The Witcher III: Blood & Wine |OT| One last contract, one last plough

Finished the main story, played through both major branching paths to see the different endings (it was well worth doing), now it's just a few secondary quests left to do in the expansion. It was bloody incredible, some minor annoyances and technical issues aside. The quests and characters are going to stick with me for a while as I keep processing my decisions and their consequences. Toussant was a joy to explore, a huge beautiful land of wonder and chivalric virtue, so refreshingly different from the other locations in the main game.

Apparently, I somehow missed a side quest involving Roach? I think I read about it in this thread, but don't remember Geralt's horse featuring in any quests.

A couple tips for those yet to start:
- I don't recommend playing this before finishing the main game's story. The leisurely pace at which the story and most secondary events unfold seems very out of place if Ciri is still pursued by the Wild Hunt. Also, at least one conversation failed to recognize that situation properly (
my Geralt told Regis that he and Ciri defeated the Wild Hunt together, although I hadn't even done the Battle of Kaer Morhen at that point
).
- Final boss can be very frustrating, if you can't figure out how to avoid his one nasty attack.
As soon as you see him gathering bats, roll away to get some distance from him and then start sprinting off to the side before the bats pounce towards you. Dodging via rolling works sometimes, but sprinting works every time.

Just finished on my ng+ character at 267 hours, what a fantastic DLC and great end to the whole saga, still had a few sidequests to go (and a billion ? on the map) but might save that for my third play through, if they ever add in an ng++. This might make Witcher 3 my GOTY 2 years running :D.

Ahhhhhhh

Wanted to buy the game with DLC but it bugged out.

I forgot my password as I was checking out my cart. So I changed it on my phone and then proceeded to insert the new password on the console. Pressed X and afterwards it told me that the service is not active at the moment or something along those lines.

The problem is that there is no buy button anymore. There's a download button but when you press it it doesn't download the game.

No money been drawn from my paypal either.

What can I do ?

Edit: actually there has been drawn money! The game doesn't download though.

It's not an lack of space on the hard drive warning either. Weird.

Edit: it worked out anyways, never mind

Finished this last night. A step down from Hearts of Stone but still an excellent piece of DLC (says more about the quality of Stone).

Although I'm new to the Witcher series - having not played 1 or 2 - the last 100+ hours with geralt will definitely have me missing this universe big time.

Also, I'll buy ANY game CDPR makes next.

Finished this finally after taking a long lull. Judging by what I'm reading on this page, I probably got the bad ending as
the Queen and her sister both died
I must say that for once I'm a bit pissed since I made it a point to make Detlaff and Syanna pay for their crimes but because of circumstances outside my control,
Regis being too bro and queen being a supreme idiot, even though I explicitly drove down the danger that Syanna posed at every opportunity I got
, my choices backfired rather spectacularly. Oh and one more gripe, the scene with t
he double KO
could have used a better direction for how pivotal it was.

But overall, pretty alright DLC, I liked it more than Heart of Stone which fell flat for me. Beauclair is a sight to behold and the castle is goddamn beautiful, I want such things to exist in reality. + Bonus points for the Roach /Aerondight / that one hot court lady quests.

There's this weird thing though, I'm 100% sure I ended my main game with
Ciri ending up in Nilfgaard yet I just met her and found out she's apparently a witcher. Feels bad man.

In my ending,
syanna and Dettlaff died.
Kinda alright with this, since I thought
Syanna was spectacularly unreasonable and Dettlaff was an enormous danger because of his uncontrolled impulsiveness.

This expansion ranks around the same as Hearts of Stone story-wise, which is a monumental achievement considering it is an open world in itself. Amazing side quests as well. This expansion is the best game I've played this year, so great work by CDPR! 10/10

Do you get locked out of side quests until the main quest finishes when starting Capture the Castle?

I just can't get myself to finish this game knowing I'm in the last few (ten?) hours of what has to have been over 200 hours over the past year. I think I've done most of the side quests.

Manticore armor looks great with the blue dye.

I completed the side quests I had left after Capture the Castle. You can always create a save pre Capture the Castle, start the quest, see what fails, revert back to your older save and do those side quests first before doing Capture the Castle.

