So what is everyone's expectations on Jared Leto's Joker?

I'm probably going to love Leto's Joker, but can it be better than Ledger's? I like Leto's acting more than Ledger's so I guess there's a good chance Leto can beat him. I just hope the movie is good so Leto and Margot aren't wasted in some mediocre bore.

The look is actually perfect to me apart from the teeth and tats. It just seems ridiculous to me that the Joker would sit for the hours required to get tattoos and the one on his forehead screams hot-topic emo kid (I dont think we're still saying that... but whatever).
I think the teeth are great, and Ayer said there is back story there and a reason he has them so I assume Batman knocked his teeth out, which I hope we see in a Batfleck movie flashback

I hope he can make me feel like I'm the one being talked to.

Ledger made me feel like I was the one he is talking to.

I'm having quite big expectations. I think this is likely the hardest role any actor could take now, but I have faith that Leto will deliver a performance that not only feels like a genuine Joker, but also feels distinctly different from Nicholdon and Heath's takes.

I really wouldn't worry. If anything, Leto seems to very much suffer from the opposite problem.

:lol. Was going to say, I think Leto will be fine, Im sure he think he did the most amazing job ever. As to the look, I don't really like it, but whatever, the movie looks like a lot of fun.

I expect the following in terms of live action movie Jokers.

Leto > Ledger > Nicholson.

I feel like Leto is going to have a lot more fun portraying the character. Feels more comic book like rather than Ledger or Nicholson.

I think the people who are suggesting he'll be better than Ledger are thoroughly ridiculous. I'm expecting a solid performance at best, nothing exceptionally memorable.

Not expecting much, prove me wrong leto, prove me wrong.

Remember when bale killed him in American Psycho? He was alright in that film.

it'll be fine, lots of people will love it, stone will hate it, the world will keep on turning. It's what we're getting for a few years regardless so might as well learn to like it.

I think his performance will be good, but not on Ledger's level, and I'm still not feeling aspects of the costuming and makeup. I also am over hearing about how "method" he went. All of those stories range from cringey to outright disgusting.

He's going to be a wild, crazy interpretation of the character that works for some and doesn't work for others. Overall I expect him to not be as memorable overall as Ledger but a worthy complement to that interpretation and a fitting, compelling part of this newly formed DCCU.

I just hope Leto's Joker is funny. That's the thing people sometimes overlook about Ledger's performance - he was fucking hilarious.

"Excuse me, I want to drive."

"I'm like a dog chasing cars. I wouldn't know what to do with one if I caught it! I just do things."

That way he says, "I just DO things," still cracks me up. My buddy and I used to say that the same way all the time, mimicking the hand motions Ledger makes.

Another good one - when Joker crashes the fundraiser, grabs a glass of champagne, tosses out said champagne, then still "drinks" from the empty glass.

Not very impressed at all. Not intimidating in the slightest. The whole movie looks shit TBH.

It doesn't look like shit, but I'm not ot really jiving with the trailers at all. So much incoherent over-the-top destruction that I'm lost when someone says the trailers look great. They have no sense of direction to them,

That is an interesting thing to say since the Ledger and Nicholson versions were way more like the comics than what we've seen so far of Leto.

Early screenings (unfinished cuts) impressions have said he was funny and scary.

Good Acting, a cool character.

....but a character that should not be in that movie and a character that has nothing of clown on it. Just pure psycho

Looks wack as fuck. Leto is a dipshit

My expectations for Leto are low but I'll probably end up liking him because he does seem to have some aspects of the character on point. For as much as I like Ledger and Nicholson, Nicholson is playing an exaggerated version of himself with Joker mannerisms and Ledger is kind of a gangster in face paint. Leto seems to be aiming for a more Joker that's closer to the core.

But goddamn, that tattoo look is god awful.

Same boat.

He's going to be great. But I don't particularly like the look they've created for him.

Jared Leto is a very good actor, so he'll impress.

Leto is a talented dude but I expect him to be completely underwhelming thanks to all of the hype they're trying to build around him.

I find it really weird how some people in this thread are talking about Leto performance "topping" Ledger's, or Ledger's forever "topping" Leto's, like they're talking about a game of Top Trumps or something.

I think he'll be fine but Harley will steal the show in suicide squad. We'll get to see more of individual joker in a Batman movie.

I have complete faith in Leto that he will surpass everyone's expectations.

I am biased, 30 Seconds to Mars is my favorite band of all time.

Leto is a fine actor. My only concern is that the filmmakers end up fundamentally misunderstanding the character like they did with Batman and Superman... and Lex... and Pa Kent... and most of the characters really.
