Wikileaks posts thousands of hacked DNC emails

and the question that should be asked is why people are sending their SSN# through email, and also, peoples names and address are really not that big of a deal considering it's probably already plastered all over the internet already

Im not defending wikileaks for doing this, but you take the good with the bad, and I doubt this will "ruin lives." This will be a major inconvenience for a lot of people, but there are steps involved for rectifying it.

Getting your identity stolen is just a 'major inconvenience'?

Worst case scenario: This doesn't have much impact.

Best case scenario: With it having been released so close to articles about Trump's ties to Putin, this starts a narrative and has blowback on the Republicans.

Whats funny about this, is there was a time when congressmen/senators who were republican called President Obama weak in contrast to putin. Might really look like cahoots.

I really hope you're right, and that seems like how this will shape up, either that or it will go unnoticed by media because Friday night news dump. Just a weird day for wikileaks to drop this is all.

Fucking lol

I doubt if that happened to you that you'd be brushing it off.

There's so much in the news today, and it's also Friday, this was a terrible time to release this if they wanted anyone at all to pay attention to it.

Wikileaks doxxing people (including their bank account, passport, and social security #s) will not have any impact on those peoples' lives?

lol

I'm all for hearing about the bullshit hypocritical or nasty shit pulled in politics but personal info like SS numbers?

WHAT THE FUCK, MAN?

I feel like there is some beautiful irony in watching people in here who have been all but demanding Clinton's head over a nothing e-mail "scandal" now gleefully shifting through actual data and emails that were stolen by fucking Russians.

Are you guys serious right now with the "if this was the RNC..." comments?

They've actually *done* much worse than what is in this email, this month.

Drop the pretense. We *can* have higher standards for the Democrats without resorting to this nonsense.

Or defending the mass diplomat email dump the last time it got brought up.

Are you downplaying what having your social security number leaked online can do to someone's life?

Seriously?

Super PAC paying young voters to push back against Bernie online is disgusting.

Wouldn't be surprised if a few of them where on here.

Oh boy. My hardcore Bernie friends are up in arms right now lol. Do any of these anti-bernie emails come from Hillary herself? Or is it just a bunch of random DNC politicians making plans and not following through?

They are DNC emails, so nothing from Hillary or her camp.

Just lots of mentions of coordinating with HFA (Hillary for America) or HVF (Hillary Victory Fund) and stuff like that.

Judging by the statuses I'm seeing you'd think Hillary orchestrated everything herself lol.

Wow, the leaks had SSN's? That's embarrassing for Wikileaks tbh.

Just saw this on Reddit.

Most fucked up thing is controlling the narrative with the media. Also, there is now proof that the DNC and Hillary's camp were colluding.

You should see the yacht I bought with my shilling money.

And I'm Canadian!!!!

Ok so you're not a shill. But you think it's ethical that both mainstream media and social media was distorted by Hillary's camp?

As much as Bernie was paying for internet support.

To a tune of 22 million dollars.

Controlling the narrative with the media example is... of a controlled leak.

Seriously. Is this your first time hearing about people leaking a news story? Hahaha

It doesn't seem that simple. The author of the e-mail says that they should get one of their representatives to speak with the reporter, which implies that they're controlling how the message is portrayed in the media.

Both paid for online users to do and say things but it's only false and evil when Clinton does it.

Never heard this before, do you have proof?

Do you have a source because as far as I know only the Clinton PAC actively paid for astroturfing while Sanders claimed that their campaigns payment to Revolution Messaging was entirely just online advertising, graphic design, etc.

Yes, it's called a controlled leak.

"...the specific reporter is not as important as getting it to an outlet before the news breaks so we can help control the narrative on the front end. Otherwise this may likely get spin in a not-so-helpful way."

This is literally the textbook definition of a controlled leak, dude. I hate to sound condescending but this is like "reporting 101" stuff here.

You're missing the rest of the e-mail, dude.

No I didn't. The relevant part starts when they say that the specific reporter doesn't matter and that they want to make sure that the news breaks the way they want it to (e.g. a controlled leak)

They then toss out a name close to a campaign so that the controlled leak will be framed as "a source close to campaign informed us that..." (e.g. an unnamed source)
First election?
Yeah. Controlled leaked and unnamed sources. The double whammy of people not understanding how journalists gets any information beyond press releases and prepared speeches.

Why would they need to get a specific representative on phone with the reporter if all they're doing is a controlled leak? Stop acting like it's completely irrelevant.

I don't think DWS was asking to talk to Mika Brezinski's boss about a 'controlled leak'

And telling the media to remove Tim Canova's name from a headline isn't a leak.

People are acting like this isn't how political operatives on all sides of the political spectrum in every single democracy on Earth do their work.

This is democracy in action, people. It's dirty and disillusioning, but it's also the status quo. You saw a tiny slice of the sausage being made, and you're acting like it's somehow unique to Hillary.

If you think that Bernie or Trump or Obama don't also have people like this on the payroll then you need to do some reading.

Listening to Bernie kids trying to zing Clinton on political ethics is like listening to GG try to zing Kotaku on journalistic ethics. You just started caring about this stuff a couple of months ago, there's a lot you still have to learn.

RECEIPTS PLEASE. I love to see who Bernie has over at the DNC plotting to screw Hillary over.

We're not talking about the internal workings of a campaign. If this were Clinton's people, I'd agree with you. This is the DNC. Is the DNC an extension of Clinton's campaign? If so, why would any Democrat who didn't vote for Clinton not be outraged by this?

The DNC is one political group among many within the big tent of the Democratic Party (unlike Bernie). They choose a candidate every election. They decided early this year to support Hillary and try not to split the field.

Again, this shit is all very, very well accepted standard practice. Hillary put the work in within the party, Bernie wasn't even a member until a couple of months ago. What did he expect the party establishment to do?

The DNC isn't the government, it's the party. The party elders are allowed to make decisions.

Their own bylaws state that they're supposed to "exercise impartiality and evenhandedness as between the Presidential candidates and campaigns."

With all the shit that's been brought up, leaked, scrutinized, etc I'm kinda amazed Hillary Clinton seems relatively clean.
