This isn't treason, since he couched it as a joke and that will be the defense.

That said, it's a poor joke coming from a Presidential candidate and one that should give his supporters pause, but it's another one on the pile for Trump.

I think we're actually at the point (the general election proper, that is) where you can't construe statements like this as jokes or whatever anymore.

Handwaving has been the standard defense for everything Trump has said in this election. That has to stop. People have got to realise that others will take his statements at face value, that when it's all he's saying it cannot be taken otherwise.

I agree. Now the conventions are winding down and the general election officially beginning, this type of thing isn't going to slip by as easily. Especially now that the majority of the electorate is paying closer attention.

He said that later. The direct quote in that video is "Russia if you are listening, I hope you are able to find the 30'000 e-mails that are missing"
