[SPOILER THREAD] Suicide Squad

Oh I should also add that Boomerang was a far more interesting character here than any comic I've seen him in.

Should have been Ashur like in the tv show but as long as Spartacus is represented I'm fine.

I think Harley was awesome. Most of the squad was cool/ok. None of them ruined the movie though. Flagg wasn't terrible even though I've seen people act like they're referencing The Room when talking about him. Joker was fine though admittedly not special. Will was fine.
I don't have much of a problem with Deadshot, Harley, Flag, or Waller, the movie is mostly about them. But the others -- Croc, Katana, Boomerang, and Diablo -- are kind of just there. The Joker was completely unnecessary.

Moments that are supposed to be big fall flat. Diablo turns into an Aztec god because of the power of family/friendship, but we never actually see them act like a family. It's unearned. Boomerang leaves, but then rejoins the squad for no reason. Katana, instead of joining the rest of the military when Flag reveals Waller's fuckup, she goes with the criminals, a group she despises. We don't even see her warming up to them. Because of the paper thin characters, people can ascribe all sorts of theories and traits to them to explain away these glaring errors and holes.

I wouldn't say it's because of "the power of friendship" it's just his full power, he was holding back until that moment because he's afraid of his power, he realized what he had to do and unchained it.

It's an obvious gag, you see. Katanas cut and her subplot was cut. Get it?
I'm surprised no one got this.

Such an obvious and intentional gag by the writer/director.

Just like why is Joker even in the movie? Obviously the gag is that he is in there as a joke.

They did the exact same with Killer Croc. He's the muscle, the squad member who is meant to tip the scales.

Film students will be analyzing this movie for years to come.

Worth noting, he landed next to a bunch of photos of some dad and his kids after the big brother dude knocked him into another room. Then he turned into the giant skeleton.

I guess really it could go either way but I don't think either or is particularly wrong just that maybe the power of friendship is an over simplification.

That is some great insight there. This film is truly deep.

That explains the scene more but makes the writing in the film sound worse when you see what they were going for.

Joker thinks 'She's gone, forever. Problem solved'. He pauses and touches his chest. He feels something. Love? Of course not. He couldn't see her floating face down and dying. Which was the original plan. He jumps down.

"And his small heart grew 3 sizes that day!" XD

I don't even remember who Slipknot was.

Like, at all.

I knew he was gonna die the moment they mentioned him. Everyone else got all these stylized intros and all this background information, and here comes this guy whose power is a grappling hook and got one sentence of background information, and I don't think was even mentioned in any of the trailers, like the Electrocutioner in Arkham Origins.

And Deadshot is relevant because this movie was shot dead by critics!

So meta!

Really, the amount of straight vitriol for this film is a bit surprising. There's a ton of stuff I didn't like about it, but it was just disappointingly okay, unlike BvS which I found to be a humorless and miserable experience.

Just left the the theater.

It was okay. Better than BVS in my opinion.

Joker was useless other than to set up Harley. I don't like this take on Joker, but I'll wait for the next movie when he is hopefully more fleshed out to have a full opinion.

Slipknot was there only to show they'll actually kill a SS member who disobeys.

Killer Croc was pointless. He grunts and has one swim scene that reminded me of the ending of Fallout 3 before the dlc retcon. He could have initiated the bomb and probably lived but whatever.

El Diablo was there to be powerhouse in the pocket. His story should have been elaborated more.

Katana was whatever. Seriously. She offered nothing.

Boomerang was pointless even if his few lines were funny.

Flag feels like a character where they really tried writing him well and then half way through said fuck it. The actor that played him was a bad choice.

Enchantress....ugh. Could have been cool but I seriously got a Ghost Busters vibe from her. (Old GB. Haven't seen the new one)

Leaving Harley and Deadshot. It was their movie. Which I'm more than okay with. They had decent chemistry. I do wish Harley was a bit crazier but that may be just my taste. Also, I have to wonder how good would Deadshot have been if Will Smith didn't play him.

Man I didn't know what to expect but I was shocked at how lazy this movie was. Again with the stack of files and montage clips? And on top of that a nonexistent plot? There are some good moments but this is a rough movie with absolutely no ambition.

Just saw the movie and liked it. Didn't love it as much as BvS, but that's to be expected. It was fun and enjoyable throughout. Liked the characters, visuals, and the sound design. All pretty great. Will Smith was awesome. Honestly I think it's a pretty solid 8/10 movie.

