I think my favorite comment I'm seeing the most of is... EVERYONE really wants a sequel? I'm surprised as hell at that. I mean, it makes me super happy, but it wasn't even on my radar! I didn't expect this at ALL.

I really want this movie to do well enough to justify a sequel. There's so much they can do with it.

I had no intentions on seeing this, but my brother and sister-in-law insisted that I go with them and offered to pay for my ticket. My expectations were pretty low after seeing that horrendous trailer, but it's a pretty fun movie. It isn't good and it no way does it live up to the original, but it's worth seeing if you are a fan of the franchise and aren't hating it for stupid reasons.

McKinnon absolutely stole the show. Holtzmann was the best character and even when her jokes fell flat she carried herself in an interesting way. The other three were just there and filled pretty much the same role in the team.

I just walked out of it maybe an hour ago. Look, I'm a simple man. When I watch Ghostbusters, all I want is for the Ecto-1 to sound like the Ecto-1.

I liked it alright. The comedy is hit or miss and the middle is really bloated with gags that don't work or needless exposition, but once they get into ghost hunting it's really fun.

I'm sorry your avatar and this post

Oh, lighten up. Look, the movie it's self was fine. Had some good laughs and character interaction. I honestly can't say if I'd recommend it, but it you're a Ghostbusters fan, you'd probably dig it. That being said, a throw back to the classic siren of the Ecto-1 would have been nice even if they wanted to make it sound different.

So, please, get off of that high horse of yours.

They have a script for the non-reboot cast spinoff already and Wright would want to rewrite. Or do you mean the sequel for this cast?

Meant for this one specifically, but we'll see what they do. He's a good fit for the franchise and I think him directing these actresses would be amazing.

Just got back from seeing the film. Both me and my wife loved it. The audience was having a great time too. The chemistry of the cast really made the movie great. Looking forward to sequels.

But it's such a nice horse

From what I've seen / heard about him in this, that couldn't be further from the truth.

Roeper's review is ridiculous. Not saying he can't like the movie, that's fair game, but I'm not really seeing his extravagant criticisms, and yes Hemsworth was fantastic.

That really is the best of the new covers and I'm glad it got featured in the credits. That Fall Out Boy cover is total garbage though, and I'm glad it was barely in the movie. I feel like it only made it in due to contractual obligations.

I like Walk the Moon's best. They do retro really pleasingly well.

They did use a weird siren, though. The Homeland Security agents even lectured them for using a non-standard one.

I love the classic siren, but using the exact same one would be like using the exact same car. Too much of a coincidence.

I can't wait to convert my car into an Ectomobile with all the money Sony is paying me for my positive reviews of this movie!

It was enjoyable - my only two takeaways were their should of been references that Ghostbusters(original)had saved New York twice before.
It's not a sequel it's a reboot. I don't... know how you could watch this movie and not understand that.

Where do these stairs go?
They go up.

I enjoyed the joke they made about the sirens but I also missed the classic wail, I fucking love the Ecto-1 siren sound. I can "forgive" them because this is its own movie and this Ecto-1 is different so it gets its own siren, HOWEVER, they barely even use the siren and when they do it's super quiet. MAKE IT LOUDER SOUND GUY!

Also, you're probably in luck since
the Ecto-1 gets destroyed at the end meaning the next movie will have an Ecto-3 (E-2 was the bike) and a chance for a better siren.

Wait there's a screen after the credits? Why do movies do this? Ugggh.

Yep,
the four of them are in the lab, a strange contraption with 4-claws slams shut in front of Erin. Holtzman goes "I call it the 'Nut Cracker'" Erin asks, "Oh, because it.. crushes.. ghosts?" Holtzman laughs, "No, it cracks nuts." Meanwhile, Patty is listening intently to an EVP recording, rewinding over and over. She calls the other GBs over, they ask if she's found something. She says yes and asks, "Who's Zuul?" They all look at each other in confusion while an ominous musical cue hits, then cut to black.

Yeah, I get it. But after all the other throwbacks littered through out the movie "mass hysteria," "ain't afraid of no ghosts," "who you gonna call?," even that part
where they are dragging her out of the restaurant had me thinking of "the flowers are still standing!"
, it would have been a nice, even as a little montage or something, when they were building the car. "Hey, what about this siren? Man that sounds ridiculous! Let's use this one instead." *shrug* But I digress.

My thoughts as well. And yeah, the audio mix could have used some work whenever the car was involved.

For all we know there could have been a scene exactly like that and it got cut. Feig said the original version of the movie was 4 hours long and as much as I love the reboot, the reveal of Ecto-1 was a travesty, just rolling up with no fanfare or anything. That's something the original did far better, I love the original reveal of the Ecto-1, even the cartoon's theme song did it better. A scene of Holtzman at the dump rummaging for parts and finding the original siren would have been a great little wink, I eat that shit up.

