[SPOILER THREAD] Suicide Squad

It was a decent movie to say the least. Definately better then BvS. Sure it has a few areas where it needed tweaks but i think it was a solid 7/10 movie. Jokers cameo didnt do anything for me, infact he was cringe worthy, but aside from that it was sum good mindless fun.

With Iron Man, what all can they do? Thor ain't around, SHIELD is probably trying to find him, Banner can maybe call Pepper on the phone but that's about it.

Thor 2's climax happens in about 15 minutes and I don't know that Thor has figured phones out just yet, let alone knows Tony Stark's or Nick Fury's cell number.

Cap or Widow literally can't make a single call without giving themselves away, or putting their team at risk. Hydra would of course be monitoring all likely communications to Tony etc.

And hell, it doesn't even seem like they were all hanging out until just before Age of Ultron.

Still flimsy, but by necessity

Yah. Both Stark and Roger went off the grid in their respective movies, so its not like they could establish communication with anyone, especially Thor and Hulk. And nobody outside of SHIELD/Hydra know Roger was on the run until shit hits the fan too.

This SS case occurred over 3 long days.

Flash showing up was so good.

I NEED that Flash movie.

That part felt really underwhelming. Maybe it's me not liking how crazy over-fucking-done the lightning effect on Flash is done compared to the show, but I was it was more showing off his speed than just appearing in a tiny instant.

Also just about all of Batman's appearances in this were so fucking awkward. He just kinda clumsily floats down in this badly edited, poorly acted, poorly staged flashback. Like, if you're going to do a first appearance of Batman in your movie, do something cool. Have a shot looking down onto Deadshot and his daughter from up on a rooftop, only to see a silhouetted Batman in the foreground. Something more dramatic than floating down and standing there while this terrible child actor tries spouting her lines.

It just occurred to me that I don't actually understand what was happening in the scene where Harley goes into the chemicals. Presumably it's something Joker did before, so he knows it won't kill her. So he convinces her to do it, but then why does he look conflicted before he jump in after her? It'd make sense if it wasn't for that bit because it'd just mean he wanted her to go through what he did to show her dedication to him.

It's Harley's 'baptism'

he wanted her to die, because she was a loose end but then realise he actually cares about her

That would make no sense. Why the speech before? Why have her die doing the thing he himself has done knowing it didn't kill him?

I think it's just a "fuck it, I wanna be in there too." Maybe he got impatient and didn't want to wait for her to emerge on her own.

That could be it. They've done a terrible job if so.

what? joker is playing with harley quinn because he doesnt care for her, he just used her to escape arkham asylum.

thats why he ask if she would die for him, because he doesnt give a fuck, but then, he realise he does give a fuck and jumps.

Flash doesn't become Flash because of Batman. He's doing his own thing already.

Batman is in Gotham City. Most of this movie takes place in Midway City.

Ah OK, that kind of makes sense. Flash turns up to take out a diamond theif, but fucks off during an end of the world disaster.

well that's a probelm with every superhero cinematic universe and comics in general..they are all supposed to live in the same world, they are able to be everywhere at will, but they still decide to no show eve, in world threatening situations..letting only the titular superhero tuu deal with it

also there's to say that whatever happened in that city was not pubblicly disclosed..even the protagonist weren't aware of what it was happening, officially it was a "terrorist attack"

So in setting it up all he really wanted was for her to die, meaning it's just a contrivance that by doing it with the chemical it gave the end result of her being bleached white like him?

Horrible, why not just make it that he does care for her (for whatever reason - genuine love or because he loves that she is in his thrall) and wants her to prove it by jumping? All they'd need to do is cut him the bit with him looking conflicted and it would have been fine.

On The Flash, I assume (and Justice League teaser kind of suggests) that he isn't operating in the open so not like Waller can just call him up

Assume same reason he didn't show up for the Doomsday fight

As I'm sure someone said before, upon reflecting more, I think the core problem is that Suicide Squad should be about off-books secret covert ops that the good guys won't touch. This movie really has none of that, which makes the whole thing sort of fall flat because these characters are out of place in this plot.

Uh, not really. The way the film is laid out is exactly how Suicide Squad works. Forced to take on high stakes suicide missions that often stop being so covert once you cease to suspend disbelief, and where the good guys aren't around for comic book reasons... You're supposed to just roll with it.

Yeah, that appearance was really weird. Batman floats down on some wires and just stands in front of Deadshot. I have no idea what his plan was, considering that Deadshot could've instantly killed him if his daughter didn't intervene.

I would've been great if we saw how terrifying Batman was from a criminal's perspective. Have him appear out of nowhere and seem like a force of nature. Instead he just looks like a goofball in a suit. It honestly looked like something from Kick Ass.

I really liked the scene at ACE Chemicals tbh, Leto played it right if they're going for something a bit more than the general Stockholm Syndrome thing

That's when it was. I think it was when Flag was talking to Deadshot, he asks if he got to the part where they were sleeping together and Deadshot responds pointing out "so that's why there were always after you". It doesn't give a clear reason why she was always after him, but my thinking was so she could get rid of him to prevent June from taking control ever again.

I was looking for a clear reason, because right now, it could be what you said or something else since this movie gives so little and leaves a lot on the floor.

