Donald Trump suggests 2nd Amendment Folks do something about Hillary

I just have to keep reminding myself of this...

... This guy isn't running for local city office. Not state office. Not a congressional or senatorial position. He's running for PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES and he IS the candidate for the Republican party.

Even with no experience.
Even with no awareness of current events.
Even with no feasibly clear plans or goals.
Even with rhetoric that is blatantly racist, violent, misogynistic, and Unconstitutional.

And the GOP has lined up behind him anyway, because they're a total mess.

Can someone check on Paul Ryan? Is he okay? Does he need someone to talk to?
I think this is him.

Long term, I can't imagine that having "2nd amendment people" become synonymous with "someone who would maybe assassinate a political figure" is good for the NRA crowd.

Well, one of the big arguments that people have for the second amendment is that it allows civilians to rise up against a tyrannical government...

I just took it as him saying they should get together and vote against her.

Forgive me if I'm getting this wrong because American politics aren't my thing, but in the context of her "choosing her judges", isn't this a scenario where she's already president? To me it sounded like he was straight-up advocating getting her shot.

The Detroit Free Press is tired of this shit.

Detroit Free Press said:
On Tuesday, Trump's campaign put out a statement that tried to shift the blame for the outcry over the remarks made in North Carolina – like Michigan, a battleground state – on what it called "dishonest media," though his comments were accurately reported, according to video of the event.

The bold makes 100% perfect sense.

Let me try ...

The Republicans plan to keep the House and Senate, so they'll just impeach Hillary and remove her from office day 1 if she wins?

The only semi rational argument that I could maybe buy is that Trump is so incoherent that he can't choose the order of his words correctly but even that falls apart in the context of everything else he's pulled

In retrospect, I think he indeed did mean that '2nd Amendment people' doing something about it meant that the NRA should in effect defy the will of the people and interfere in our government. Still, it could easily be interpreted by the fools that listen to him as a call to violence. In any case, it's still one of his greatest hits.

He didn't say the "2nd amendment people". He said "with the 2nd amendment". There are no people here, they don't exist, that is spin.

With guns, you can do something about it.

You can shoot people.

You can argue that he wasn't necessarily talking about shooting Clinton, or the judges. But he was saying the problem could be solved by shooting somebody.

If he didn't mean it, he should back down and apologise. If he can't do that and wins, the world is fucked. Wars start on less.

Wow, Corey Lewandowski is insufferable. I never thought you could get worse than Jeffery Lord, but Christ almighty!

Get him the hell off of CNN.

It's all over the German media as well. People are completely horrified by the hate-mongering amped up to 11. In a sane country, this would mean the definitive end for his campaign but half the US resemble an insane asylum these days. Absolutely frightening... especially if he is allowed to continue like that. It will take decades to heal the damage he has already caused to society.

this article was written three weeks ago but suddenly feels even more important now.

http://www.haaretz.com/world-news/u-s-election-2016/1.732387

"GOP Convention's Clinton Hate Fest Could Turn Lethal
Christie has convicted her of heinous crimes and Carson of sympathy for the devil. Such words can kill, as Israelis recall after the public vitriol that preceded Yitzhak Rabin's '95 assassination."

On point. Great article:

Like the extreme right in Israel, many Republicans conveniently ignore the fact that words can kill. There are enough people with a tendency for violence that cannot distinguish between political stagecraft and practical exhortations to rescue the country by any available means. If anyone has doubts, they could use a short session with Yigal Amir, Yitzhak Rabin’s assassin, who was inspired by the rabid rhetoric hurled at the Israeli prime minister in the wake of the Oslo Accords. After Rabin was gone, the inciters washed their hands and denied responsibility. One of them did so persuasively that he became prime minister himself, though the incitement itself never stopped.

Do you really have to think before ordering an assassination tho.

Like, does anyone really almost order an assassination but then stop and think hmm maybe I shouldn't order an assassination.

Well, all he knows is he has an audience that will be receptive to that kind of "joke" so he makes it. He has done it before. He just doesn't care.

They need to watch Trump surrogates spinning themselves into oblivion trying to defend it.

Yeah lol at Gulliani and the "he was talking about voting" shit. How does that make sense when Trump was talking about a scenario where Clinton was already President?

No, he said 'the 2nd Amendment people', which still can easily be interpreted as people who bear arms (and have an unhinged hatred for Democrats), and of course insinuating that they would use violence. I'm inclined to believe he is referring to the NRA and maybe also the gun rights voting bloc. I think he's saying that a special interest group is or should be ("maybe there is (something they can do), I don't know") more powerful than the people or the government.

Yes, he was suggesting that if he lost, the elected President of the United States "maybe" should be shot.

Some great comments from people on LA Times:

I'm speechless!
You know these same people would be up in arms (no pun intended) if Hillary had made a similar statement about Trump.

I feel like there should be an advent calendar leading up to the election. Open one square each day to reveal a new stupid thing Trump says.

Just think if Hillary Clinton said this she would be decimated. Say goodbye to the presidency and hello to your next POTUS Donald Trump.

Donald Trump could literally kill someone on TV and nearly half the nation would love him for it. -_-

Paul Ryan has a speech to give tonight, likely a primary victory speech.

Would be nice if he used the moment to withdraw support for Trump and suggest he exit the race.

It's gone so far beyond unacceptable.

Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush, John Kasich, John McCain and Marco Rubio should all get together and endorse Gary Johnson. They can't continue to support this apocalyptic candidate.