In blood and wine, which option is the better and/or more entertaining route:

Spoilers:
1. Taking Syanna to Dettlaff
2. Or seeking the Elder Vampire

Is it possible to find base game diagrams in Toussaint? Of all said diagrams, I'm missing only Superior Northern Wind (by sheer dumb luck I managed to find Superior Spectre Oil part way through Hearts of Stone).

Option 1 is the more entertaining, as for which is better that's up to taste. There is also a fork in option 2 where you can still do option 1 but I'm not sure where you are in the story.

IIRC the Alchemist in Beauclair sells any remaining diagrams.

I took a short break but I'm back clearing the rest of the Toussaint map!

Just finished it. I got the "good" ending, although I'm sad to see
Regis
go. Then again, they really had no other choice.

Really enjoyed it, and might consider going back to get the other two endings.

Goodbye Geralt. Thanks for the memories old friend. You've more than earned your rest.

Classy and heartfelt
farewell message from CD Projekt Red after the end credits.
Best game publisher, and so refreshing how respectful they are to their customers.

So does
whoever shows up at the house at the end when you go home depend on who you romanced in the regular game
?

Imagine how Cyberpunk will be. Same quality questing in a sci-fi setting. I feel W3 was a test for something even crazier.

IIRC the Alchemist in Beauclair sells any remaining diagrams.

Cheers, I'll keep that in mind.

Edit: I just completed a vintner contract and the quest giver happened to be selling the diagram for Superior Northern Wind. Huzzah.

My Roach is still mising her tail (on PS4). Will there be another patch to fix this? Poor Roach, I rather not use her for travel than looking at her bare behind. :(

I need to vent.

Up until now, the difficulty on Death March has been largely fine (except for the Cosplay quest with its ridiculous difficulty spike.)

Now I'm at the final boss and one attack of its second form one-shots me even through the Quen shield. There seems to be no way of dodging the attack either. That's absolutely cheap bs. What makes this even worse is that I have to sit through the loading time AND a bunch of cutscenes plus the whole dialoge for each and every try. It's too bad that this seems to sour the experience for me right at the end of the TW3 experience now. >:(

It can be dodged with a dive, but the timing is very strict.

Just run to the side before he unleashes the attack. Simple.

About the loading time, you can save your game just before approaching the battle
between Regis and Dettlaff.

That's a one-hit kill on Hard as well. Really surprised me and I got a bit annoyed at the intro cutscene until I figured out how to avoid it (by running to the right or left at just the right time. There's an audio cue)

Just fucking run like hell, man. I used to try dodge rolling at the right time, but that only worked less than half the time. Gave simply running to the left or right a try, and it worked every time. I kind of doubt this particular thing changes depending on difficulty, but to be clear, my experience was on Blood and Broken Bones.

Also, have you tried to at least have that resurrect mutation equipped? Did wonders for me. It also looks cool as fuck.

You can dodge it but you have to time it pretty accurately.
IIRC there is a moment of silence before the bats come down and during that small time frame you dodge roll. Also, it helps to hit him with Aard when he does his aerial attack, you can strike him a couple of times. The resurrection mutagen is great too.

Quick question for those who have beaten the expansion:

I've heard a ton of talk about a fantastic part of this DLC, a mythical "Land of . . ." being an awesome thing that shouldn't be missed but can be depending on a decision that is made.

Is there any spoiler-free way you guys can point me in the right direction?

Loving this DLC and this game.

This may or may not help and may or may not be too spoilery but:
In the main quest, when you have to make an important choice (it'll be very clear that it is important and you don't have to make the choice right away), go with the less drastic option

Hope that helps a bit without giving too much away!

That's a pretty good way of putting it, and avoids spoilers.

Finished it.

This is right there with the DLC for the souls games as my favorite DLC ever. Lots of really great content. I loved the new area, there are tons of new quests and some interesting new game mechanics. At times this seriously felt like I was playing The Witcher 4.
Also, I really enjoyed the main story more than both Hearts of Stone and the main storyline of the core game. It mixes good characters with a bit of mystery and some fun plot twists.

