Trump 'hopes' Russia will hack US government for Hillary emails.

He was trolling. I don't understand why people still don't get that Trump is a master at saying things that get under people's skin and twisting the knife. Then those statements get reported as news.

For example, a month or so ago he was giving an interview to the New York Times. It's well documented Trump hates the Times. They pressed him on if he really wanted to go ahead with the nomination and become President. He made a flippant comment about not going through with it if he wins, and the next day headlines were: "Trump will quit if elected"!
He's a front runner to be president of the United States. None of this is a joke.

Oh, shocking, fucking CNN already walking back. Now the headline is "Putin will respect me."

Great job, CNN. Great fucking job.

Why do people think that is any better?

This isn't trolling. This is the cherry on top of a months long pattern of policy.

Great job, CNN. Great fucking job.

I still see the "Donald Trump encourages Russia to hack Hillary Clinton" headline.

Nah, I will not accept this 'just a prank, bro' excuse and neither should any of you. The guy is dangerous and now a traitor.

Again, as I said earlier

He is NOT IMMUNE TO BAD PRESS

His polls went down due to his response to the Orlando shooting.

And as I said earlier:

His comments about NATO? After the nomination
His comments about Russia? After the nomination.
His comments about the heritage of the judge in his Trump U case? After the nomination.
His comments about BLM? After the nomination.

I get it, the primaries are a different animal. Yet, his approval is on a huge upward trend, even after these stories. So clearly they're not damaging as much liberals hoped it would.

Margin of error.

Keep telling yourself that. He's unfit for the office of President of the United States.

Trump said he "never spoke to Putin". Didn't he say he had a nice long convo with him on the set of 60 Minutes a while back?

Nah, I will not accept this 'just a prank, bro' excuse and neither should any of you. The guy is dangerous and now a traitor.

yep. this isnt trolling or what ever this is unbecoming of anyone that aspires to be president of this country.

This combined with the refusal to show his tax returns really shows the guy is untrustworthy as hell and a liar of a higher degree than anyone running today.

His approvals went up because they always do after conventions unless you're Romney because Romney is a loser.

The Orlando shooting wasn't during the primaries.

So Trump thinks his own interests are greater than the national security of his country. Sadly, this is just another outrageous statement that Trump is going to get away with.

Guys, when are you going to get it?

It doesn't matter. He knows how to play the media and it's proven to work. Even if his own party disavows him, it won't matter.

Exactly. Republicans hate the party leadership, think they've been neutered, so whenever Trump does this, his supporters go crazy. Especially when the left freaks out about it.

I think that he claimed that they talked but then it was found out later they weren't on the same set and didn't speak at all. The guy is a pathological liar and at some point those lies loop around and snag you in them.

I'm aware, but you're bringing up *one* instance where his comments hurt him in the polls.

As a whole, his outrageous commentary never hurts him... And it's not as if it was just after the RNC that he got a bump. He cut her lead in half, according to 538, before the RNC even started.

The Idiocracy is real. Who in the world would say something like this when they could be President? (The answer is sadly terrifying.)

The bigger picture here, is he is basically asking Russia to break our first amendment rights because Hillary has a lot more on those 30K emails than just information she probably shouldn't have deleted. There are likely extremely personal issues that involve her family, her friends, or herself. Things that are personal to her.

Republicans spend a long time harping on the fact that it would be terrible if Hillary's private server gets hacked.

Trump then proceeds to ask Russia to hack in and get her emails.

Yep.

Sadly this.

The remark about the media would be very rewarding and "let's see if that happens" in regards to media coverage of a hack is straight up trolling.

Dude literally took all the wind out of the DNC chatter with this press conference. We are all being played.

Honestly. This is what I am leaning on. Dudes a grade-a douchebag and the media is playing right into it.

Basically. Trump never stopped being the loudmouth real estate/reality show guy that lets everyone gets under his skin. He has yet to understand it's time to be the president now and look after the interests of the country rather than promote his brand.

I don't feel like this is accurate, but I don't follow 538. She had a pretty comfortable lead before the RNC (and still has leads in demographics and individual state polls) from everything I read.

Honestly, it's going to work perfectly for him.

This is all anyone is going to talk about. It's going to overshadow Bill's speech yesterday, and the final day of the DNC.

And it won't phase his numbers at all. Just watch.

I follow the site daily. She started at 80/20, and it was 60/40 before the RNC began. Now it's basically tied... Some of this is the post-convention bump, sure. But there is more to it than that. You're delusional if you think otherwise.

He wasn't really *gaining* on Hillary before the RNC as much as Hillary was dropping due to having a historically bad week due to the fallout from the email controversy.

Yes. That's it. He's playing 11th dimensional chess.

Again this isn't true. When he was a racist against a judge recently his poll numbers tanked. It hurt him badly. His rise in the poll now is a combination of the Hillary servergate, and the bump you traditionally get after your parties convention. If in the middle of August he is leading then you can save he's the teflon don. His past comments have hurt him in the general. In the primaries not so much, but he has been hurt in the general.

His entire motivation to run for president has been to promote his own brand and raise his stock.

You seem to be paying attention, but missed that he didn't get a convention bounce and his polls have been static.

His gains are from Clinton dropping with the bad news of the DNC emails and the FBI investigation. They are not from any movement on his side.

I think he stepped in it here. This is going to make it very, very tough from Republicans running to say anything good about him. They were already running away. Now that will not be enough.

Even if he took the current chatter about DNC out, he couldn't stop all the positive stuff from it, especially Bill's speech that seemed to really speak to a lot of people, having its impact. Trump can't overshadow the DNC as a whole, not matter what he says. With Obama speaking today, especially.

Didn't sound like he was trolling or joking to me between the statement and the defensive response to that reporter about other things (like getting Hillary) being more important than the concerns being raised by the reporter.

You are wrong, you can keep doubling down on it all you want but his numbers will drop from this.

I don't know about that. He's essentially approving cyberwarfare against our intelligence agencies.

There's still going to be plenty of talk about the DNC speeches later, but the media isn't going to pass up the chance to talk about another of Trump's unforced errors now.

I have no problem with the media talking about Bill's speech, speculating on Obama's speech, and Trump's idiocy on FP.
