Overwatch gets Summer Games update (new mode in Weekly Brawl, new skins/etc)

Everyone go to Battle.net and let Blizzard know that we are against limited time, loot crate locked items. They must remove the time limit. To give an event feel, they should make these items have better RNG during these two weeks.

I'm buying loot boxes just so I can try to get the Olympic skins.

So fatassgaf is offended because its sports related and gamblingadditgaf is offended cuz its more to spend money on. Did i miss anything?
Oh.

At the end of the day, it is just cosmetics, but the crappy part is that you can't outright buy the skins. You HAVE to gamble. I don't know if they're legally doing anything wrong by that, and they probably aren't. It just feels wrong is all.

I'm chuckling at how a few of you called someone's post trash for using the word entitled while the word apologist isn't being used any better. lol

I'm chuckling at your incessant need to apologize for bad design and gambling. But carry on. and GL getting whatever skin you want. You'll need it.
I'd give them money for a skins pack or an emote pack but I'm not buying boxes for a random chance

+1

I guess it's to be expected that they'd be in loot boxes only. Is the 2x Summer Games Loot Box indicative of maybe a higher rate of gaining these loot boxes? Are all loot boxes during this period a "summer games" loot box? Because that'd be nice.

Imagine users being mad about gambling while simultaneously gambling with money for more in-game credits so that they can avoid gambling money.

And whatever items I get from this event will be what I get.

The limited time frame is terrible... Why not make these permanent additions, buyable in one huge pack? Currently playing on ps4, but have been considering double dipping on pc.

But since you don't share unlocks cross platform... I hate thinking I'd never be able to get some of these if i did at a later date.

I've brought boxes before and accepted the RNG factor, but making these boxes limited for three weeks with no guarantee of getting what you want is a huge kick in the nuts. Add that the limited stuff you can't buy with stored credits scream as a HUGE FU to people that have supported this game

I don't think they'll be available afterwards, it screws over someone either way.

- If they're available after the event and they tell people that, then why would people desperately play for the next three weeks to get exclusive unlockables?
- If they're available after the event and they don't tell people, then that's massively screwing over the people who spent money in order to get the skin they wanted.

I think they're gonna be gone after the three weeks.

It is straight gambling. You cannot grind these items in any way that is the difference. No matter how much time or money someone puts in there will never be improved odds or any guarantee of getting the item. No matter how much you play or how much you spend the odds never ever change, that is gambling. If someone wants a specific item the only option is gambling, there is no other option available. This is not about grinding it is about gambling.

Its a weird kind of gambling where you are paying money for things with absolutely no value. I have no problem with the loot crate system, because its only cosmetic stuff. You are only losing out on cool skins. Its not like yoy can sell them to anyone.
And if you dont get the cool skin while the event went on, are you going to curse at anyone you see who has it?
Does Magic the Gathering upset you? Or any other any other TCG? That literally is gambling, because the physical, rare cards you get are actually worth money.
Loot boxes are not worth getting upset over.

I really hope blizzard reconsiders their monetization strategy. Hopefully these limited edition summer skins aren't the norm. I think there is a middle ground. Maybe only the newest 2-3 sets of skins are only available in crates and after that they join the "normal" coin purchasable set and crates. People who want them first can buy special crates and people who don't like spending can save up their coins.

i want a couple of those things, but with my luck I will never get them. Ive gotten like 5 or 6 legendaries in my time playing. Most were money, and then a zarya skin and a duplicate of that skin

You have the option of buying TCG cards on the open market which is impossible here. These are items only available through gambling which does not apply to TCGs. Just because something can't be sold doesn't mean it has no value. If it it had no value then they wouldn't be offered for money in the first place.

How in the flipping hell are people actually holding players at fault for expecting that their in game currency would actually allow them to *hold your breath folks!* buy everything in game? Especially considering....

1) You can't directly buy in game currency with real world dollars. This in itself makes the in game currency more valuable which is why so many people hoard it and why so many are upset that they can't use it on any and everything.

2) Its a full priced game that came with the promise that all future content would be free even if you still needed to unlock it in game via loot boxes or what have you. As it stands, it seems these olympic lootboxes are a limited 3 week promotion that fall outside of the normal RNG loot pool the game works within such that you might not be able to unlock items with normal play.

3) The description for the lootbox on the store tells you that you can't use in game credits to buy the items that would be in the olympic lootboxes however, if you get a duplicate item from the olympic lootbox, you're given in game credit that can only be use on NON summer game items. Come the fuck on man. So even if you do whatever Blizzard stipulates for you to even get the lootboxes and then grind your ass off doing it, it's still possible you might not get all the content before the promotion is over. At this point it would be less dickish to just let people drop 10 dollars for all the summer content and call it a day.

How the fuck do you hold that kind of shit against the consumer?

I think it's extra weird that we will seemingly be able to get dupes of the limited items.
That's the most offensively fucked up thing to me. People are spending real money with a chance to get dupes. I can't believe blizzard is is that shady

Three weeks availability, 1 summer item out of 90 per box, no way to buy any of it with gold, and you can get duplicates.

Sounds great!

sounds like you should just play the game and grind it out.

stop being so cynical. life isnt about getting exactly what you want all the time.

besides, they will probably make these available again down the road in regular boxes or let you get them with coins. they arent gonna dump all this artist time into new skins and then just say "oh well its past 8/22, better delete those skins from the servers for ever!"

they will be back.

Yeah it's pretty messed up that all of the russians atlets wasn't banned considering the shit that is apparently going on over there.

I'm sure someone at Blizzard is regretting that they picked that exact skin as one of the few for the event though..

why? it is a fantastic skin

should go full throwback and go with a ussr skin
