Trump 'hopes' Russia will hack US government for Hillary emails.

I really wonder if people are like "THIS whataboutism and deflection will work, lemme post it!" or if they are just like "ahhh fuck it, I'm all in anyways! Something something GAF.gif passive-agressive smiley face will do!"

Ahhh, yes, I forgot option C: Factually incorrect image macro!

Trump is advocating a far worse outcome than what actually happened as an offhand joke and to keep those emails in the news. Realistically, he's not going to get into any legal trouble for it. But it's not a good look.

I thought this would be good to review:

Statement by FBI Director James B. Comey on the Investigation of Secretary Hillary Clinton’s Use of a Personal E-Mail System

FBI investigators have also read all of the approximately 30,000 e-mails provided by Secretary Clinton to the State Department in December 2014. Where an e-mail was assessed as possibly containing classified information, the FBI referred the e-mail to any U.S. government agency that was a likely “owner” of information in the e-mail, so that agency could make a determination as to whether the e-mail contained classified information at the time it was sent or received, or whether there was reason to classify the e-mail now, even if its content was not classified at the time it was sent (that is the process sometimes referred to as “up-classifying”).

From the group of 30,000 e-mails returned to the State Department, 110 e-mails in 52 e-mail chains have been determined by the owning agency to contain classified information at the time they were sent or received. Eight of those chains contained information that was Top Secret at the time they were sent; 36 chains contained Secret information at the time; and eight contained Confidential information, which is the lowest level of classification. Separate from those, about 2,000 additional e-mails were “up-classified” to make them Confidential; the information in those had not been classified at the time the e-mails were sent.

The FBI also discovered several thousand work-related e-mails that were not in the group of 30,000 that were returned by Secretary Clinton to State in 2014. We found those additional e-mails in a variety of ways. Some had been deleted over the years and we found traces of them on devices that supported or were connected to the private e-mail domain. Others we found by reviewing the archived government e-mail accounts of people who had been government employees at the same time as Secretary Clinton, including high-ranking officials at other agencies, people with whom a Secretary of State might naturally correspond.

This helped us recover work-related e-mails that were not among the 30,000 produced to State. Still others we recovered from the laborious review of the millions of e-mail fragments dumped into the slack space of the server decommissioned in 2013.

With respect to the thousands of e-mails we found that were not among those produced to State, agencies have concluded that three of those were classified at the time they were sent or received, one at the Secret level and two at the Confidential level. There were no additional Top Secret e-mails found. Finally, none of those we found have since been “up-classified.”

I should add here that we found no evidence that any of the additional work-related e-mails were intentionally deleted in an effort to conceal them. Our assessment is that, like many e-mail users, Secretary Clinton periodically deleted e-mails or e-mails were purged from the system when devices were changed. Because she was not using a government account—or even a commercial account like Gmail—there was no archiving at all of her e-mails, so it is not surprising that we discovered e-mails that were not on Secretary Clinton’s system in 2014, when she produced the 30,000 e-mails to the State Department.

It could also be that some of the additional work-related e-mails we recovered were among those deleted as “personal” by Secretary Clinton’s lawyers when they reviewed and sorted her e-mails for production in 2014.

The lawyers doing the sorting for Secretary Clinton in 2014 did not individually read the content of all of her e-mails, as we did for those available to us; instead, they relied on header information and used search terms to try to find all work-related e-mails among the reportedly more than 60,000 total e-mails remaining on Secretary Clinton’s personal system in 2014. It is highly likely their search terms missed some work-related e-mails, and that we later found them, for example, in the mailboxes of other officials or in the slack space of a server.

Y'know.. your buddies in Congress have had millions and millions of dollars to spend going after her over the years. They did not want for resources in their pursuit. If she were so patently, blatantly criminal in her actions, as you so indicate, their incompetent asses should've had zero problems nabbing her and tossing her into the hoosegow.

Haha. I don't think for a second it will happen, but it would be hilarious on several levels.

I still think it's very twisted that Trump could go to trial over this while Hillary won't.
I don't know man.

Publicly committing a crime, versus already being proven to have committed no crime, seem like very good reasons Trump should go to trial on this while Hillary doesn't.

How is that an excuse? He's running for President of the United States. He no longer has the luxury of making jokes about serious national security matters. Not to mention the fact that he's doubled down on the statement and repeatedly pushed for closer ties with Russia and deteriorating relationships with close allies.

