Wikileaks posts thousands of hacked DNC emails

If only the leaks was for the RNC. Those would have been golden.

Who's to say they don't have leaks for the Republican side?

What they release is what they want to release. And doing a basic search of Gaf OT using "wikileaks" in the thread title shows a pattern to who out of the two presidential candidates they have released leaks for..

Two people suggested it in an internal email and then not doing it is now a plot.

I don't think it's that easy. I think most people think that the Democratic party is supposed to be the party where your religious background shouldn't matter. When people read this, they realize that it's all horse shit, and people will do whatever they can to win when it comes to politics. It kind of puts a cloud over all of the "Yay, Diversity!" ideas that they will be talking about next week.

I'm wound up because the overwhelmingly majority of people are totally brushing this off as a non-issue, when if the same exact thing were to happen involving the RNC there'd be 20 plus page thread burning them at the stake.

This thread is less than an hour old and there are a shitload of emails.

Well I mean Republicans already attack their opponents on the basis or religion, not much to reveal there

Erm, no one justified it.
He's saying it's what office people do.

No.

Not really. I've never worked in an office where those kinds of emails are sent around to each other.

It's like when the Republicans tried to justify the disgusting, racist emails that were sent around in the Ferguson PD... 'Well, all offices do this!'.

Nope. They don't.

Considering Russia's response to Trump doing well it's not that hard to figure out...

It might shock you, but there are much worse things going on in that party than a few nasty emails.

They have a racist white nationalist as their nominee for fuck's sake.

None of us are excusing the emails. There are much worse things.

I don't give a shit about what people think about other religions/races/species/countries/sports teams/etc...

I care about what policies they will enact. The rest is noise, it is that easy.

Not going to hold my breath for any RNC leaks. These hacks were perpetrated by organizations believed to have ties to the Russian government, and Trump and Putin have been very buddy buddy so far this campaign.

to be fair, they could publish all the dirt they wanted on trump. his supporters would reference 4d chess and pretend nothing happened.

It's amazing how in thousands of emails containing sensitive personal information like SSNs, the most damning thing found so far was one guy saying "We should do something shitty" to which another replied "Nah."

Great job wiki leaks.

Yep.

The intent of releasing these emails is abundantly clear,

Thats a pretty good takeaway

While I don't think it was your intention, based on the quote I saw from the email, this was entirely written in a political framing. Additionally, it would not have been off limits in the GE either.

Trying to compare it to the Ferguson PD email stuff is odd.

Edit: Wait, am I mixing up what we are referring too?

Yep, there were two articles posted earlier in this thread about that.

Like, I'm so fucking ashamed of some of you. The mental gymnastics that some of you must have to do...

It doesn't matter that this strategy was never put into effect. This is one of the most prominent officials at the DNC. Even just putting forth the idea of targeting somebody's religion and demonizing them for being Jewish/Athiest is fucking shameful. That shouldn't even be spoken/written, let alone by somebody of power and prominence.
To be fair, going by the quote in that tweet, and I think this was all a disgusting idea made by awful people, they're not targeting him for being Jewish, they're saying they could somehow out him as an atheist because he'd avoided the issue of his own spirituality up to that point, saying he was of Jewish heritage. They're saying being an atheist would look worse to their religious base than being a Jew.

Again, as an atheist myself and someone who's always baffled by America's unhealthy obsession with religion, I find this disgusting.

Still, I wonder how it would look for any organization (a political party, a university or a corporation) if all its emails leaked. I have an intuition they would all look terrible, but I realize I'm bordering on hypothetical whataboutism. We'll never find out though, because Russia isn't interested in the others.

Not equating the content of the emails, just the general idea that these kinds of things are normally discussed in an office setting... As if that justifies it.

I'm so confused and ignorant when it comes to this, and admittedly, I don't keep up with it all. Did Hillary do something illegal or not with this whole email thing?

Also this. Its clear that they had plenty of ammo they could have gone with but chose not use.

The election was not really all that close after South Carolina, so it's logical. Why throw shit to build up the margin?

From a purely rational perspective, there is not enough to gain and more to lose.

Different email thing.

Yes, this is about likely Russian State Sponsored Hackers who released info to Wikileaks who did not redacting of personal information.

These are different emails. Hacked (courtesy of Putin's goons) from the Democratic Party; not related to Hillary's email scandal.

Just saw this email on my twitter page. Is this offensive?

i think the basic gist is some members of the DNC talked about it but the general idea was for them to just not do shit like this, presumably because Hillary or someone else high up did not want them to.

Hard to say if that was done out of kindness or because they knew that it would actually be a terrible look for them.

Nothing is done out of the will to be kind in American politics.

I'm sure it was a measured decision, and the cons outweighted the pros.

Wow, the outrage. I never!

I doubt that Sanders is an atheist though. He doesn't seem to mind the socialist label, so I can't imagine he'd be too upset at being called atheist. If anything it would probably have done more to energize his youthful base.

Why publish this then? Just because you got some emails, doesn't mean it needs to be published. Surely this is a criminal offense?

Easy. Because it relates to email, you can tie to quite strongly to Clinton's email scandal. In reality, they're unrelated.

If you dislike Clinton, you simply go "Ah, if she did not run her own private server, none of this happens." Unrelated, but it's an easy tie. Rather smart actually.

EDIT: On the eve of the VP announcement too!

That basically sounds like a Poligaf conversation, lol.

that's true. anyone not following the election rather seriously would be able to easily confuse this leak and the hrc emails
