cutscenes woulda been cool as individual arcade modes. the idea of having an arcade mode where you have multiple rival fights and cutscenes throughout would be cool and novel. SF4 would have been cool if that was an option. (Getting the cutscenes from both vanilla and super interspersed, and all rival fights including when you're the rival, so ryu would get 6 rival fights or something, spread throughout his fighters) It'd have felt cool (obviously with an option to disable the rivals and play a regular 10 ladder if you want)

Ih right he used to say kneel before your god or something like that in SF3 lol. Thanks mate

I actually ripped the model right when the story patch went up... my posts just tend to become invisible next to Garrett's. He's fully modeled, fully rigged... I expect modders will be swapping him onto Urien's skeleton soon.

Can you post some pics?

Well that was silly.

I had fun, because it's Street Fighter, and I've loved these characters for 25 years, but the story was weak.
When I heard it was 3-4 hours I thought great, they should be able to tell a comprehensive fleshed out story, but no.
The entire premise is ridiculous. So some random 'hackers' built some huge floating 'moons' that are going to destroy several cities, and these moons are activated by 6 cheese pieces, which are then mailed out to people like Laura and Alex for no discernible reason!?
Alex seemed to have no idea what that piece was or why he had it, and had no qualms juts handing it over to Dhalsim (who he thought was a mugger!? Lulz) without questioning what it is or why he wants it? Utter madness.

I mean I know, it's Street Fighter, you have to suspend your disbelief heavily while watching teleporting yogis and zombie army guys, but that just felt like poor writing, to have a random excuse to have all these fighters change each other all over the world.

I just wish it had a slightly more serious tone - I always felt that the SF2 animated movie got the balance perfect, something more similar to that would've been great.

On the plus side the music was brilliant, loved the track that plays in Helen's hideout.
And some of the voice acting was good, Rashid is very charismatic I'm glad he had a lot of screen time, I love his animations.

From what I can tell, someone (probably Rashid's friend, or possibly Abel?) stole the pieces from Shadaloo and sent them to various fighters for safe-keeping (since Shadaloo deals with everything through one-on-one battles). Although in hindsight, maybe they should have enclosed some instructions.

Are my costume settings supposed to be represented in the general story? My settings seem to work for the character stories but not the general.

Yeah I wanted to know about this too because they showed acreencaps with alternate costumes prior to launch of this dlc.

If you're talking about Karin and Ibuki, that was likely a last minute change. Their dresses are more appropriate for the setting than their default costumes.

I didnt like this story mode at all. Capcom was so lazy that they couldn't polish the hair physics and the clipping in a mode that is basically a visual experience.

Some of the hair was straight up funny, especially when it was supposed to be windy.

Not sure why you would have Rashid look down all the time when the clipping of his beard is so distracting.

Let's be honest here.

Like every other Story Mode in fighting games, except maybe Tobal and Soul Edge, I'm playing to watch the story daaaaa because the fighting between story is so fucking boring.

Please put the story in a Movie mode and let me have fun with online play.

Story: 9/10
Play inside the story: 6/10

Maybe I missed that part, but yeah, if it was someone sending them off for safe-keeping, a little note saying something along the lines of 'this little ornament is one of the six keys needed to activate WMDs, don't let it fall into the wrong hands' might've been a good idea.

I somehow missed Helen becoming Kolin and Gill being revealed. I remember Bison being killed, credits, then Ryu and Ken fight, then back to menu. Did I miss something?

The Kolin and Gill stuff happened during the credits. You probably skipped them.

Yeah, it's the worst written game I've seen in a long time. For as much as I've defended SFV in the past I feel this is the thing people should be upset about because it's utterly abhorrent with no redeeming features outside of a few new special moves.

FUCK :'( I ordered the Season Pass and put it on my brother's PSN account because we usually buy all the stuff on his, and now I have none of the characters on my account. I didn't realize this would happen.