It's not an "excuse", it's an explanation that he wasn't actually "calling on Russia" to do anything, and it would be very easy to justify in a court room that most adults could pick up on the intended tone of the comment. Granted, irl, I'm sure he does hope that Russia gives him ammo, but the people claiming this as treasonous or seditious are being ridiculous.

Completely agree about the need for that neogaf.gif right about now. The blind bias around here is amazing. They are siding with someone who has actually been caught committing crimes against their country.
It's bizarre how these people seem to live in a parallel universe where the FBI Investigation accused Clinton of criminal activity.

I wonder what else happened in this strange parallel world.

Didn't even read my post, did you?

Unless you're indicating that Congressional Republicans are in on some sort of mad conspiracy with Obama to cover-up Hillary's crimes.

I don't think people realize that it was lead by Republicans, so that kind of response doesn't surprise me.

I think he meant to type in Facebook.com instead of neogaf.com lol

This is so ridiculous. The top stories on Fox news, case closed, officers acquitted, prosecutor incites community and Dems ignore the issues.

People elsewhere in the Internet have decided that this supposed joke was a brilliant political move, in that it gets people talking about e-mails/thinking about Hillary, and it also means that if you're mad that he's advocating hacking her, then it means the hack must be bad specifically because it will reveal gov't secrets (proving that Hillary's e-mails were in fact super-classified secrets and that the FBI/Hillary covered it up).

It's amazing, really.

Curious to see how they'll address that in any comments tonight, or how the polls will change based on this stuff...

I don't think people here have realized this yet. Or that we should try to get along in this world instead of fighting each other. Or that it's okay for others to have a different opinion without having to insult them.
This is rich from someone who just posted a Facebook meme.

Yes, let's just let Russia annex whatever territory Putin wants in the interest of peace and togetherness!

Opinions are not facts....though the GOP has certainly been trying hard to prove otherwise.

A government is going to protect itself before it will punish itself. If you parents found out you do illegal drugs what are the chances they would turn you into the police?

Man, talk about making something out of nothing.

It's very obvious from that video that he's talking about Russia finding deleted emails from when they already hacked her server.

I didn't see anything about him begging to hack the us government or committing treason. Amazing.

And that is what Trump is doing by supporting Russia's annexation of Crimea and threatening to weaken NATO?

What planet have you lived on where the tea party doesn't want to see Hillary shot for treason? Are you that dense?

So where in this grand master plan of "get along in this world instead of fighting each other" does "exploiting the tensions between two countries to 'lock up' a candidate so we can have a xenophobic megalomaniac installed as POTUS" fit in?

I can't tell if this is real.

Trump supporting Russian espionage is ok to reveal Hillary secrets.. is ok...?

What is amazing is after all the shit this man has said people are actually trying to act like they don't know the intentions of his rhetoric. We all know what he meant, he knows what he meant, he obfuscates just enough to allow deniability.

This is based on...?

Dude has already suffered in the polls from dumb shit said like his gloating after the Orlando shooting. Are people just not paying attention to the polls anymore and constantly parroting "bawk! Won't hurt him! Won't hurt him!!" at this point?

Amongst Republicans, he's offended POWs, Mexicans, Blacks, disabled persons etc and shit just slides of him.

"If two or more persons in any State or Territory, or in any place subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, conspire to...or by force to seize, take, or posses any property of the United States contrary to the authority thereof, they shall be each be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both."

Do you think that this is what's actually happening here? That Trump is openly offering to conspire with Russian hackers to help them get into Hillary's emails? Or do you think that maybe Trump is just making another attempt to push from a criticism of him, this ongoing issue of ties to Russia, into one of his standard attacks on Hillary?

Like, granted this is a dumb thing to say, like most of the shit that comes out of his mouth. But it's not zomg treason #TrumpForPrison.

Is it fair to say anyone who supports trump after this can be heckled as a communist

Communism was just a red herring.

Right, among Republicans. This election takes more people into account than just Republicans. He's made plenty of comments that have hurt him since he became the presumptive nominee.

Well, you see, the problem with Hillary's private server is that it had classified information on it and could've been hacked by the Russians. So I really hope that the Russians hacked her server so we could find out what classified information she had on it and find out if the Russians hacked it.

So you're saying the tea party runs the FBI and CIA?

The head of the FBI is Republican, for A. And B have you not seen the tea party hearings on this matter and Benghazi?

Communism was just a red herring.

Speech like that isn't protected by the first admendment though. I don't think it matters what his intent was. There is very little protecting Trump right now.
