Its naive to think all incodents can investigated on the server or code, solve for either or both all within a day. That's all there is to it.

I know this is getting beaten like a proverbial dead horse, but when I was explaining this game to my gf yesterday (the concept of the game, not the game reportedly lacking this feature), this is something she brought up on her own - and probably the biggest single point of excitement about the game that she had.
The idea of having hours and hours of gameplay possibly intersect with someone else piqued her interest more than anything else I talked about.
If this is indeed not a gameplay element, in addition to it being strongly hinted at being a gameplay element, at best this is a lie by omission by not correcting the record before release or post release.

I think giving devs time to fix issues and respond is hardly weak. Patience is not that hard to come by, but please keep attacking the devs that will surely solve the problem.

It is clear that this was a big hook for many players - no matter how much the devs downplayed the MP aspect. They never outright denied it so people assumed those features would still be in, just not as the focus of the game.
It was also probably the first question that most interviewers asked the devs and each and every time they either confirmed it or gave just a vague statement.
I think it's a natural question to have given the concept. And the exclusion of the feature does make it feel like a less interactive product.

I always doubted you'd be able to considering how vague they've been every time answering the question.
They didn't seem to think you'd actually be in the same place as another player considering the number of planets etc, so it doesn't surprise me the game doesn't allow you to see other players and play with them. If you could, wouldn't the game require PS+?

It is nearly midnight in the UK, while the developers may still be working on getting the PC version ready we probably wont be seeing any updates until tomorrow (when we probably wont see any either)

Nah. I loved some of the stuff people posted earlier with the "duck-shit" post being the highlight for me. Some of the short cartoons were good as well.
It's just that I barely found any of those Crackachu photoshops to be funny and I'm not the first one to say this.

i am sure that Hello Games will come up with a formal statement at some point (hopefully soon) on the status of this and clarifications on what will happen.
Except he mentioned that players can meet and see each other several times in interviews and many players went into this game expecting this feature. Magic destroyed!
A short tweet preventing this shitstorm would've been even more useful at this point though.
I don't think tweeting that they're experiencing massive influx of data is useless. Its not what you want to hear, but that doesn't make it useless.

I warped for the first time today. The Star system I landed in was discovered by a user named Psytokat... so I messaged him asking him to meet me at a space station.
We are currently 4 systems away! We will meet at a space station.
He is streaming in twitch, username Psytokat.

Edit: We are both in the same station but cannot see each other...
Update: We are 100% In the same station same spot and everything and we cannot see eachother.
Update 2: So we even found the same bade on a planet!! Me and him streamed his twitch name is Psytokat and mine is TheSadCactus. We will be streaming starting around 9-9:45 Eastern time tonight.
Update 3: 8/10/2016 12:42AM. Thank you to all the people who tuned in to my stream you really made my week! I was so nervous when I found another player I was barely able to function but we did it! Me and Psytokat beat the odds and found each other already! I will try again soon to see if we can try again when the servers are more stable. Stay tuned!

They found the same location, but no, they did not see each other.
Sean has had plenty of time to respond, he made like 5 vague tweets regarding the issue. People expected a feature to be in the game and the devs have done nothing to confirm our deny whether or not this feature is in the game.
They didn't see each other. It's badly worded. Some people here watched the stream.
Shitstorms are all relative, they could be putting out bigger fires based on data they're seeing. We don't know as we're not in their shoes.

A tweet of acknowledging the server issues and confirming that the feature (see other players) is supposed to be in the game would've taken 10 seconds and prevented a lot of bad press, angry youtube videos and heated discussions within the community.
To me it is pretty clear that if you can give that positive answer, then there is absolutely no reason not to do so. Obviously, if you don't have good news you might wait a bit in order to not sour people even more on the game during the period of the most sales.
Remember that this is just a working day for the team and that fixing issues that the server is experiencing will be their priority. Heck, they're probably all celebrating this second - because the game's launched. For us it has been hours of gritted frustration but for them it's just another day getting stuff done and hopefully chilled evening.

The feature, if it exists, will be that much more of a mystery for people to drive for now, especially with the press even if negative. Being vague in response keeps the hunger alive, look at some of you in this thread alone. "No publicity is bad publicity," as some would say.

Spent the entire night plaything this game, and most of today. The game is amazing. How the hell the thing is 6gigs is ridiculous.
A couple questions tho:
1 - Has Sean or anyone from Hello Games commented on the multiplayer aspect since yesterday?
2 - Are the stickers real? Seriously? I've never heard of that before. Almost unbelieveable.

He has been coy since yesterday. Before that he was rather open about seeing other players during interviews. You guys are grasping at straws.
Come on, you can't possibly believe that yourself. If this was a holiday or something, then I might agree. But especially during a working day I'd expect a prompt reaction in order to prevent a possible PR disaster right during the game launch.

Being coy about a feature to drive sales is underhanded, that's why there's a thread in the first place.
Are you trolling, dude? Sean has repeatedly stated that players will be able to meet each other, there's no mystery to that. Two Twitch streamers have tried to meet up and failed. The feature either doesn't exist or it doesn't work, and they should be able to tell us if a feature is momentarily broken.
If the feature does exist and Sean is being vague on Twitter to drum up publicity, then we should criticize him anyway for being a manipulative asshole.

Having mysterious features/functionality is now bad? If this is a feature people will want it spoiler tagged if discovered. Game has been single player first and foremost for a long time.