Ok, so this is my issue with the movie's dialogue and characters in a nutshell. I like WHAT is being said, I can't stand HOW it's being said. The idea of the Joker doing these things and feeling these things is perfect, it's just, the actual dialogue is so mediocre. You can tell this was a script that was done in just 6 weeks, because it's fucking awful.

Will and Harley saved the film. Boomerang was completely unnecessary. I guess it was nice that the Enchantress lady survived, but given her small amount of screen time, I didn't really care. Took ages to get any use out of Croc. Katana was....there.

Also the editing and pacing was the worst I've seen since Warcraft.

Deadshot and Harley were the only two characters that got to be anything other than a shitty trope. Every single other character in the movie is thin and has no motivation at all. Katana could be cut (zing!) from the movie and nothing would be lost other than Harley needing a different weapon to cut out the Enchantress' heart. Killer Croc is a gangsta now? Joker was barely even in the movie for me to have an opinion on him.

Also did anything happen to the one head guard from the first half of the movie? I expected him to get his dues but don't recall that going anywhere.

You could excise Croc, Boomerang, Katana, Slipknot, Diablo, and Joker from the movie without changing that much. Hell, get rid of the entire Suicide Squad because the villain was defeated using bombs.

When we gonna get gifs of the villain chick doing her stupid dancing while talking to camera?

I actually liked that, it reminded me of that creepy jittery thing some horror movies do for their monster which went well cus Enchantress was creepy as hell.

She reminded me of Aaliyah in Queen of the Damned

oh fuck off.

are people relly reducing the final fight to "using bombs"?

Yup. Incubus is defeated by a bomb. Enchantress' portal is defeated by a bomb. Everything could have been handled by a black ops team since deniability, the squad's raison d'etre, wasn't a factor

The bomb wouldn't have killed him if it wasn't for Diablo melting most of his chest away. I thought it was pretty clear that Diablo weakened him which allowed the bomb to finish him off.

There was a fucking special team and was killed

the rason deuinreiuhfsf, was amanda waller knowing that a special force team wouldnt be enough to rescue her, REMEMBER? she was in middle of the fucking city?! thats why the squad was used, she wasnt going to risk being killed there.

there is no point in arguing, people are hating just for hating

Incubus was already shown to be able to regenerate. I don't think he was really weakened, but the bomb did the work. Diablo was keeping him distracted.

The squad barely did anything the special forces weren't able to. The only spectacular thing that happened was when Diablo used his fire on the mooks, but it wasn't like those things were difficult to kill if Harley Quinn could take them on.

You don't think his chest being melted off, him falling and Diablo keeping him in place weakened him? The movie has a lot of issues but this isn't one of them.

now you see, a special team ops could have done that. OBVIOUSLY

there were like 3 teams and were wiped out, the only ones who got to amanda was the Squad with the villians

I don't remember Incubus falling. It's been a couple of days since I saw it. But no, I don't think Incubus was weakened for the bomb to work. Diablo was there just to hold him in place, not to weaken him.

There were three teams sent after her? I guess I missed some stuff while I was laughing at the movie. Still, up until they save her, the squad really do anything the military couldn't do.

But...his whole chest melted off and then a bomb blew up right into his open chest.

How is a chest falling off not something that weakens someone?

  • Will was good in this.
  • Margot was fine for the most part but her comedic timing is bad and the jokes written for her were also bad.
"That's a killer app" was a terrible joke delivered terribly. The same goes for all of her jokes.
  • Viola was great
  • I liked Leto's Joker. He just needed some better content to work with. He has a bunch of 30 second to a minute long scenes that don't go anywhere. I want to see him in the solo Batman film.
  • Rick Flagg aka Exposition Man. When he wasn't explaining shit he was the movie equivalent of this

    RE4screenshot7.jpg

Harley is beating off the zombies with a bat but this trained special forces guy gets swarmed and dragged off twice.
  • Diablo wasn't bad. His Gods of Egypt form was weird but other than that I didn't have a problem with him.
  • Killer Croc doesn't do or say much for most of the movie until the bar scene rolls around and he turns into a bad gangsta stereotype. BET? Really breh?
  • Jai Courtney was bleh as fuck.
  • Katana practically doesn't exist for 99% of the run time.
  • Slipknot doesn't deserve mentioning.
  • Enchantress had a bunch of set up only for her to stand in front of her "machine" dancing to Drake's Controlla for most of the movie.
  • Incubus became Destroyer from Thor after his introduction which was cool.

With all that said I didn't hate it. Completely understandable to see the movie as pure garbage if those things really bothered you though.
