A new low? Have none of you really played games like TF2 and CS:GO?Now that's a new low in unlocking and microtransactions? Where is Saty? He's vindicated I guess.
holy shit this is awful, what they were thinking.

So how many you guys buying?
With shitty odds too, I initially read that as one skin per box and then reread it. I'm not buying a single one, it does make their gold system pathetic too.this seems like SUCH a raw deal... not even the option to use coins :/
literally just gambling

If you know you're going to regret buying these items then don't buy them. Tweet blizzard explaining why you're not going to buy them. They're not going to change if they don't see significant backlash from the community a la Diablo III's real money auction house.
This system as it stands is abusive towards customers who bought a £40 game. Don't support it while feeling embarrassed, just don't support it at all.
Pressured into spending money? Why? For in-game street cred and so they can take a screenshot and say "haha look what I got!"Absolute shit, Blizzard. I'm definitely not going to be purchasing anything during this event, but the practice is incredibly predatory, and I know a lot of people will be pressured into spending money.
Kind of gross, and honestly a little unexpected. What are they thinking?

Or they could just implement a trading system so people can just trade each other for the skins they want. There are problems with the regular skins to begin with. You can't actually buy specific skins. The only thing you can buy are loot boxes which contents are always random, and sometimes you'll get the same skins. Yes, you get in-game credit for it, but its considerably less value than getting a new skin. With these Olympic skins, they are only available for a limited time, AND you can't buy them. It's a combination of RNG, micro transactions, and a Skinner box.
Yes, they're just cosmetics, and that's why the level of people's anger will vary with each person. I'm really bummed out because I want that Tracer skin, but I'm probably not going to get it. Hopefully they increase the chances of getting these skins.

Same, myself and my group of regulars were all really excited for this, we've been saving our coins and shit. With shitty odds too, I initially read that as one skin per box and then reread it. I'm not buying a single one, it does make their gold system pathetic too.
do u get duplicates in Black ops as well??
You could already spend money on crates. People here are really actually mad because they might miss out. And my answer to that is "tough luck". It's a special event where you might get some neat skins or sprays. Chucking a tantrum about it is stupid.

I would normally give Blizzard the benefit of the doubt because I am a Blizzard stan. But this is just pure greedy gambling tactics. If it was boxes with only these items in it then whatever. But from what I have read it also includes old items? That seems crazy. Have they officially released this yet or is this a leak?Maybe they really mean one skin per lootbox?
Only thing I can figure, they want to make sure 'events' like these are fully funded. So Summer games, Halloween, Christmas, etc will all have their own, exclusive, loot only items to ensure the dev time gets paid for (and they make a shitload of money).
The problem with this is they are introducing a loot only event before releasing more in-game items for us to purchase with gold. It looks bad. They shouldn't really go full predator with their first cosmetic offering out the gate.
Just because you see no value in having these skins doesn't mean others can't.
Seriously? Abusive? For cosmetics? What? Are they holding you at gunpoint and threatening to break your legs if you don't pay for them?
Insert terrible joke about testing the contents on animals
Tell me seriously: the people who complain about needing to play 24/7 to get cool stuff from level up crates, do you really think they have every single cosmetic item in the game by now. Each character has 50
Just because someone likes something doesn't mean they're pressured to buy it. Have some self control.

You can buy any skin you want on the steam market and special chests actually only contain items of that event.
The difference here is, before this event, even if you had shit luck with loot crates you could eventually build up enough in-game currency to get what you want. Blizz breaking their own rules and making you not even trust the systems they have in place. Not a good look.
Anyone who bought the $40 version of the game is already locked out of some skins forever. If you don't buy a Blizzcon ticket you'll miss out on some skins. Stuff like this is gonna happen a lot. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. I think in a year we'll be laughing at anyone who would ever expect to own 100% of items. It doesn't seem to be the way the game was designed. I think they would rather have everybody wearing different shit, and just having tons of stuff all around.People don't seem to get it. I'm sure some people are mad for this reason. But the main reason people are mad is because this is absolutely Blizzard trying to coerce people with addictive personalities into buying these boxes. You can earn every other skin in the game but these. And they also happen to be limited time only so the ONLY way you will get these is by either leveling up a hell of a lot or buying a bunch of crates AND being lucky. Yes, you don't need them and they are just cosmetic but people who don't need them aren't who Blizzard are after with this decision. They are after the whales, people who can't help themselves and it's kind of gross.
Say that to person with addictive personality and don't feel like total scum. Some people don't have self control even if they wanted to.

This model literally exists to take advantage of people who do not have that self control. Blizzard aren't innocent in this.

You can buy any skin but they're not a set price and are determined by the game's economy. The kind of cool stuff in CS:GO that people are in awe at and have missed out on due to rarity cost hundreds of dollars. And that only nets you one item.
You'd need to be playing the game a heck of a lot to get the coin drops for any of the cool skins already in the game. And yet the same people who've been grinding and getting lots of currency suddenly have a problem with grinding lots to get event items?
They have a lot worse enemies out there than Blizzard if they can't control themselves from buying loot boxes for Olympic skins and sprays.
I'm not saying this isn't a dubious event scheme for Blizzard, but come on, posts like this lack perspective.
I don't mind the timed aspect. It makes sense for 'events' IMO.
My biggest issues:
1) Separate loot box that contains "at least" one summer item which could be a duplicate (wtf)
2) Blizzard rendered their in-game currency worthless.
3) If you get a summer item dupe, they give you in-game currency that you can't even get another summer item with. (wut)
Horrible all around and they need to be called out for it.

I think (2) has some level of justification, in that allowing people to save up and splurge for a limited event somewhat ruins the point of such an event. It radically alters the rarity of those items, to the point where anyone saving up will be able to immediately get everything they want. This hardly suits Blizzard and to some degree it ruins the whole excitement and point of such an event.

So Lucio will never have a good skin ay...OK.
It's not like every person complaining in this thread is an addict. They're pissed because they're going to miss out. Don't sit there and use "what about addicts" to defend what are essentially people whinging that they might miss out.
So does posts at level of "lol, have some self control".
I understand why some people are angry about this, but I like the fact that it is limited time and by chance. This way when you get a cool skin it will actually be rare, and not everyone will (or even can have it). Otherwise I just play until I have 1000 coins and buy the skins I want most. And if I don't manage to get what I want, oh well, I am sure there will be other new limited skins down the road for other big holidays/events.
I didn't like the old system but the difference here is pretty clear. There is no guarantee here so this is not grinding anymore. This is just 100% gambling.
"What about the addicts" for this kind of thing, not even a system like TF2 and CS:GO where they give you "free" crates and want you to pay to unlock them, is like "think about the kids" to me. You can get all the things in the game without spending a dime, and other exclusive skins already expect you to spend money anyway. As others have said, unless you're buying Origins edition and watch Blizzcon you've already missed out.So does posts at level of "lol, have some self control".
