Ah, the ol' Donald Double Down.

Paul Ryan Spokesman: “Putin Should Stay Out Of This Election”
WASHINGTON — As Donald Trump calls on Russia to find and expose his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton’s emails, congressional Republicans are pushing back and bashing Russia’s leader Vladamir Putin.

In a statement, Speaker Paul Ryan’s spokesman Brendan Buck said: “Russia is a global menace led by a devious thug. Putin should stay out of this election.”

During a press conference Wednesday morning, Trump essentially encouraged cyber espionage against Clinton. “Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing,” he said. “I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press.”

what exactly is the humorous premise this "joke" is operating on? is it the same one where guys say fucked up shit to a girl and when she tells him to fuck off, he calls her a bitch and acts like she's the crazy one? that classic? cool.

This guy is days away from security briefings.

There is no fucking way he isn't going to start leaking shit to the media. He can't keep his fucking mouth shut. He will absolutely try to imply attacks are coming or something all the fucking time.

It's not, honestly. It was a very stupid thing to say, but to hear some people defending him you'd think he was running for president of his college's student government association, not president of the United States.
This.

He's running for President of The United States. The stakes are too high for things like this to be flippantly spouted out and then just ignored since it was said in jest.

These comments today didn't come out of the blue. They don't exist in a vacuum. People are taking a hard look into Trump's admiration of and Manafort's ties to Russia. He may have thought this was a way to "joke away" this connection, but it'll only intensify.

And if it was a joke? This shit isn't funny anymore. This man is running to be the commander in chief.

Whats going to be even more impressive is when he can't keep his fucking trap shut on national security issues, especially if its longer lasting ones that has even remote ties to when Hillary when Secretary of State. You think this piece of shit will be able to not spill the beans?

Right, but he's not saying he hopes Russia hacks the US govt to get the deleted 30k emails. He's saying if they already hacked them and have them to release them.

is this pedantry and semantics? YES IT IS!!! Trump has done this so many times in the past...media spins and then at the end he's proven right and media has egg on their face
Or you know, when you're a public facing person, you make sure your messages are received clearly because blunders will make you look bad. You don't formulate something saying "gee, I'll have my internet defense force to explain my joke".

That strategy has worked for him 100 percent of the time so far, so it was worth it for him to try it again I guess.

Sorry but this is another example of people blowing up something Trump says in a sarcastic manner. You guys do this all the time...something i've noticed for the past year reading political threads about Trump.

I agree with all the posts above. Dumb joke to make but that's all it is. Please stop with the TREASON! STRAP HIM INTO THE CHAIR!!!! type of reactions.

DJT is not a politician...he doesn't know how to speak like one.

You are a sad individual. Stop hand-waving all of the shit that has piled up against Trump. It isn't a god damned joke, no matter how much you want to make it one. You apparently have no standards in what you look for in a presidential candidate. You deserve ridicule of the highest order.

Being a politician is not synonymous with understanding that you shouldn't ask a foreign government to hack an official's email within your country. I wouldn't even expect Ben Carson to ask Russia of this, and he's a surgeon. Are you fucking kidding me?

Here's hoping.

I don't see the outrage here. Someone who followed it more closely can correct me, but my understanding is that

1) the emails have been long deleted by Clinton attorneys

2) they were deleted after a determination that they were "personal" and not related to any government function

If I were Putin, and I had the emails now, I'd hold on to them (if there's anything there beyond personal stuff) and use them as blackmail against President Hillary Clinton.

So Trump has basically allied himself with Russia/Putin now. And it casts this election in a whole new light. This isn't anything to handwave and ignore.

So if he starts to yap then what? At what point do you get in trouble?

I so much wanted to post this first :(

If you don't see the outrage then you need to read the title of this thread again.

The outrage is that a presidential candidate is directly calling for a malicious foreign government to interfere in an election AFTER it's already been implied that this was the case.

He's encouraging the spying of a foreign power on the US for his political gain. That's totally fucked up.

"When I'm president of the United States, the best intelligence agencies in the world that right now have been hamstrung. They're going to be expanded."

The treason comments are hilarious. Do you really think Russia is just sat around waiting for the Donald's signal to either hack the emails or leak them?

And that really is 'sarcastic' about what he said? I'm not seeing anything that says this is sarcasm or a joke. The lengths some people will go to defend this fucker. I just cannot understand.

No it's not actual treason.

Yes it's something that a presidential candidate should be torn to shreds for even suggesting.

Donald Trump, nominee of the major political party in US, hoped Russia had hacked his rival's email server when she was US Secretary of State.

Is there a full clip of the video where he says this stuff? This article about it seems to suggest that not only may he not necessarily have just been casually joking about it, but then doubled down and ignored further questioning on it for clarification of his position:

"Later in the news conference, when asked if he was really urging a foreign nation to hack into the private email server of Mrs. Clinton, or at least meddle in the nation’s elections, he dismissed the question. “That’s up to the president,” Mr. Trump said, before finally telling the female questioner to “be quiet — let the president talk to them.”

I assume he's just saying provocative stuff for jokes or to get a rise out of people, though...but that's really not a thing to mess around with, is it?

A guy like Trump wouldn't normally get a job that would require any kind of security clearing.

But it's good to know that he's encouraging Russian cyber attacks. He would be a good sport as POTUS.

That's not the point. He's actively advocating a foreign power hacking into United States government servers. I mean...it's not that hard to understand. It may not be high Treason exactly, but still, I don't see how anyone can defend this. It's absolutely insane.

???

Read the OP again?

Are you voting for Trump?

Well,

Trump seems to think getting attention during the DNC is a winning strategy. And he now has it.

This is going to go over as well as his ban muslims, thanks for the congrats message after Orlando.

He's fucking unhinged and all the work they did last week to try and make him seem reasonable is right back in the gutter.
