The cameos were a lot better, or at least far less intrusive than I'd been led to believe going by certain reviewers. Like damn, pretty much made a fuss about nothing and I actually liked a few of them.
This movie wouldn't make sense if it were in the same canon as the the other two, given that they had to prove ghosts exist and stuff. People have short memories, but you'd think they'd probably still at least talk about that one time a giant marshmallow man terrorized the city, or the time the Statue of Liberty started walking.

The cameo characters could still be the original GBs but they just never formed in this timeline.
Aykroyd could be this universe's Ray Stantz; he's a ghost geek and never said his name.
He even mentions "Nearest parallel dimension" in GB1. Where did Zuul go?
It's way too bad that Murray went out of his way to be terrible though. There were circumstances, but I was hoping he'd be better than that.

i just got back from seeing it and thought it was a solid re-boot, that set up the series for sequels. i would give it a b-, just because it could have been funnier. i understand that it's rated PG for kids, but there could have been smarter humor hidden in there for the parents. the fact that it was 4 women comedians didn't have anything to do with it for me. it could have easily have been 4 male comedians...honestly i would have a difficult time thinking of 4 male comedians who would have done a better job. the cast was the strong point of the film.

Thank you, exactly what I was looking for. I'm very tired of Hollywood this year after Batman v Superman and I'm withholding lots of ticket purchases I'd otherwise make.

Yeah, honestly neither is a must-see in my opinion. They both made for pleasant afternoon distractions but neither was a "You're guaranteed to love it" film for me.
Popstar still remains my favorite Hollywood film of the summer so far.
They weren't as intrusive as I feared they would be, but they were all pretty much unnecessary inclusions IMO.

It is a terrible title, good thing OP didn't pick it.
Loved the movie. I've seen more movies this year than I have in the last 10 years, and thus far Ghostbusters has been the best movie I've seen all year (although I suspect I may like The Secret Life of Pets more)

Patty was my favorite character, although Jillian Holtzmann is a close second because of how ungodly hot she is in the movie :x

I went in with low-middle expectations but ended up laughing my way through the whole film. It's a lot sillier in tone than the original, and the big set piece of the third act was just ok but overall I really enjoyed myself.
It's not as good a genre flick as the original, but it's very good on its own merits.
Also, the trailer made me wary of Jones's character but in the film she never felt to me like a "aw hell no" loud black woman stereotype like the trailer implied so that was a big relief on what I was most wary about.

Full disclosure: They have a badass arcade shack with five awesome pinball machines, Out Run and a CRT MAME cabinet. This is the real reason I went.

Feel free to have not enjoyed it but that's not true of this movie.
This was done with a lot of passion from Feig and Kate Dippold.
This wasn't hire some scrub writer and some cheap paint by numbers director.
Like I said you're free to hate it, Feig comedies aren't for everyone but this wasn't some boardroom crafted movie that was handed to some director for hire.
Which incidentally is probably why it's gotten decent reviews.

I just asked that they didn't take me out of the movie, and I don't really think I did. I did enjoy seeing Ernie Hudson and I liked Annie Potts' cameo pretty well. Murray's took an... interesting turn, which took me by surprise a little.
lol, people sure like bashing movies using the money missile, when that applies to pretty much every movie out of "Hollywood." It's like, no shit. It's called mutual gain. They give us entertainment, which they foot very large bills for.

Murray's cameo was the worst acting I've seen from him ever. In a Ghostbusters movie too. He probably enjoyed his Get Smart appearance more than this.
Ernie Hudson never got enough credit though.

Yeah he wasn't great and I knew he didn't really care to be there. It's why I've always argued that they should just leave stuff alone, let it stand as its own thing. Which it does, but there's so many people including the studios that can't seem to let it go.
If it was a necessary evil for the movie to get made, then whatever, I can stomach it.

