Ghostbusters |OT| Is it the boobs?

It was enjoyable - my only two takeaways were their should of been references that Ghostusters(original)had saved New York twice before.

Also if you are doing a ghost horror not every ghost has to be CGI, a lot more could of been accomplished with puppets/actors and more pepper ghost effects.

The bit at the very end 'what form do you want me to take', Kevin then says 'ice cream' That is the form it should of taken not some Real Ghostbusters goofiness with the logo.

Angryjoe just destroy the movie lol, I'm waiting for a renting myself, I wasn't ready to put 13$ to see it on theater and this review just seal the deal for me.

I'm not, for one second, convinced he wasn't predisposed to hate on the movie, being a massive fan of the original. Not for misogyny sake, mind you, but this dude clearly did not want to like the movie.

"I'm not sure if this movie was trying to take itself seriously..."

Um, it clearly fucking wasn't.

"Nobody acts like that in real life."

Nobody busts ghosts in real life, either, you douchenozzle.

Like, do some research and at least have a clue about what you're going to see. This is a Paul Feig movie. Start there. Don't go in there with your nostalgia goggles that are permanently tuned to the original and act all offended when it doesn't live up to your goddamn standards.

This is a review?

Stick to video games, Joe.

Is it really bad if I say I actually didn't hate the new theme, as it was presented in the movie?

Obviously it can't hold a candle to the original but I thought it worked well enough with how it was used.

Yeah, my fianceé commented that in the context of the scene its used in it worked rather well.

Isn't Joe a character though? That would be like James reviewing Ghostbusters as the AVGN.

I dunno. I just know there should be a sense of structure and logic applied when forming your opinions on mediums such as films and books.

This is pretty far removed from the original in just about every way save for concept. Style, tone, pacing, and the brand of comedy being applied are all coming from a completely different place, in a completely different era with a director who has successfully formulated his own brand of comedy in his films.

Anyone who wanted something that can touch upon the classic magic of the original is delusion. It was never going to happen. NEVER.

Is it that crazy that a Ghostbusters fan would want the first new film in a couple of decades would want a film with the same style of humor that the series is know for and not something completely different?

I've since edited my comment above to address this...

No. Not at all. But anyone who looks at the landscape of filmmaking and Hollywood should know better. Movies like that simply do not get made in the current climate. It's a freak occurrence when a movie like Mad Max Fury Road comes along; a goddamn miracle.

Any self-respecting fan of the original should be aware of what went into making that movie, and how it was a rare case of "lightning striking" to get it to come together in the way it did. Not even the original cast/writers/director could replicate that in the sequel.

Sometimes you just got to take a classic for what it is: a product of it's time.

If you can't take a look at the elements at play in making this new film and see that it's very clearly going to be a different beast altogether, then not only do you not know jack shit about moviemaking you also have no business going to see it in the first place, because there's only going to be one outcome.

People need to start paying attention to the people behind the movie and understand their stylistic signature and why certain decisions are made, rather than just plunking down cash and derping your way into the cinema with your own movie formulated in your head. Maybe then people wouldn't spaz out like Joe when it doesn't unfold in the way they had envisioned it.

I always go back to that father who was baffled by how bored his 6-year-old was by Batman Begins. It's a fucking Christopher Nolan movie, dude, start there!

I prefer to look at a director's track record and choose my movies based on that. Paul Feig's flicks have entertained me and I know what to expect from a Paul Feig comedy. That was my primary concern when going to see this. I leave the first movie where it belongs.

He said he likes Paul Feig movies, and the talent that the cast normally has. It's just as much a review as all the other shitmyoutubnets do. It's just not printed in the New York Times.

Every single video of his is the same level of garbage. Terrible terrible "reviewer"

The movie is getting better reviews that I thought it would get. I still wont watch it tho.

Angry Joe has never once been worth a second of any adult's time.

Saw it last.

- Great FX.
- A few funny bits early.
- Not very good overall.

I love Kate Mckinnon on SNL but her take her wasn't working for me. She didn't seem weird or smart. She just seemed like she was acting.

I like Hemsworth too but Kevin was awful and unfunny.

The cameos were terrible. Phoned in with zero thought behind them except for Murray's maybe.

Really surprised at the high RT score. I just couldn't find the humor. It also felt really choppy. Don't know what was up with editing. They must have cut out quit a bit of stuff.

The special effects where fantastic though. Almost worth the price of the ticket alone.

The most annoying thing about negative reviews like Joe's are the guys who go "OOOHHH AND NOW EVERYONE'S GONNA DUMP ON ME AND CALL ME SEXIST FOR HATING IT!" like they're some kind of martyr for reinforcing the same opinion 90% of people on the internet had already.

You know how I can tell if a review is negative or positive before even watching the video? By whether or not there's a sizable dislike bar or not. Likes mean negative, dislikes mean positive. You know what that says about people not liking it acting like they've really stood up to people? That they're full of shit. That they wanna have their cake and eat it too, so that they can have the same internet mainstream internet opinion about something and still be a special snowflake for having it.

This isn't to say there aren't any people ever who say you're sexist for bad reasons, but that number pales (fucking pales) in comparison to the folks ready to dogpile anyone who even sorta kinda liked it.

Bottom line is: Don't act like you're a hero for preaching to the choir.

Alright, so my son and I are playing Ghostbusters (I bought him the new proton pack a few weeks ago) right now. He asked who I wanted to be after naming the originals and I said I wanted to be Holtzman. Then he said he wanted to be Erin. I asked if he knew who they all were and he nailed their descriptions and then I said I wanted to be Patty because she was tall and I'm tall. He asked if there can be two Pattys because he wanted to be Patty. But when we decided to chose two characters to be, he chose Erin and Abby.

