HEY! C'MON C'MON: It's the Giga Powered Neo Geo Appreciation Thread

Your experience with JAMMA Nation X will be better for sure. The image quality is truly pristine. I'm sure an omega would also be a great option.

Don't let the shady analogue dude sour you on a fantastic hobby.

Agreed. I have two CMVS units from Jamma Nation X. Great seller.

It's hard to spent more on Neo-Geo systems, but I suppose it's nothing compared to the actual games! Where can I find some more information on this Jamma Nation X CMVS? There is nothing on their store page. Some pictures, specifications, and pricing would be great.

Wow, that Metal Slug concept art is fantastic, thanks for posting that.

I wonder if the drawings are preserved in some way, would be a shame if they've been binned! The series deserves an art book.

Some stuff is here:

https://www.instagram.com/jamma_nation_x/

Just email James directly on his site - he'll sort you out.

I'll look for his contact information on the site (didn't see it immediately). Funny enough, on that instagram account there was a post about the Analogue CMVS, and how he was able to repair one and fixed the RGB. In that post he also said to just send him a message if you have a bad Analogue CMVS and they're not responding, and he'll fix it. If he can do that for me, that would be amazing.

contact@jamma-nation-x.com

He is very responsive. I am working out a console right now with him. Great guy.

Great, thanks. Yesterday I sent a message using the form on the website before I saw your response. I will use the email address you provided in case I don't get a response that way.

I'm hoping this will all work out. If the Analogue CMVS gets fixed and works as I expect, it should be a very nice system and comparable to the alternatives. Will keep you guys posted.

Sounds like a plan! Please keep us informed. I am working out a CMVS console myself. And with that said, I just purchased my first MVS cart just now!

Should be here in a few weeks. I will be replacing that label and making sure the cart is clean once I receive it.

If the label is original I wouldnt replace it. Most people prefer a worn original over a repro.

Oh man......I figured I was pushing 70 AES games but I did a count just for fun and it's 94. O_o
How is this possible?! I'm by no means planning on having a full set but just the games I really wanna play....but there are still so many missing.

Slowly but surely shelf space is becoming an issue as well.

Anyway, what titles are you folks still missing from your personal Want Lists?

Basically all of them lol :(

Can we talk about the canceled Garou: MOTW 2 title for a bit? I've been staring at the released images of the roster and I am trying to put it all together as much info as possible.

This is without a doubt "Kuan" (クアン), the apprentice of Joe Higashi mentioned first by Akihiko Ureshino on his blog and then given a name in Maximum Impact: Regulation A. According to Joe's profile in XII, "She is a thief who tries to pickpocket Joe. Impressed with her top class physical strength and her daring, he immediately dubs her his disciple and inspires the girl to live a new life learning Muay Thai". Even has the same pose as Joe Higashi (stance animation from XII)!

This appears to be Rock, looking all nice and dapper. Influenced by Kain after he goes with him in search of information on his mother (confirming his ending to be canon). I am not sure the capacity in which he would have a played a role like this considering his regular attire version of himself was still playable. Makes me think how different this version of him could have played. Perhaps relying on Geese's influence more than Terry's here? Speaking of normal Rock, his sprite was slightly altered.

His arm and head positions are changed.

so I went ahead and splurged on a top-loading neo geo cd (also got Last Resort and aero fighters 2).

No pics (hasn't even arrived yet, there's plenty of time left for it to go wrong), but owning any sort of neo geo hardware has been my gaming holy grail for some years so I'm pretty excited about this, lol.

Congrats! Now't wrong with the Neo CD, especially with the earlier games. The later ones do suffer from load times, but, modern gaming isn't perfect either let's face it.

The Neo CD produces pretty awesome RGB out of the box, and whilst some of the games can be pricey, you can usually get most of what you want for a not too high price.

I would have Garou 2 - in 2D over pretty much any new game coming out. So gutted that something couldn't have come out of the work they had done up to then.

YES! JOIN US!

Congrats man! Aero Fighters 2 was one of the few games that came with my system when I ordered it a few years back! Fun little shmup! Easy ride until the final level against the monkeys. You'll see what I mean. Fuck those monkey's they must be friends with this guy.

Yall have probably already heard but Code Mystics is porting good ole MARK OF THE WOLVES to ps4!

If its anything like LB2 port it should be fantastic (hopefully without the need of a patch this time ;)

If you're reading this Code Mystics, please add arranged trax to Last Blade already.

Sweet! This will be my 3rd time buying Garou once it comes out lol. Will add to the 360 and MVS version, just so I can play it on Vita.

Also, goddamn Arcade Works takes a while to ship the Omega. Almost a month now waiting for this thing. I just stare at my small collection of MVS carts and shed a few tears since I can't play them yet.

I have been having dark thoughts of buying an omega CMVS. Dark thoughts.

I got my Neo Geo CD. Two thoughts:

1: This thing is a lot bigger than I thought ._.

2: I don't know if mine is defective (I've heard neo geo cd controllers have a design flaws that guanranteed to clog the clicky stick) or I just need some adaptation time, but bloody hell I don't like the controller. Hitting diagonals is a pain.

Still, being able to play Last Resort on legit SNK hardware (with a rocking AST, to boot) is more than worth the price : D.

Always wanted a Neo Geo when I was younger. Just could never afford the pricing. Loved Samurai Showdown in the arcades.

May have to jump into seeing about getting one now.

