Dallas PD better have not just posted whatever they got from reddit or 4chan for this dude :/ that twitter video makes it look like he is not involved at all

At this point it's possible. I don't even want to go to work tomorrow because I know everyone will be talking about this and I really don't want to deal with that shit.

My office mates don't follow the news at all. They just learned about Hilary and her personal email account yesterday.

Just walking down the street with an assault rifle. Nope, nothing to see here.

Well there have been plenty of instances of the 2nd amendment nuts doing the exact same thing to "flex" their rights. Too bad this guy looks like he went there with ill intentions. Will be interesting to see how he obtained that weapon and when.

Police Chief:

--Potential bomb planted
--1 suspect cornered
--More than 2 shooters suspected

God.

I hope they can get the info on the bomb and other shooters out of that suspect. Terrifying to think what a bomb would do in a crowded area

The police and people here are calling him a person of interest and to call if you have any information on him. Whether he is the killer or not doesn't matter. The police want info on him so I don't know why you would ban people if it turns out he isn't the killer.

Because if he's not, we're putting his life in danger by bandying about his photo, particularly since the first posters identified him as the shooter. The police put out the photo so locals could call with information. Most of the people here are not local, and posting the photo does nothing but endanger someone to feed the curiosity of people who treat this like a game, where they have to rush to the forum to post something.

If anyone would like to discuss this point further, feel free to PM a moderator.

Well, the entire country also has pretty strict cocaine laws and that doesn't seem to stop it from entering in mass quantities. I suspect a strict nationwide gun law wouldn't be much different.

I don't know how to fix all these problems. I don't think anyone does.

I didnt know people could get addicted to guns.

I really doubt this guy is a shooter; no extra ammo as far as we can see, walking with the crowd. It makes it unlikely that he would get into position before the shooting starts, or even less likely after.

I don't know, just sounds to me like if anyone had carefully planned this and were more than one, they would prepare more stealthily.

Also clearly no body armor.

Sorry for the bad screenshots

Hey guess what, black guy with a long rifle gets AUTOMATICALLY ASSUMED to be the shooter by bunch of people.

Fuck this shit FOREVER

That's the problem with open carry. He's a POI just because he's walking with a gun. Open carry is a joke. Shouldn't be allowed in cities at all

This person being posted, as far as we know right now, is simply a person of interest -- as far as we know, simply because he is a black man following the laws of the state and open carrying.

You guys are basically spinning this so fast that it makes him look like a suspect.

Mind the context: he has been named a person of interest likely BECAUSE he is a black man open carrying and these shootings just happened. And everyone is just repeatedly reporting him as a suspect before there's any actual evidence.

Blame Don Lemon.

He's getting his language mixed up and using "Person of Interest" and "Suspect" interchangeably.

They talking to that dude's older brother on CBS right now. He says little brother gave his gun to an officer and went home.

Wearing camouflage and openly carrying a gun. I wouldn't be surprised if he actually turns out to be a counter-protester.

Fine. Considering slavery was once legal and anyone of color couldn't share a batnroom/restaurant counter/bus seat anywhere near a white person, yes, your statement was asinine.

Right. If I were thinking about Slavery and Jim Crow and think of things on the surface level without looking past that, I would think that too. In fact, I did think that. For many years. "Things are better now than they've really ever have been!"

However, when you disenfranchise an entire race economically, destabilize them, destroy their neighborhoods, make sure they're under educated and under employed, use things like "drug wars" to continue criminalizing them, build an entire economy around their new enslavement (prison industrial complex), and imprison and or kill them at higher rates than white folks for the same crimes?

Nah. Just because the game has changed doesn't make things any better, so I guess we'll have to agree to disagree, friend.

Open carry is legal.

And since it sounds like that dude was not involved in any way, I really hope he will not be killed tonight.

So is he a suspect because he's a black man with a gun in an open carry state or is there more?

he had a bigass gun

people noticed his bigass gun

shots got fired

people remember, "hey I saw a guy with a bigass gun earlier!"

someone remembers they took a picture of him and they go find a cop to report it and gave them the picture.

I'd assume that's how it went down. the cops are just chasing down every lead they have. he'll be removed as a POI I'd expect.

The person of interest handed his gun to police when the shootings started, according to his brother on Dallas CBS.

How irresponsible of the police and news.
