If your system exceeds the minimum requirements, go for the PC version; if it doesn't, go for the PS4 version. Should the former happen to be terrible for one reason or another, at least on Steam you'll have a two-week window post-release within which to claim a refund (provided you don't play more than two hours).

Thing is, the game is about 200SEK cheaper retail (here in Sweden at least) for PC than buying it on straight Steam :)

PC Digital prices for big games really are shit on Steam compared to retail.

Quickly nipped home on my lunch break to check if there was any progress. That's me updated to version 1.03.

Now I wait.

Servers just wipe your discoveries. You're progress will be saved and items and such.

Oh cool! I might just carry on, then. I'm not too attached to my discoveries (yet).

Early impressions:

- Game is absolutely astonishing, haters like the troll guy on that other thread need to get used to the taste of feathers.

- Got the frame-rate horribly wrong due to playing on a much better-res TV I wasn't used to. It's 30.

- Ship scanning is great.

- More ships come in to dock at stations, more frequently than pre-patch.

- Pop in whilst cruising a planet is DRASTICALLY reduced from pre-patch. It's still there but minimal. Game looks amazing.

- Pre patch was around 30-40fps I think. Post patch is 60. Game is butter.

I really doubt a patch can almost double the fps. They probably made the framerate more stable.

I've been waiting to post this for a long time. Timing isn't accurate, but China don't care.

One more sleep!

Everybody just ignoring 2010: The Year We Make Contact.

It has actually aged way better than 2001.

Hahaha I actually only watched it for the first time earlier this year..
I thought it was a very well done movie (especially compared to 90% of Hollywood's trash) and provided some much needed answers to 2001.

But yeah, hard act to follow the best movie ever made ;)

I think its obvious that its an unlocked framerate. Seems to be a 50/50 split of people saying 60 and 30, and that doesnt happen if it is either one of them.

Agreed on all these apart from framerate. It does feel great but I'm not convinced it's completely 60fps.

Also a little tip about your discoveries.... Discover as many plants and animals as you can now and upload them to get credits. Then when the servers get wiped they all won't be for nothing.

It was locked 30 before. No tearing or stuttering at all. Interested to hear more post patch impressions. Seems odd to double the frame rate while also increasing draw distance etc.

So good. Have you noticed any change in the abundance or lack thereof of life, both fauna and flora, on the planets you've visited? Any impressions on caves post-patch?

This guy is on a moon with a very striking red/white theme. Red trees and water and the ground white. Orange, reddish sky.

Well, if the game is being sourced outside of Steam, then, yeah, it'd be best to wait for impressions.

It's definitely better than pre-patch, is the main thing.

I cant believe how much they improved the LOD "pop-in", its a HUGE difference. They didnt simply push it further back or anything like that, the lower levels of LOD are much more accurate than before, which makes the transitions into higher levels much less jarring and noticable. Everything fades in extremely smooth now, i honestly didnt think it would be that much improved, and they still plan to make more improvements.

Great OT! Well done.

I've made an error, arranged to go and see Suicide Squad with a friend ages ago, this Wednesday eve; forgot NMS doesn't launch til the 10th here in the UK. Was going to grab it at lunchtime, then play the crap out of it that eve, but not now! Now it will be sitting in my bag calling to me until I can get it home around 10pm.

Nevermind. The wait continues!

Question about the PS4 and it's cross region stuff.

So I pre ordered a copy from the US PSN store, it's now downloading, but none of the pre-order things (ship, avatars etc) will download, they just say "Download error"

Anyone know why this is?, is it because I brought it from the US store?

Yup. When I was playing it on my lunch break I noticed a big difference in LOD pop in. Also I mentioned in a previous post above that I could tell that they have done stuff with the atmosphere for the planets. I thought I was looking at some sort of northern lights on my first planet earlier. Then I realised it was clouds whirling around that were green. Looked so cool.

The game is digital only on PC (Var köper du en fysisk utgåva i sverige?)

There is no "hard copy" for the PC version, unless you count the $150 version on iam8bit.

I think it's still 30fps. (I've got a copy). Pop in dramatically improved, different styles of space station, better variety of ships and allowing you to carry more materials per slot is a huge improvement.

Got that Amazon shipping notice

I am craving that notice. Due to their warehouses being nearby, I always get them later, but so antsy!

That kind of stuff seems much the same to me, but it's difficult to tell. The patch notes say they improved the variety early-game, but it's one of those things that's really hard to guage and is different for everyone. My first planets post-patch though have been awesome.

Caves are awesome and sometimes enormous. Pre-patch I found an entire mountain that was basically hollow, so it was already great before.

Wife and kids go away for 10 days just after this comes out. Can't wait to have an entire weekend Fri night - Sunday night veging out with this game and ordering takeaways delivered!

This sounds very good. The biggest issue with how the LOD changes looked before was how different the various LOD levels looked in terms of terrain shape, etc, which made the transitions very jarring. Very glad to hear that's been smoothed out.

I always thought that thats the point of 2001. Not knowing everything and make your own opinions on movies events. AKA pretty much Stanley Kubricks whole film making history.
Have not seen 2010 btw. I will give it a try!

That's great, thanks very much for the reply. Fuck I am hyped lads!

That's a long flight!

Anyone else a bit "emotional" that NMS is finally coming out tomorrow?

It's been a very long journey for some of us.

On-board since the reveal. December 2013. That seems like a lifetime ago based on what's gone on in my life since then.

Same for me really. My first planet pre-patch was lush with life, and caves etc.

Now post-patch I've been landed onto a new ranom planet that is radioactive and barren of most life-forms. But has some awesome caves.

But as you say, It's hard to gauge due to the randomness of the game itself.

How prevalent is life overall, would you say? Earlier they said 90% of all planets would be barren, 10% would have some life, and 10% of those (so 1%) would be lush garden worlds. Is this still the case? From what I've read it seems like life is much more common than these numbers would suggest.

I hope there are no issues with the PC release, the delayed (albeit only a few days) release date has me a little concerned, and I haven't heard much about it. Am I just being paranoid?
