So is like Destiny?
I am trying to figure out what's happening. The title of the stream is "Getting warp fuel to get back to sadcactus"
Last night one of them jumped and didn't have enough to get back.
The naming stuff is linked to online too so if they were offline when they named stuff last night, maybe their data didn't upload.
Because the fact that nobody knows is a problem. People would like it answered. If the developers just put a quick Tweet online with it, then it is over. But they don't for some reason.
Earlier in this thread you said it is there. Now you say it isn't. So what do you think actually?
He said that exact thing ages ago when he was still saying you can run into and see other players. He said 'single player really, but yeah you'll run into other people who can see you!'Right why do people go by old information is literally 2 days ago that is what the guy said. Ive never even thought of this game as being multiplayer. I just dont understand where all of this was lost in translation.
He said in interviews that players could kill each other. He also said that we could see other players, but he was pretty clear that the possibility was next to zero. He probably thought people wouldn't get the ability to try this in such a massive universe. Now people have caught him lying, and he simply refuses to give us a straight answer, and he probably won't. This shouldn't go unnoticed by the community.
Please post your source. Why are people still defending or claiming "we don't know yet"?
It's simple. Game does NOT have any kind of MP. The only thing that's "online" is uploading your own planet and discovering other planets uploaded by others.
Me personally isn't saying he is lying right now, just that his messaging is poor as hell.
We don't know if he was lying or something else is the issue.
I don't see how players could possible meet. From a technical standpoint, it would be an absolutely massive undertaking.
Planets need to be hosted locally. There's no way they can afford to host millions of server instances for a game that is 99.9% single player according to probabilities.
I would assume that each planet discovery gets saved server side and the local instance synchronizes with the server at some point. But how much data actually synchronizes? Probably just basic things such as species names. If be surprised if terrain deformation is synchronized because then all of that data would have to be stored server side.
Can you imagine how much data it would take to store millions of planet sized instances complete with terrain deformation? I don't even think Petabytes of storage would be enough.
Logic tells me that planets are simply stored as a random seed which is used by the local client to generate the actual instance. Beyond that, only basic things such as species names are stored server side.
No. He did not say people met up. He said "Two players finding each other in the first day"
Isn't he 18 quintillion thing referencing the universe? Why are we looking at just one galaxy? Unless I'm misunderstanding and there is only 1 galaxy in the game.
Are we expecting nuanced opinions of entitled gamers now?
We don't know if he was lying or something else is the issue.
This guy is worst than Donald Trump.
I'm going to be really curious to see what Sean's first tweet of the day will be after all the drama over night. If his first tweet does not directly address this issue that will be epic.
for fucks sakeThis guy is worst than Donald Trump.
Studio is in the UK, so this was going on while it is day there.I'm going to be really curious to see what Sean's first tweet of the day will be after all the drama over night. If his first tweet does not directly address this issue that will be epic.
Don't let him weasel out of answering this one, he is clearly hell bent on stopping any negative discussion, had Sean lied or not.

A short aside:
This reminds me very much of the Destiny "you see those mountains? you can go there" debacle. People were linking interviews about overstated promises/features, and the reality of what was released. The defense on Gaf was also verrry similar. It was also along the lines of "things change in game development," or "it's not even a big deal, why do you even care? get over it" or "I don't see how that's dishonest/shady."
It's weird that some gamers go through such lengths to defend a game they like. You can love a game and be critical of the devs behind it. It's not hard. And just like Destiny, this comes down to a lack of communication up until launch.
Sean said for years that this game had multiplayer functionality where you can see other players and play with your friends, and then he tweets that this is a single player game mere hours before the game release and that means we were all stupid for expecting multiplayer functionality?
I honestly don't get this logic.
We ARE playing together, with our friends, online, in separate instances within the same galaxy-server. Sean has never lied about that fact. And that falls under the "Online" stickers on the boxes.

Guys, it's coming in the Day 30 patch. Reviewers should wait till review it till then.
So... has he given a definitive "yes" or "no" response, or is he dodging-and-weaving with the best of them?
In that case why are people saying they lied about the number of planets? Obviously if we're all starting in the same galaxy the odds aren't 1 in 18 quintillion. There are apparently multiple galaxies, but everyone starts in the same one. Galaxies are still massive, though.

This is taking 'the ending of mass effect 3 sucks balls therefore Bioware must die' proportions.
Come on guys. Take a breath, and let's take a 'real life' stance of things.
Literallygraspingatstraws.gifPlease, don't post this image.
People here will think Sean said they can have a tug-of-war with a Captain America Shield in No Man's Sky.
They'll call Sean a liar when they find out they can't.

What haha. So dog pile, shit talk, attack but don't dare try to act reasonable. We have been told there is some kind of player meet up. So far we don't know either way.
Those two guys test was flawed. Servers were toast. What more do you want to hear.
So is like Destiny?
Honestly think it's somewhere between 1 and 4. It's just so weird that he hasn't been forthcoming at ALL about it.I fully expect an explanation via tweet / statement within the next 2-3 hours since it is later afternoon where Hello Games is located. I would wager that whatever caused those two players to not see each other is and has been getting investigated.
Possible explanations:
1. Regional servers (the players aren't from the same country or something? Not sure.)
2. It's a bug.
3. Servers are over loaded.
4. Being able to see players is only possible after reaching a certain point in the game?
5. He lied and should exit the gaming industry forever.
But you are defending both "sides". First you say: it is there, it is just a bug / server overload / whatever. Then you say the interviews are old, the Tweet is new, so there is no multiplayer. So yes, we don't know either way. That is the problem and why this thread is so big. What haha. So dog pile, shit talk, attack but don't dare try to act reasonable. Going to leave this here.
Is it? Things point to nope but please enlighten us.In one interview he said you can meet up with your friends. That's technically true but highly improbable though. He was asked to give a yes or no answer to a question that is a lot more complicated.
It's remarkable how many of us knew very early on what type of experience this was yet people keep showing up claiming they were sold on this being a multiplayer game and that you could meet up and play with your friends like it was a regular thing.
