So they are interviewing his brother, definitly NOT the shooter. Guy gave his gun to the police after the shooting started.

people do this in open carry states. that in and of itself doesn't imply he's ready to dump rounds into law enforcement officers.

regardless, it's looking pretty likely he wasn't doing the shooting anyway. I think he'll be dismissed as a POI later tonight. People assumed he may have been involved because he's memorable. For all the obvious reasons.

Yeah, I am in GA. But I don't see people walking down the street with assault rifles. That is just insane to me.

Well, that confirms it wasn't him.

And I really, really hope he doesn't get killed because of this

People today laugh at how people got hysterical over witches and such hundreds of years ago. Yet this stuff right here is the same thing.

The media and regular people are doing it. Just disgusting.

POI's brother is on CBS right now

He says his brother gave his gun to the police immediately when the shooting started and went home.

If I was that guy I'd head to a news station with a lawyer to protect my ass from vigilantes who will probably not get this updated information. Holy shit this is bad.

My office mates don't follow the news at all. They just learned about Hilary and her personal email account yesterday.

I work in a retirement home old people only watch the news. Not to mention I work with mostly white people. That's not a problem, but I'm really not trying to hear any shitty opinions or get asked about anything.

Dallas PD better have not just posted whatever they got from reddit or 4chan for this dude :/ that twitter video makes it look like he is not involved at all

They literally put it on their Twitter and put the picture up during the press conference. That's why the distinction between a person of interest and suspect is important.

He became a person of interest because people in the crowd mentioned him. They might have seen a dude in camo with a gun after things started and told that to the cops.

CNN is being extremely sloppy and careless with their reporting right now.

The picture is being circulated on all of the news channels though (via the Dallas Police Dept)

To be fair the Dallas PD said it was a suspect and then said oh he's just a POI.

Well, that confirms it wasn't him.

Just to be absolutely clear to everyone, this is exactly why we're asking people to share information responsibly.

Nobody is going to get banned for linking a tweet in which the official police account releases a picture of a POI, whether or not there proves to be some issue with that original report. People may get banned for posting links to reddit threads, or pictures without context, or claiming a POI is a suspect because you're just repeating things second hand instead of providing original sources.

Be responsible and share information that can be traced back to its source.

Hey guess what, black guy with a long rifle gets AUTOMATICALLY ASSUMED to be the shooter by bunch of people.

Fuck this shit FOREVER

I mean...it isn't a huge leap? He's walking around with a gun. If he was white, he'd probably be a person of interest too in this case.

Update - Reports of shots fired at El Centro College involving SWAT officers that are in negotiation with the suspect.

The police received the POI picture from people on the internet. Ugh stupid ass 4chan and reddit getting this guy in trouble and trolling the police.

As a native of DFW, its really disgusting the amount of stereotyping most people here are spewing about the city. It is home to various liberal colleges SMU, UTD, etc. People acting like seeing someone with a gun in public is would be viewed as normal are the same idiots who think all Texans go to work on horseback and a cowboy hat.

Yeah, I am in GA. But I don't see people walking down the street with assault rifles. That is just insane to me.

yea I'm in FL. I don't see it either, as it's a concealed carry state only (last I checked). Now when I was back home in Ohio, I'm pretty sure I saw someone walking around with a rifle at least once.

Fucking CNN, fuck off Don Lemon.

it was inevitable that don would draw this reaction sooner or later. switch to MSNBC.

He's a POI because he's open carrying a long rifle in the middle of the street in broad daylight. Eye witness testimony is shaky as all hell to begin with and when you're running while bullets are actively being shot the first thing you are going to notice is a guy with a gun.
