R U Mine is still my favorite. Solid album, but there is no voice in me begging to play it again, which is what I was hoping for.
Play it a couple more times and you won't resist.

I love like 10 out of 12 tunes in this album, cot damn.

No. 1 Party Anthem seems to be my favourite so far.

I'm watching their iTunes Festival show. Even though I prefer their newer stuff, Alex Turner is such a try hard these days. He is forcing himself so much to be the coolest dude of his "town" lol I remember back in 2008/9, when Humbug came out and he was trying to look like a shy stoned, always wondering guy. He is acting way too much

Kinda true. His stage persona makes me laugh sometimes. The way his tone and accent changes from singing to speaking is too much. But I find it mostly endearing.

Btw spoiler,
he forgot the lyrics to 505, haha.

I only liked their first 2 albums

I can't listen to their first these days. I get the feeling that they were less aware of what they were doing and more natural when they did their first two albums - which is, surely, a good thing. It definitely has a more "sincere" sound, if you know what I mean. That explains how some people prefer their older stuff and their newer albums are more controversial, in some way.

However, I prefer the more mysterious Humbug (the second half, mainly) and the perfected sound of Favorite Worst Nightmare. I like Suck It and See, too, and the influences they put on the new one.

I've been an Arctic Monkeys fan since the first album. I just bought AM having listened to only one song (the one on iTunes before the album release) and didn't quite know what to expect after Suck It And See. Listened to AM once, then again, and again, and again, and again, all the way through. This one's simply amazing. Favourite Worst Nightmare was my previous favorite album of theirs, but AM has easily surpassed it for me. "Snap Out Of It" needs to be a single.

NME gave it a ten. I can't take them seriously after they gave Daft Punk's latest a perfect score. And they call AM potentially the best album of the last decade.

I feel that NME is biased anyway when it comes to British bands, same goes for Pitchfork and obscure shit.

Giving albums grades is silly imo. Just give them 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 stars.

Album is awesome and this band has really come into their own and found their sound. They killed it when they opened for the Black Keys. My guess is R U Mine will finally put them on the map in the US the way Tighten Up did for The Black Keys. I do find it sad how many people are unaware of Rubber Factory. By far their best album

Stars comes down to the same in the end. You just can't really rate albums at all. It's different for everyone.

And Pitchfork gave it an 8.0. It's the highest scoring Monkeys album on there so far. That annoying Youtube hipster gave it a 3 because it's too flat for rock 'n roll. I guess it never crossed his mind that this album isn't just about rock.

this album is quite boring to me, and it's 2 in a row from them that I haven't enjoyed

their first 3 are great though, and Humbug is still my favorite

I don't see a problem with rating albums, readers just have to understand that it's subjective.

I like what I'm hearing, glad I still was able to get tickets for their gig in Brussels.

Arctic Monkeys gig and 2 weeks later QOTSA gig, beautiful combo.

Album starts very strongly, then tapers off a little... but as a whole it's still growing on me after 4-5 listens, which is a promising sign.

I really like Suck It and See, for what it's worth, and AM feels like a natural progression from that.

So damn good.

At first listen I thought it was only ok, but now I think it's possibly their best album. Possibly.

Do I Wanna Know is a sultry little tune. Humbug is still their best album, hopefully this album grows on me because after 1 listen, I am mostly indifferent.

Know who you're talking about before even checking.

Edit@ OMG he hates R U Mine and Arabella. What a moron.

Knee Socks is brilliant, can't stop listening to it.
This is possibly my highlight.

I love Fireside too.

Fantastic record boys.

I know the guy, I've watched more of his reviews. Or at least tryed to, but he's just trying too hard. But hey, good for him there are people interested in that but I'll just stay away.

Have to add that I don't care to much for journalism or bloggers in general.

After a couple of listens it's a good album, it's probably missing another up-tempo number, but Turner is a better writer of the slower oft-kilter love song than anything else and when the Monkeys go up-tempo they drift towards dad rock if they're not careful about it.

Arabella and no 1 party anthem are the two standout tracks for me, although that may just be because R U Mine and Do I wanna know are a bit old hat for me atm.

I like the album overall but the second half I find to be completely unremarkable. Suck It And See surprised me because it did the whole 'sugary pop song'-thing really well. The piano ballads on AM are super lame in comparison and the constant unison overdubs are a little tacky.

I love it.

Fireside is when, but I don't think there is any I hate on there, I think I don't really love the No. 1 Party anthem song, but nothing is skip always material.

Love putting their whole catalogue on random though to be honest.

Only 3 pages for this? Does GAF have a general dislike for this band? I thought they were huge everywhere.

Love the new album by the way.

You won't find many bigger fans of the Arctics than I but I am still a bit on the fence after listening for a few weeks. Just not terribly impressed on the whole. It feels plodding to me for much of it.

If I were to list my fav Monkey's album I'd probably say

Humbug
Suck it and See
WPSIATWIM
AM
Favourite Worst Nightmare

I actually like them all though. None of them are what you would consider bad albums.

Album is awesome like all of their materials. All songs are good to great and none of them make me reach for my smartphone for a skip. Played it while heavily making out with my girlfriend and the next day she asked me what album was playing, she digs it too. Album is a winner IMHO.

...yup, I was thinking the same thing.
Hi Gaf, your Slowpoke Monkey here.

What does everybody think three years later? Anyone else missing them terribly?

I actually still really like the album, though it's what I was introduced to them on. Favourites are Humbug and Favorite Worst Nightmare though.

Do I Wanna Know is the best rock song of the past 5 years.

Adore it even now.

Arctic Monkeys are much more consistent than I expected after the first album or so.

Bummer that Last Shadow Puppets couldn't get anywhere near the quality of the first album.

Didn't even realize it's been three years. I still think it's a solid album, albeit a bit safe. I hope they plan to release a new album next year or so. The new album from The Last Shadow Puppets eases the wait time.

This is what I get for not paying slightest attention to the scene.
