That isnt a very small area. Probably like in the top 50 of US cities.
Damn, 400k is small/rural to you? My hometown had 1000 people. 150k is the biggest city in my entire state, and is my current city, no complaints as far as Pokemon or locations from me.

So how's everyone's experience going with the game for those of you who live in pretty small towns and rural areas? I honestly expected my area of 400,000 to be underrepresented in a game like this, but was pleasantly surprised by the variety and breadth of Pokéstops and gyms.
97-100th largest actually. But no, I wasn't calling my area small.
I worded that kind of poorly. It's not that 400K is small or rural to me, it's that with services or apps like this, you expect only the REALLY big metros to get any proper support, you know? I've lived here most of my life so I'm pretty used to getting passed over cause it's not a "major" area. 400,000 is definitely not small to me, but it's small enough that having this app function like it should feels pretty special.

Wait what do pokestops do? It says I need a pokestop module?
Reposting because it got trapped at the bottomWait what do pokestops do? It says I need a pokestop module?
Uhh..where are you getting your population numbers from
I was genuinely curious about actual rural or small areas, since it seems like there's gotta be a general population cut-off point where if your city is below this size, you don't really get any landmarks in the app.
Thanks"Spin" the coin-like picture when you pull the stop up. It will spit out items and stuff.
Thanks
Is someone in europe playing again? It shows just the loading screen for me. Germany
What a messy launch.

Damn. You win the most rural Pokemon hunter award I've seen in here so far. No gyms for you?I live in a town of 600 people
Haha, I was just going to make this point, it's really hard to tell anything from listed pop numbers. I live in a suburb of a city with about 175k, and about 45 minutes away from a city with around 400,000. But the dense metro area the two serve is over 6 mil.To be fair, population means nothing. Seattle has 680000 people living in it, but there's almost 5 million people in its metropolitan area. Phoenix has like 1.5 million people. Way bigger than Seattle right? Except it's land area is 5 times what Seattle's is, it has about the same amount of people in its metro area (which is twice the size of Seattle's metro), and it's population density is half of what Seattle's is. You can just look at population, you have to look at density and the population of the metropolitan area. /rant
Ah that's better then.To be fair, it's not really launched, the Aus/NZ availability is more a soft launch presumably to smooth out stuff like this when it actually launches Worldwide.
Likewise but I'm starting to notice which Pokémon are common and which are uncommon.Google account still down for me too.
I was in Flint, MI earlier walking around and there were plenty of spots to hit up and Pokémon popping out.
I get what you're saying, but they have like half a decade of Ingress user data collected by Google to pull from. Only the smallest of suburbs aren't going to be represented here.I worded that kind of poorly. The biggest problem with this game is that there is no way to know which direction the Pokemon you may be looking for is hiding.
I don't even think incense even works.
Likewise but I'm starting to notice which Pokémon are common and which are uncommon.
Caterpea, pidgey, ratatta, nidoran, drowsee, zubat, sparrow, Shelder, magikarp, bellsprout, eevee, and weedle.
90% of the Pokemon I saw today we're either drowsee and or pidgey.
The biggest problem with this game is that there is no way to know which direction the Pokemon you may be looking for is hiding. I'm assuming if you click on it, it will only show you rustling grass belonging to it. (Maybe, I dunno)

Im giving this game a feel more days until I call it quits. The game needs more things worked out.
Maybe the Pokemon change if you go up north while in Michigan XD.

Is there a list of compatible devices? My S2 doesn't seem to be able to get it![]()

I might be able to help here. Someone correct me if I'm wrong since there isn't a whole lot of info out yet. You ever see those grass movements on your map? I think that is one of the Pokemon in your tracker in the bottom right corner. You can narrow that down by picking one from that selector, and then the grass movements will only be for that Pokemon... I think.
Incense worked for me last night, server issues are probably interfering now though.
Can't you tell by looking at the rustling grass, and then moving towards it?
You were in Flint too?![]()
Incense worked for me today. It spawned a pokemon at my feet once every 3-5 minutes.

At this point is obvious that they are working with the servers. Already at level 6, but i am going to wait for the official release.I'm logged back in but the pokeball in the top left just keeps spinning and it won't show any pokemon nearby.
Lots of weird bugs happening now actually.
It's just that I lived in very populated towns/suburbs my whole life (only moved a month ago) so it's still growing on me! I live in Littleton, North Carolina if anyone is wondering![]()
it's so tiny <3According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.0 square mile (2.6 km2)
I'm guessing that's why they're waiting for the main release. It's like how you practice on CPUs before going to a tournament to work out the kinks.I'm logged back in but the pokeball in the top left just keeps spinning and it won't show any pokemon nearby.

Got it working but it's not accepting the nickname I put in.![]()

Get one because (assuming there are a decent amount of places around you in biking distance anyway) it will also improve your quality of life a lot. making you a more capable pokemon trainer is just a bonusThe prospects of this game are almost making me consider dropping some cash on a new bike to ride around and find catches.
