The cameos were dumb. They should've just made them their characters of the past. Would've been so much more interesting, and hilarious.
It also would have made absolutely no sense whatsoever in the context of the movie. None.

This movie wouldn't make sense if it were in the same canon as the the other two, given that they had to prove ghosts exist and stuff. People have short memories, but you'd think they'd probably still at least talk about that one time a giant marshmallow man terrorized the city, or the time the Statue of Liberty started walking.
Secret Life of Pets is more enjoyable if you love animated talking animals and don't mind seeing a re-hashed Toy Story plot, but most of its jokes aren't really amazing and it too suffers from some convenient plot elements.
Ghostbusters is more enjoyable if you're more a fan of comedians riffing off each other, but doesn't work quite as well if you're hoping for quotable lines or humor that's reminiscent of the original GB.
I preferred GB slightly to Life of Pets (C+ to B-), but that was more due to me enjoying the chemistry of the 4 leads even if I didn't laugh out loud once during the film.
I was led to believe there was a cameo every 10 minutes by a certain reviewer. The cameos were a lot better, or at least far less intrusive than I'd been led to believe going by certain reviewers. Like damn, pretty much made a fuss about nothing and I actually liked a few of them.

Out of curiosity are you talking about campea?Same, which had me worried. Other things certain reviewers said had me worried too, and it was straight up bullshit.

Thank you, exactly what I was looking for. I'm very tired of Hollywood this year after Batman v Superman and I'm withholding lots of ticket purchases I'd otherwise make.
Will pass on both.

It is a terrible title, good thing OP didn't pick it.Can't believe you didn't go with THESE WOMEN HAVE NO DICKS.
I offered it up months ago.
Good work otherwise.
It's a cash-in film born of an executive think-tank. I don't feel bad for not liking it.
They weren't as intrusive as I feared they would be, but they were all pretty much unnecessary inclusions IMO.
Feel free to have not enjoyed it but that's not true of this movie.
This was done with a lot of passion from Feig and Kate Dippold.
This wasn't hire some scrub writer and some cheap paint by numbers director.
Like I said you're free to hate it, Feig comedies aren't for everyone but this wasn't some boardroom crafted movie that was handed to some director for hire.
Which incidentally is probably why it's gotten decent reviews.
Can't say I liked a lot of Feig's other movies but I've been a long-time fan of Freeks and Geeks.

Woah, hey, i never said i "hated" it.

Funny you mention that.
Anyone else think Rowan as a villain is sort of... meta? He came across as the kind of guy that would leave poisonous Youtube comments about the movie, for instance. I'm not sure if that was their intention, but even if it were, they're not making fun of everyone against the movie, just the kind of basement dwelling sleazenuggets that were hurling all the insults and whatnot.
Again I'm probably way off on that, but it is a thought I had while watching itI won't lie, I would actually love this if it were the case.

Really hope they go all in on the home release. Especially where Feig said the original cut was over 4 hours. There's just so much that I would like to know about all that lol
Ha! Watched independence day 2 after dinner at a resteraunt and legitimately fell asleep lol.I forcefully tried to put myself to sleep an hour into the movie so that I didn't have to endure another hour of it.
Take that as you will.
MovieGAF and I aren't in tune then.Im sure there were gaffers that said that Crystal Skull was better than Raiders aswell. To each its own I guess
So, brought the mom to this last night. Ghostbusters was literally my first love since 3-6 months old, and it was only fitting that I bring the woman that introduced me to the series to see this relaunch. Plus, she's a huge Melissa McCarthy fan so, it was a given.
To be honest, maybe with the exception of Civil War, this was probably my favorite movie all year. Granted, I'm not really a fan of current SNL, so Im afraid I'm not familiar with too much of these actresses' roles outside of this, but they made GB into their own easily. Just as it was in '84, the chemistry between the four was a big role in the spirit of this movie.
I'm kinda so so in the cameos(I didn't even notice the Egon bust at the beginning, and Dan Akyroyd's was kinda forced. As for Bill Murray, Now you want a role in a Ghostbusters movie! And for Ernie Hudson, I never guessed he would be the uncle. Weaver's was cute, too as were Slimer's and Stay-Puft's return)
Yeah, Jillian was an adorable shit, but unlike you guys and gals. I really, really hated Kevin. I know folks found him humorous, but I thought he was annoying. And the villain was kinda of a wiener overall, but still, for some reason, the plot reminded me of something you'd see in "Real Ghostbusters" or the 2009 video game.
Speaking of, when concerning the end spoiler, does the new game (Ps4/Xbone) lead into this?ZZZZUUUULLLLL!!!
Watching the movie last night, I saw a group of young girls, not much older than I was when the original cartoon/GB2 came out. They all wore GB stuffs, and cheered and danced along with the end theme (The walk the moon one, not that shitty fall out boy version). I dunno - regardless of who has what sex, it made me happy to see these things passed on to a new generation, and more importantly, is accepted and cherished by it.
Along with the NES mini announcement, it's one of those things I wished I had kids of my own to share with. (That's another story all together...)
It is also why it's heartbreaking that GB16 was outdone by that dog movie. I couldn't believe it when I read it this morning....
For those of you on the fence:

Best Buy received the "Mondo poster" steelbooks for Ghostbusters 1 and 2. Each comes with a digital coupon for the new movie. Hopefully, it gets more butts in seats...
Oh, one other complaint about the movie - the fallout boy remix of the theme song blows. Thankfully they use the much superior Walk the moon remix all over the place and only use the fallout boy version once.

My showing had like 10 seats preselected tops the day before when I got my tickets, but was almost full when I sat down. I think there's a huge walk-up crowd for this compared to other films
Of course, that only explains those seat selection screenshots. There's definitely empty theatres out there, I wonder what time slots and locations they are
Theater I went to was completely packed, which really surprised me. I figured the theater would have been empty given what people were saying online. I thought I was going to stroll in and get a good seat, but I wound up having to sit off to the side.
