[SPOILER THREAD] Suicide Squad

It's really really bad editing but the "squad" doesn't even know the Enchantress exists. Only the audience. We see Waller putting the squad dossiers together, and introducing the Enchantress to the Pentagon but the criminals never met her or knew anything. After the Enchantress goes rogue, they assemble the squad with Flagg in charge to rescue Waller.

None of this was made particularly clear while it was happening tho.
Well the squad did know but it was very late in the mission. After Deadshot speed-read that classified file like a champ, he threw the book at Flagg and told him to start explaining. Flagg told them who she was and how she went rogue.

Wait, they didn't know who Enchantress was?

wtf?

God this movie was bad, lol.

I thought that was obvious. Only Flagg and Waller knew who she was and what the true threat was. The Squad specifically had the job of getting Flagg close enough to Enchantress to "talk her out of" whatever she was doing, or if need be, eliminate her.

I thought the squad's only job was to get Waller out. She was HVT1 and that was it.

It's only been two days since I saw this and I can't even remember who the members of the team were other than Harley Quinn and Deadshot.

That's what they told them. THAT was where the editing messed up here.

Flagg was always supposed to be her ace in the hole to keeping Enchantress under control (alongside the heart). The latter obviously didn't work.

Would have been a more interesting movie if he was in it

Yes, I was explaining why Deadshot finding the files was such a "shock" to the team. It's because before that, they had no idea the Enchantress even existed, or that they were on a mission to fight magic beings. Lol.

Surely they know they're fihhting magic being. They saw the huge light tower from the helicopter when they first arrive at the city. Not to mention the zombies they've encountered.

Yes, but you see, that observation is done under the assumption that the script was good, and furthermore, that it wasn't hacked to death in post-production.

I just got back and the film was truly awful. The pacing and editing were all over the place, Leto's joker actively hurt the film, dialogue was rubbish and the CGI fest in the last act was total balls. It was slightly better than BvS but that isn't saying much really.

For me it's a movie that got better as it went along. Was seriously into it by the finale (El Diablo's final form!!!)

It's pretty funny how the endgame gets revealed like 30 mins in.

It's true Boomerang and Croc are kinda just there. No idea why Boomerang comes back after being characterised as not giving a shit about the mission (and boy does he regret it).

Why did Harley surrender with the rest of the squad at the end with her implant deactivated? Maybe she just wanted to stay with her new friends lol.

How the fuck doesn't anyone know anything about a big old magic blue tornado in the middle of Midway City that has been raging for apparently 3 days? Where was the Flash? Why didn't they show news flashes of zombie goon sightings and magic tentacles?

Also I wish the movie had a darker tone. When Incubus first started absorbing people "The Thing" style, that was really disturbing with the way the bodies just stick together and start rolling about. Then he just turns into generic Mummy Pharoah man.

Her portrait on the phone was Red again, implying that implant had been turned back on. I assume there was a cut scene at one point which explained this.

I assumed it was deactivated as long as the remote device was activated, but it fell down with the Joker helicopter.

It's just another crucial piece of information left on the cutting room floor.

It's highly possible there was no explanation for it.

For example, a similar level of plot silliness would be Enchantress not simply teleporting up and catching the bomb at the end (and teleporting it away.) The closest thing to an explanation we got was "Enchantress is weak because she lost her heart, even though she could teleport before without her heart and she still has enough power to make Deadshot hallucinate about his daughter." I really doubt that was due to cut content, it was just badly written.

I thought Deadshot himself hallucinated his daughter, that's how I saw the scene.

It's certainly possible, it makes much more sense if the lady who makes people hallucinate things made him hallucinate her though.

In fact that scene makes absolutely no sense if he was hallucinating it on his own.

His whole guilt with his daughter isn't about him shooting guns, it's about him murdering people for money. Everything about him shooting that explosive is heroic, so having a hallucination of his daughter trying to stop him makes absolutely no sense unless it's Enchantress doing anything she can to throw his aim off.

Suicide Squad 2...okay...

Deadshot, Harley, Boomerang, BANE, Killer Frost, Black Manta - and keep Katana, all led directly by Waller. Cut out the middlemen

Smaller cast, smaller plot, tighter action, easy.

Of course they fight Deathstroke, rather thats with Onslaught, Jihad, the League of Assassins pick one.