Got the "bad" ending but I feel fine with it:
Dettlaff had to die. I was with him up until when he goes full genocide mode.I don't feel bad for Syanna either. She had a hard childhood but that doesn't excuse you from facing the consequences of your actions.
Felt bad for the queen and the negative effect her death will have on the region. But come on, I told her like 10 times her sister was evil and even brought her proof that she was planning on killing her.

Also made a save file right before the key decision at the end to see both paths, pretty worth it and I'd recommend everyone to do so (unless you want to replay the whole thing). It gives you 1 hour + of vastly different content and both paths are really cool

The whole fairly tale land was great, I was surprised to see such a big and detailed area for just this segment. The other one was a bit dull in terms of location (a cave) but seeing and interacting with the Unseen elder was interesting, I love creatures in lore that are just one a whole other level of existance than the rest of the characters. And you get that cool red armour

I just got Witcher 3 about two weeks ago. I'm currently level 19 and still in Novigrad area. Absolutely loving the game so far. I plan on purchasing and playing through all the DLC after I complete the main game. My question is:

Should I wait until I complete the game to purchase/play DLC? Will it take away from my experience if I purchase them now? What say you?

I think they're both best experienced after the ending of the main game, in the order they were released.

I really liked the
Unseen Elder. That moment when he wakes up and Geralt confidently tells him not to attack them, he grabs his sword and he just gets trashed. The strength of the elder is really cool to see. It even caught Geralt by surprise.

2nd playthough done. Beauclair just didn't click with me near so much as even Velen did. I can't even put my finger on exactly what it is yet, just not the same feeling of connection to the environment. I think the storybook aesthetic just isn't my style.

HoS > Main >> B&W, for me at any rate.

I finished B&W 2 months ago (Got the good ending as well), yet I can't stop thinking about it. It was a such an amazing conclusion.

Feels like a big farewell to Geralt and his story.

Finished it getting the best ending naturally. Seems I lucked out as after getting it I looked up the conditions as well as the other endings and it's easy to see how people don't always get it.

Beat it, got the bad ending but don't care.

This expansion was excellent, so much content.

My only real grievance was the final boss. What a frustrating experience on Death March... very hard to avoid one shot attack that goes through even Quen. I tried out various potions and skill load outs to raise my defenses/vitality high enough to avoid at least getting one shotted but nothing worked, eventually I just learned its timing and got lucky enough to dodge it and get to the final phase which was very easy compared to this other form with the cheese attack.

And now the road to the Platinum trophy begins.

Man the amount of 10/10 gorgeous women in Witcher 3 is off the charts.

Edit: Another grievance is that a couple of the achievements couldn't be done without knowing spoilers in advance or coming to them after completing. I missed some stuff in the tournament so I can't get that achievement anymore until I play the game on NG+. I plan to do that anyway but that still kinda sucks.

There are multiple endings to B&W? I probably got the bad one then, but I'm fine with that - that's the beauty of Witcher games, even a bad ending can be good and satisfying.

It's so sad that this is the very end. What an amazing game overall. Funny thing is, the most heart-breaking moment was not the main quest ending, not the credits rolling, but when after main quest I went and finished all the side quests, the list was empty and I realized I had to turn the game off myself. I was standing on some hill watching a picturesque sunset over Beauclair, knowing that I can still go anywhere, but the journey was over and I have to say goodbye. Clicking that "Exit" for the last time was really sad.

When he woke up I told him
"I'd rather not hurt you" and he goes like "lol" . Also loved that when you come back you can ask him something, then he grows annoyed of questions and if you continue to ask him things he just kills you

Yeah,
I asked too many questions. He or Regis even warned me but I wanted to see how far I could push it.

Is it possible to get a good, or at least not terrible ending after doing
badass vampire
path?

I've just replayed last part of the expansion and looks like no matter what I say in the end
anarietta dies
.

hm that's just weird. I assumed it cannot be perfect, but why can't you at least
save anarietta
is beyond me.
Because
Anarietta is stubborn and delusional, and you don't have enough opportunities to soften Syanna's heart enough to prevent her from killing her little sister.

true but you have every opportunity to make guards stop her IMO.
Anyway, I got the good one in my normal playthrough, this one I checked only out of curiosity.
Also I think there is one more with geralt in jail or something?