Love this!

Btw, I totally have a small Buzz Lightyear blaster that I'm full on licking before busting some ghosts as Holtzman.

I hated it.

See Double Toasted for a fair review that falls in line with my own opinion.

But I'd like to make special mention about the horrible editing of this. No moment is really given a chance to breathe. Which is essential for both comedy and fright/tension to work. This film had neither, imho.

And fuck them for cutting what looks to be a cheesy mass possession dance number, as hinted by the credits, that could have given a much needed "wtf" boost in that awful final act.

Casting: Tina Fey should have been the leader of this group. Wiig and McCarthy can stay as the nerds. Drop McKinnon (she was terrible, fans of the role are crazy) and Replace Leslie Jones with Tituss Burgess.

I think the shitstorm that followed the Angry Video Game Nerd's video shows that isn't true.

As someone who has hated every Paul Feig film I've seen and grew up with and love the original films is there a chance I'll like this?

This wasn't even a good Paul Feig film. He's done better and the movie was just ok. Slow start, good middle and really boring ending. I thought the comments about the CG looking rough were just hyperbole, but damn, that was some real rough looking cg towards the end there.

Saw it last night, it was pretty awful. Obvious paid reviews are obvious.

When I say awful, I mean it was pure shit, I would rather Twilight.

Sure. Of course you would, fella.

Good on you for forming an opinion though, keep trying and you might form a good one.

I seriously hated the original movies. I didn't want to see this at all but was drug into it by the fiancé that wanted to see it. I haven't been this wrong on a movie in a long time. It was really good. I'd definitely love to see another one now.

What problems I had with the film were mostly a result of the editing of the film; it's the same problem Paul Feig also had in Spy. The film had some great ideas in updating the classic camp comedy of the original, and mixing in a smidge of Paul Feig's brand of satire and slapstick. But I feels that a lot more of the jokes could have landed if the show just let it play out a bit more. The underwhelming third act also didn't help matters much.

With all that said, I really, really enjoyed this new take. Hope it does well enough for a continuation.

So because someone has a differing opinion to you, they were paid?

No, it's worse than paid. It is was gaming reviews too often also have become, a cultural statement rather than a review about a game or movie. If the frame rate is bad in game it is a part of a review, if the editing does not work in a movie, if plot lines are dropped, that is part of a review. How well a movie was crafted is an important information and how often in any of the reviews did you read anything about it.

To often you read the argument, well it is a fun movie and that is the most important part. No, it is not. If you read a movie review you are interested in movies, this also means technical aspects, narrative aspects, plot and several other things. If you just argue with fun and how important that is, that this social issues was addressed, you missing the point of movie or game review.

Game reviews are already pretty much irrelevant. A guy like angry Joe is way more influential than Kotaku or Eurogamer. If this continues with movies, they will learn the same thing and Youtubers will have more influence over movie critics as anyone who writes for a newspaper or has a TV show.

Your political or social preference is not the most important part of a movie or game review. It can be part of it, as well as if the movie was still fun, even with the technical problems. But if you ignore all of this, just to give everybody your opinion, of course you will stand no chance against the Youtubers, which are way better in this. People want to know if it is a good or bad movie and sorry, this also includes all the boring technical parts, even if you would rather write about your feelings.

I got a chuckle from the Jaws Mayor, but aside from that, this was a fucking terrible movie; just 3D summer blockbuster schlock.

Its another pandering and safe sequel to another yesteryear franchise.

I didn't notice this and thought maybe it was because it wasn't regular 3D as people expect the whole screen in imax.

And when I say "didn't notice", I mean I actively looked for that feature since it sounded like a cool idea.

Did you see it in true IMAX or fake IMAX? It's possible the latter ones use the standard cut of the film instead of the enhanced IMAX one?

I hated it.

You are the only person literally ever that I've seen who wanted that dance sequence in the movie itself

Saw it last night, it was pretty awful. Obvious paid reviews are obvious.

Lol.

I love this conspiracy shit.

Are half of us here who enjoyed it paid Sony shills too.

Also lol Twilight....

It's a good movie, not great. No one can deny it being entertaining, though. If they do, they're hating for the sake of hating. My crowd actually applauded the movie at the end and the whole credits roll was entertaining as well.

What if the "technical problems" weren't problems for those people?

I have a filmmaking background but the editing and CGI issues aren't apparent to me at all. Maybe it's because the humour and fun factor overrides my perception or maybe it's entirely subjective and what's bad cgi and bad editing for one isn't for another.

Watched it today, thought it was good fun. I agree with the people here saying that the finale could have been done better, though.

Your kid's reaction is giving me LIFE. I mean, sure, all us old peeps wanted a nostalgia frolic but the kiddos are eating up this movie and honestly...? Even if I hadn't liked it as much as I'd hoped, I would've been satisfied with the younglings having so much fun.

Also (after reading your other post) he's a little nutty too, because wtf. The
mannequin
was the ONLY part I thought would make some kids terrified of them for life, L O L! Good on him :P

Hey so to my complete and utter shock, the movie was lots of fun

I am tired of the whole epic 3rd act thing though, not all movies need dat

I want a sequel though for sure, let Feig cook

You are the only person literally ever that I've seen who wanted that dance sequence in the movie itself

Count me as two.

Him posing the group was just odd, so when I saw the dance in the credits it made sense and I was surprised at it getting cut. It would have been an enjoyable moment in the slog of that last act.

Just one of the many weird moments I chalk up to poor editing. The movie really was kind of a mess.