That's definitely a huge possibility, but I want to think that they knew about it, but just didn't include it for whatever reason.

It was definitely the Enchantress. Deadshot isn't beleaguered with visions of his daughter in the rest of the movie and typically, those kinds of visions are for the dead.

Man, the novelization is going to turn this thread into a mess.

Speaking of Katana, why was she even in the Suicide Squad?
I can only assume she also had a bunch of removed scenes but the only explanation we get of her character is that she's a vigilante who fights crime. Why would she be brought in to a team purposefully made up of dangerous people who could be disavowed at any moment. And better yet, why would she agree?

She is friend and bodyguard to Rick Flag. so guessing purely because of ties to him

I woulda loved if she was in army fatigues and gear with thw other soldiers but just happened to have a sword, but thats harder to market I guess

But shes redeemable for the sequel

An excerpt from the Suicide Squad Movie Novelization with some more dialogue that was cut in the final film
https://www.reddit.com/r/DC_Cinemat...erences_between_the_suicide_squad_theatrical/
Joker points down towards the vats.
Joker: There. I was born down there.
Harley stares down. She desperately wants the same.
Joker: Would you die for me?
Harley nods.
Harley: Yes.
Joker: No... that's too easy. Would you live for me?
Joker smiles, scaring her.
Joker: Will you embrace me, and only me?
Harley nods vigorously.
Joker: Will you bind your spirit to mine... in hate? Do you consign your soul to me? Do you laugh at the world in disgust?
Harley: ... yes.
Joker: Do not say this oath thoughtlessly. Desire becomes surrender. Surrender becomes power. Do you want it? Do you really want it?
Harley: I do. I do.
Joker: Then goodbye, Doctor Quinzel.
Joker gestures towards the edge of the vat. Without hesitation she jumps.
Joker thinks 'She's gone, forever. Problem solved'. He pauses and touches his chest. He feels something. Love? Of course not. He couldn't see her floating face down and dying. Which was the original plan. He jumps down.

Also as the heli crashes
He manages to jump out of the helicopter. The helicopter crashes into a bank building. He laughs knowing that money is burning inside. 'God, I love the smell of burning cash in the morning'.

Enjoyed it more than BvS, but that's not saying much. The whole movie seemed to stumble around from the completely clunky exposition scene having to outright explain each member to the end, and Croc and Boomerang could have been cut out entirely without much lost.

I'll give them props for trying something different, but Leto's Joker was just flat and trying too hard to be "edgy".

This did make me really, really want a Task Force X game from Rocksteady though, maybe in the spirit of X-Men Legends/Marvel Ultimate Alliance.

I honestly don't get the level of hate this film is getting. I just left the theater and the vitriol with which people discuss this movie is hilarious to me.

I think Harley was awesome. Most of the squad was cool/ok. None of them ruined the movie though. Flagg wasn't terrible even though I've seen people act like they're referencing The Room when talking about him. Joker was fine though admittedly not special. Will was fine.

I don't know. I just think there's a high level of Schadenfreude with this. It's not Civil War but it's far better than BvS and most other movies I've seen this summer (which might not be saying much I guess)

What a mess. The squad, DC Nick Fury, and Rick Flag were just incredibly boring. The plot non-sensical. Establishing the city under attack was really unclear, the squad being formed at the time Viola causes the threat, that she created the squad to solve. Her being saved, then instantly shot down (by who?) and "we have to go save her". The Jokers awkward exit from the film.

The good: nice to see Will Smith in something again. He was pretty good. Harlequin was great. I wish the writing kept her a super freak, and morally obscure as the film went along. She became too neutered a little bit.

And Joker was great. I was really critical of Leto leading up to the film, but I think people are being too finnicky on him. There was a lot of interesting stuff with him, and I think his take was separate enough from the other film adapatations of th character. Could do without the "damaged" tattoo and the odd texting in the film, but his flashback with Quin in the club, and the car chase with Batman is the stuff that works best in the film. I would watch that movie. I really like how he was framed against the other gangster he took out.

Major takeaway, as a non-fan of the SS comics, those characters sucked. Pyro, australian, katana lady, etc. Oh also think the ending was really weird. Should have had a more Blues Brothers ending, of back to the prison but they run the place and feel like they belong there. Or a sense the prisons heard about them saving Midway. Australians ending of just screaming is super weird haha.