Nah, they're right. It was detailed in the novelization:

An excerpt from the Suicide Squad Movie Novelization with some more dialogue that was cut in the final film
https://www.reddit.com/r/DC_Cinemat...erences_between_the_suicide_squad_theatrical/

Joker points down towards the vats.
Joker: There. I was born down there.
Harley stares down. She desperately wants the same.
Joker: Would you die for me?
Harley nods.
Harley: Yes.
Joker: No... that's too easy. Would you live for me?
Joker smiles, scaring her.
Joker: Will you embrace me, and only me?
Harley nods vigorously.
Joker: Will you bind your spirit to mine... in hate? Do you consign your soul to me? Do you laugh at the world in disgust?
Harley: ... yes.
Joker: Do not say this oath thoughtlessly. Desire becomes surrender. Surrender becomes power. Do you want it? Do you really want it?
Harley: I do. I do.
Joker: Then goodbye, Doctor Quinzel.
Joker gestures towards the edge of the vat. Without hesitation she jumps.
Joker thinks 'She's gone, forever. Problem solved'. He pauses and touches his chest. He feels something. Love? Of course not. He couldn't see her floating face down and dying. Which was the original plan. He jumps down.

I also think it's dumb, but that's what it was meant to be.

This guy saw a screening of the movie back in May

The early screening i saw seems to be more cohesive and story orientated.
So this is in no way me saying that Suicide Squad is bad because it isn't!
I loved it but the early screening was just better.
So I'll be doing a description and comparison between the two
SPOILERS SO DON'T BITCH
It opens with Amanda in the restaurant and she is listing off the squad and she starts with Harley and Joker
Harleen comes into Arkham Asylum and is quickly assigned to the joker.
She was reluctant at first cause she was scared of him but she quickly was able to get over her fears and fall in love with him.
In the film Joker does have feelings for Harley but says he isnt good at showing emotions he prefers to use his fists or guns.
That's when he asks her for a machine gun and she refuses.
He then threatens her to kill her and hurt her and is trying to intimidate hee but you can see on her face that she isn't afraid of him anymore.
She leans in and kisses him across the table and tells him she'll get him what he needs and all he says is good, I have my boys coming they'll be here soon. I'll be sure to tell them to spare you, maybe.
Cut to a couple of hours later and all these men rush in and start killing all the doctors and say to go find Mr J
Harley comes in and let's him loose and gives him his gun and he says no doll face I like making these men go night night, kisses her and grabs a bat and goes through the asylum and beats everyone with a wooden boat that would become Harley's bat.
They then cut through all the other Squad members and their backstories.
It showed how Boomerang made all his Boomerangs like knives and the camera boomerang and it was just HILARIOUS.

Killer Croc is a true Croc, living in a swamp, mutated but swimming on shore and going into his swamp side home with raw meat hanging around and a big lazy boy couch.
With Joker appearing sporadically, bit always dealing with the main plot from the background. In the early screening he kills Griggs because he heard that he was making the moves on Harley and he slices him up with a butcher's knife. And he is covered in blood and walks out and just screams. "GET ME MY HARLEY"
Cut to Diablo living with his family and goes out and does deals and is a real gang member until he gets caught by his wife and accidentally sets the house on fire killing his kids and wife. They then put him in jail and that's where he burns all the other inmates in a prison riot.
Deadshot is pretty untouched, besides a couple more lines if dialogue he doesn't have much cut from the theatrical release.
And we see more of Katana's backstory.
The movies moves on relatively untouched until we get to the bar scene
The bar scene was more about the Squad and not just Diablo and Deadshot. They were all talking about how they all ended up in the bar. Each talking about their lives and their powers and how it effects them.

We then cut to the joker and Harley having a fight in their apartment and Joker storms out leaving Harley crying and she gets pissed and gets her motorcycle and follows him onto the highway and threatens to shoot him in the head if he doesn't stop being a prick. He then slaps her and tells her that this is how he can show her his love. They then kiss and ride around for a bit until joker gets the idea to make her more like him thats when they go to Ace Chemicals and that's when the original Alex Ross style costumes come in and we see them dance and it looks GORGEOUS.
Joker and Harley are then in their penthouse and Harley asks who Joker loves the most and he says the one person who makes me the happiest and the furious and she gets excited and hops on his lap and he stands and screams THE BAT. I miss our old squabbles I miss how angry he got! You remember the good old days Harley! When we took care of that little birdy! And it cuts to Batman holding Joker by the collar as a building is on fire in the background (probably Wayne manor) and he says you've crossed the line i'm gonna hurt you joker. And his response is "Not the face! I damage easily!" And it cuts back to the bar scene
Then the film continues on until they reach the end then joker shows up with half his face burned by the helicopter crash and tells Harley that it's been a rough night and to come home with daddy! And Deadshot shoots at him as joker goes on a tirade talking about how he's the king of Gotham and how he broke the bat and none of them even came close! He then drops the smoke grenade and leaves. Then the film moves on the same. And the ending where Joker breaks out Harley was added to the official release which I liked

post from May where he says
So after seeing Suicide Squad I can honestly say Jared killed it literally.
Jared was amazing! You'll forget everything about Heath and Nicholson. He redefines the character and really makes it his own. He is the best on-screen joker. He took a lot of influence from Mark Hamill I believe.
I never had ANY doubts with films like Mr. Nobody and Dallas Buyers Club which he was amazing in I knew he would bring the real Joker to life and that's EXACTLY what he did
So if you have any doubts don't worry he's incredible.

Yeah, theres a few pics that back up a few of those descriptions:

Still, who knows how true that all is or if its some dude just conjecturing based on released stills and media and other impressions from early screenings.

That certainly sounds wildly different, and that might make the movie a bit better but it'd likely get them in some deep shit
I wonder how much the reasoning was tied to BvS being too dark rather than in actuality being afraid of the backlash by the PCP

I really didn't expect this movie to be this bad, and I quite liked BvS.

I mean, the movie is basically a generic third person shooter campaign. Shooting, shooting, shooting, cutscene, shooting, shooting, shooting, cutscene, shooting, final boss.

Jesus.
