"What country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance. Let them take arms."
- Thomas Jefferson, letter to James Madison, December 20, 1787

Seeing that twitter footage made me sick, and shed a tear. I've been hard on police these last few years especially. No one deserves this. All of this lately is not the america we should live in. Change now.

yeah, i think the cop had defensive position facing a different shooter and the guy who comes into frame towards the end there shot the cop in the back... he couldn't have expected that... so disgusting...

There's another video showing that gun fight. The shooter changes his movement very quickly to throw the cop off and flanks him on the side. It is one of the reasons people think the shooter or shooters had military training.

That's what I'm seeing.

Really? You think they are evil geniuses that play 9th dimension chess like that? They're just a band of killers that exploit soft targets.

Maybe they saw Invasion U.S.A..
My money is on white Fundies, though, because of the 'end is near' line.
But seriously I just want DPD to let us know who these assholes are.

I have a webm of the footage. Is posting it here allowed?

I'm not an NPC. And neither are we.
Actual ISIS would have more likely just lit up the protest itself since they go for mass casualties. And it it were some ISIS-inspired homegrowns why are they targetting only police?

It seems more likely that it's specifically an anti-police thing, which is why most of the speculation is that it's either militia movement or radicals who want to lash out after the shootings earlier this week. But it seems so well planned that it's hard to think it's spontaneous and not something that latched onto the protest to use it as cover.

Seeing the way DPD has been good at retraining their force in recent years, it wouldnt surprise me if this attack was because of that. Want to halt progress? Cripple the most progressive ones.

I also wonder what NRA will say... since their usual stand is 'If the victims had guns they won't be dead'... because now the victims had guns.

They aren't going to say shit. All the guns in the world don't matter if you get ambushed. Congratulations, you had a gun in your possession when you died.

Has El Centro College been confirmed to have been empty before the shooter entered? Or are there a whole heap of people in there with him?

This really doesnt seem like an ISIS style attack since they tend to go after targets that cannot defend themselves. This seems like a calculated maybe retaliatory attack. Either way it is a pretty disgusting act. Pretty angered by this more than any of the recent news. I swear this just reminds me of the garbage I see on liveleak of people going to war with the brazillian government.

The NRA's usual response to mass shootings is; "If only [insert_dead_victims_here] had guns to defend themselves, this could have been avoided." Now the victims (aka Police) had guns, so they can't say that anymore.

They could go with the narrative of: The killer had better, stronger weapons than the armed police

Was not empty, but the shooter was in the garage for the college, and not the college itself (I believe). The college is now empty.

Guys sorry just seeing this are these black men that are doing the shooting? Is this supposed to be some type of payback for the officer involved video shootings the past couple of days?

Nothing on identity or motivation from any sources. Please don't post things like this "I heard this and that". If you have sources, post them.

It automatically locked down, and some people were stuck in place. The local news said they'd just been let out.

This is a great question, but I expect them to push something along the lines greater police militarization. Something like, "if the cops had been armed with M16s, they could've put the shooter down for good with superior range and stopping power!" Type of shit rather than any discernable logic.

But it would still have been legal if it had been loaded, right?

I think it's legal as long as a bullet isn't actually in the chamber, but I could be wrong.

What are the odds this was some ISIS sleeper cell thing or just one of these random nutjob independent actors that has sworn allegiance to ISIS who thinks they can sow some civil war in the U.S. or something stupid like that?

The targeting of police officers in general, seems like a more homegrown thing then a foreign terrorist attack.

Whatever the case, various political entity's are going to use this to try and seperate people.

It is all disgusting, and the political fallout will even be more gross.

Anyone who celebrates the loss of those officers as they were protecting the people and their right to protest - you're the problem.

I can't wait to see how they can possibly squirm out of this. Radical Islam and "a good guy with a gun" can't be used as excuses here.

Pretty sure that's not just someone calmly walking along. I see a muzzle flash before the person along wall drops to the floor? That looks like a shooter ... jfc

If so, then it's the same footage that Fox was showing, but from the ground. The guy walking into frame is bizarre.

Someone on CNN with Don Lemon already brought that up. Giving cops more military style equipment sadly seems like something they'd get behind to increase gun sales when the real solution would be to get this crap off the streets so that the only dudes who own an AR-15 have to buy it on the black market not Wal-Mart or a gun show...that would stop most school shooters at least.