After seeing the reboot, I think its strong enough to stand on its own. Do both!

Edit: I also would have loved the original siren. The new one is not really memorable at all.

To me the original has some of the most memorable soundtrack of any movies, and I would have liked to see more of it remixed and reused. Specifically missed the music at roughly 51 seconds here in the 1984 trailer. https://youtu.be/vntAEVjPBzQ

That music is so ghostbusters to me. In comparison the reboots soundtrack is just very average blockbuster soundtrack.

Overall I loved the movie though. Little things I would prefer to be different, but overall fun as hell. It reminded me of the original much more than I expected it to.

Having seen it, it's def a Feig movie.

Now, I liked it. And laughed quite a bit but also groaned a lot as well. Mostly at the dur hur Kevin so dumb moments.

The mayor is comically indifferent. Kevin is comically stupid. The villain is.. Man I was really hoping that dude wasn't the real villain.

The pacing was off. The whole film is literally the origin story where as in the original, after busting Slimer the GBs were established and good to go.

Holziman was the only character to really stand out and that's cause she was comically ludicrous. "Warning lights are for dudes."

And then to top it off they beat the baddie by
shooting him in the nuts
.

Over all, tone wise I felt it was more a reboot of The Real Ghostbusters cartoon.

I look forward to the sequel now that the GBs have had their origin story told and can get to the meat.

Oh, man, tell me about it. First you see the hearse, and then the next scene it's all of a sudden the Ecto-1. Like, what? When did you have time to throw that together? Extremely disappointing reveal.

No, he's terrible. A good litmus test seems to be if you buy Kevin and Holtzman then you'll like the film.

Everyone in the movie is a cartoon. There's no Dana Barrett to help ground the goofiness like the original. Even the mayor is a cartoon here. And Hemsworth and McKinnon (two actors I really like) have the cartoon dialed up to the max. To the point they quickly become absurd and not funny.

First FatBaby and now ManGod... I mean I'm sure you're both genuine but it's hilarious, those usernames and those posts.

Yeah, I don't trust anyone with "man" or "boy" in their name.

I have no idea what you're getting at here.

We went and the family had a great time. My 7 year old daughter came out with Abby as her favorite character. She liked that she was "brutal" to Erin before they made up, but that she was also grounded and determined and funny. She also had a big reaction to Holtzmann.

She has watched the first Ghostbusters several times, so she had fun picking out the references, but she also really liked the new movie as its own thing.

I enjoyed it quite a bit. It was a different strain of humor than the originals, but still had me laughing quite a bit (right out the gate, actually, with the manor equipped with a face bidet and anti-Irish fence.).

There were a few spots that seemed like it had some rough editing. i.e. the scene we saw in the trailers where Kevin says that someone needs to form a team to fight the ghosts only to be informed that they already had was missing, which made the later scene where he shows up out of the blue with a homemade costume and Ecto-2 bike seem completely out of the blue and out of place.

Then there was the part where Rowan/Kevin poses the crowd and national guard troops in a Saturday Night Fever pose for no apparent reason, because the dance number was instead used for the ending credits? In the context of the movie itself, it was a weird detail. Then there was Erin and Abby's hair turns white on the way out of the portal for no apparent reason and didn't seem to exist for any reason other than to set up a super weak gag where Kristin Wiig mentions Garfield, which I guess is perhaps some nod to Lorenzo Music voicing Peter in the animated series or Bill Murray voicing Garfield in the movies. Either way, it was just out of place for me.

Hope it does well enough to justify sequels.

Overall, was what I expected. Really lied it. It was a bit too safe sometimes, but is the kind of thing tbat can be expected when dealing with a reboot if a well known franchise.

Liked the cameos and even they squeezed a nod of sorts to Harold Ramis, which was nice.

You just said that you walked out of a perfectly good film because a car horn was not the exact same as the original.

Who exactly is on the high horse again?

There's an old wives' tale
about being so scared your hair turns white.

At least, that's what I assume it was referencing. They did leave it kind of vague.

Paul Feig already said the Blu-ray release would be 15 minutes longer, so maybe some of the more glaring missing bits will be filled-in. Sony probably recently told him that he had to get the movie in under 2 hours, so I bet last minute cuts were made.

I think when he said "walked out" he meant after it was over.

Juat got out seeing this and to put it bluntly I thought it was utter shit. Just my opinion however

Totally fair, dude. It's not a movie that will play well with everyone, especially those who aren't familiar with or are fans of Feig's brand of comedy.

Not all of it worked for me, to be sure. Some of the moments in the beginning felt forced and awkward and the movie didn't really begin to hit it's stride until after their first ghost encounter.

Structure/pacing/editing are the more problematic aspects of the movie.

Maybe I should have rephrased. When I said I walked out, I meant that I walked out of the theater after watching the movie.