Anyone else think Rowan as a villain is sort of... meta? He came across as the kind of guy that would leave poisonous Youtube comments about the movie, for instance. I'm not sure if that was their intention, but even if it were, they're not making fun of everyone against the movie, just the kind of basement dwelling sleazenuggets that were hurling all the insults and whatnot.
Again I'm probably way off on that, but it is a thought I had while watching it

Saw this today and absolutely loved it. As a longtime Ghostbusters fan, I feel like I was in the minority in that I was always excited for this movie, so it's not like I went into with low expectations.
I had such a big grin on my face for most of the film. Really had a great mix of comedic adventure and sci-fi. I'll definitely be headed back for at least a second viewing in the near future.

So, brought the mom to this last night. Ghostbusters was literally my first love since 3-6 months old, and it was only fitting that I bring the woman that introduced me to the series to see this relaunch. Plus, she's a huge Melissa McCarthy fan so, it was a given.
To be honest, maybe with the exception of Civil War, this was probably my favorite movie all year. Granted, I'm not really a fan of current SNL, so Im afraid I'm not familiar with too much of these actresses' roles outside of this, but they made GB into their own easily. Just as it was in '84, the chemistry between the four was a big role in the spirit of this movie.

Yeah, Jillian was an adorable shit, but unlike you guys and gals. I really, really hated Kevin. I know folks found him humorous, but I thought he was annoying. And the villain was kinda of a wiener overall, but still, for some reason, the plot reminded me of something you'd see in "Real Ghostbusters" or the 2009 video game.

Watching the movie last night, I saw a group of young girls, not much older than I was when the original cartoon/GB2 came out. They all wore GB stuffs, and cheered and danced along with the end theme (The walk the moon one, not that shitty fall out boy version). I dunno - regardless of who has what sex, it made me happy to see these things passed on to a new generation, and more importantly, is accepted and cherished by it.
Along with the NES mini announcement, it's one of those things I wished I had kids of my own to share with. (That's another story all together...)
It is also why it's heartbreaking that GB16 was outdone by that dog movie. I couldn't believe it when I read it this morning....

Saw it again, this time with my father and neice. They really enjoyed it. My Dad put it best saying "it's a new take on a old franchise, I dig it"
Second viewing kept me entertained just as much as the first. Man, so many moments crack me up and the potential for a no holds, cameo free, set up free sequel seem amazing. Can't wait for the bluray and deleted scenes.

I was afraid patty would just be the loud black woman stereotype. But i liked her. She adds some soul to the team.

Yeah, that cover isn't very good, but it's so brief and mostly innocent in the actual cut. Like it's there but doesn't overstay its welcome.

Exactly, people aren't preordering tickets for ghostbusters, and it could be coincidence that all of those people are from small towns which there are a ton of.
But I think you have a great point in saying that the walkup crowd is attracted to this movie. Its the movie that you settle with when you can't decide but still wanna go.
Great to hear that reviews are positive. I didn't like the trailer much but thats a 2 for 1 when the trailer doesn't end up portraying the whole movie.

Man I hope this does good enough. It's under their projections but I wonder what the legs and home video sales it's gonna do. Sony's already said that more are happening regardless because they've already set a lot into motion, but I hope it doesn't discourage them. I think next time it's going to be a little more quiet, this was two years of just rampant stupidity and bullshit which likely hurt it a little.

I've actually enjoyed the Fall Out Boy version of the theme since the second time I've listened to it once it was posted to GAF.
All of the other versions are super safe and unnecessary remixes with little differences. The Walk the Moon version being the most unneeded. It's like a Guitar Hero cover when they couldn't use the original.
The FOB version oozes its own charm and charisma imo. New sounds and aesthetics mixed with some familiar lyrics.

I do like how the FOB cover seems to, instrumentally, draw from the Ghostbusters 2 version of the theme that plays during the montage in that film.
I don't really care for it, but I don't hate it as much as everyone else. It's not really good, but not like the most repulsive thing ever and Shapiro's score in this was so fucking good.