So im thinking I just got a Spin Master bootleg MVS cart. Wires in the back are most likely a dead give away right?

The front board does say SNK NEO-MVS but then the other number is PROG 4096 B...

Im dumb for not looking at the rest of the photos and clearly seeing wires attached on the rear board, but also the listing said:

Neo Geo MVS Spin Master Working Arcade Jamma 100% Original. and from a 100% feedback seller...so I guess I got a little last minute hasty.

Check it out here

If you don't have windowed eeproms thats a good start but best way is to always open the cart to check it, then clean it.
Wires can sometimes mean repairs, SNK rarely did it this way, but that doesn't mean someone didnt fix the original.
Eventually mask roms will die and replacement eeproms will have to fill that gap.

Anyways, if it's not legit, return it.

Well looking at the scans, the boards dont match. Not only that, but after putting the game in, the sound is all staticy. Guess i'll be contacting for a refund.

Yeah its a bit smaller than the OG xbox haha. Pretty lightweight though I think.

But yeah it takes awhile to get used to the CD pad if that's what you're talking about. I know I had to learn for at least a good year how to execute SRK motions in any games on it effectively without just whiffing or dropping inputs everywhere.

If you think it might be defective though, unscrew it and clean the four micro switches. James (Jamma Nation X) has a good ole video that will walk you through it.

After playing it a bit, I'm certain one of the switchs is genuinly busted. If I press down-left, my character will move left for a bit before going in diagonal properly.

I saw that video, but I'm a bit weary of anyting that require precise dissassembly because I'm dyspraxic :s. Oh well.

That's rough! I just cleaned my pad a few days ago due to it sustaining a similar down on the dpad defect and the cleaning fixed it immediately. My ps2 Neo Geo pad also had the same error, those microswitches are just bound to fail eventually unfortunately.

If you need/don't want to just buy a new one (they can be pricey still) I might be able to help you out and give it a go/try to fix it. Just PM me.

Get your money back, son.

Yeah i'm asking for a refund. He sent me a message saying something about trying to clean it with a rubber band first... Just sent him back one saying it didnt work and i'd still like to ship it back for a refund.

"Hi, I tried rubbing the chips with a rubber band like you suggested but THEY ARE STILL FUCKING BOOTLEG PIECES OF SHIT."

Oh man. I was going to suggest that it was possibly a factory repair based on the pics you showed.

I'm glad you posted the ebay listing as the seller provided pics of the boards.

That's definitely a bootleg. The boards don't match to anything on mvs-scans. But more importantly, anytime you see uncovered eproms, it's safe to assume that they're boots. SNK did sometimes use eproms, but they'll never be uncovered.

Oh fuck. Unknowingly dropping money on a bootleg is like my worst fear in MVS collecting.

I just bought a few MVS games two days ago... I'm really hoping everything's kosher because I dropped a few hundred.

Where can I order a screwdriver head that works on MVS cart security screws?

MVS Scans is your best friend. As are clear cases if the seller won't open the cart up to show the boards. Most of my MVS games were bought off of ebay and none of them are boots. I tend to avoid buying from Korea and China. According to the Neo-Geo forums, France has a bad rap. Try and look at the sellers history and see if any of their sold carts were boots. MVS Scans also shows the cart label which can be a helpful indicator of what to look for. Uncovered eproms, obvious soldering work, Chinese lettering, and strange font for the SNK logo are all good indicators. I'm sure I'm missing some other bootleg traits.

I'd be happy to help you if you need.

MVS carts don't have security screws, you just need a Philips head.

I guess I'm an outlier with bootlegs. My Waku Waku 7 is a bootleg and I don't care, it plays fine and was like 400% cheaper than a real cartridge.

Then again, I went into the purchase knowing that, so I didn't have to be suspicious or worried.

Thanks for all the detail. I try to match pics with MVS scans whenever I buy. Thank goodness for that resource.

But you never know. Sometimes those pics have "Toshiba" written on each rom, and that is missing in pics of MVS boards on eBay. But if the rest of the board is the same, is it authentic?

Is it safe to assume that bootleggers cannot faithfully reproduce a 1:1 copy of a Pcb board layout/text?

As I understand it, you should be fine. And yes, I've never seen a boot that was a 1:1 copy of an original pcb. Usually they're pretty easy to spot.

Yeah now that I've seen the scans, I see two more that look authentic, one by itself and one with a shock box, for about 20 bucks more than what I spent (plus shipping). I'm fine with repros and stuff you couldn't play normally / in your native language, but if it's available, prefer the real thing.

Really persistent lol :
"Hi
Hi I want to ask one last favor and offer you a refund for this work that I want to ask.
You can open the cassette, and remove the plates and wash them with soap and water with a brush, after drying in the hot sun for a day and try if it works correctly?
Regards"

I'm gonna stay civil but c'mon now lol.

Also even though the listing said St. Paul Arkansas, it shipped from Mexico, which I though was pretty good for MVS games...but still sent a red flag when it shipped.

WOW. I don't really know what to say.

Edit. Hang on. Is the seller trying to trick you into destroying the board so that he can tell dispute the refund with PayPal? Ignoring the soap and water mess, the sun will erase the data on those uncovered eproms.

Sounds like it, even with just the soap and water parts lol. That's a pretty dirty trick though...

Think I should reply with the UV light being an issue to erasing the data?

It might be a good start. I'd probably let the seller know that and that I'm also uncomfortable performing such tasks out of fear of damaging the item.
