I think some of it, not all obviously as the game does have flaws, is people painting a picture of this game that simply never existed. Now you could say that's the fault of devs or Sony or the media or whatever, but there's no doubt that there was a lot of misinformation and general confusion surrounding the game that is now causing backlash.

People are angry that other people are enjoying a game.

I found a planet packed of gravit balls (more than 20k each) on the surface lol, they are like everywhere, and everytime i get one many sentinels come after me.

Time to farm!

I saw this backlash coming a million miles away. Every preview thread for NMS had 100 jackasses going "yeah, but what do you actually do? Where's the game?"

I knew before the game was released that the multiplayer aspects of the game would be minimal to none, and now we have a 100 page thread of people ripping a game that half of them haven't even played to pieces because there's no multiplayer aspects that we know of.

There's criticisms to be made about the game, but these threads have turned into a parody of gaming outrage culture.

I have found nickel on occasion in the 'oversized' asteroids that are bigger than the average ones floating around.

Same here with the nickel. Big asteroids seem to have it.

Aluminum has been pretty scarce. Green shards like emerald. Usually found by plutonium or has been for me.

Just use best stuff you can when space limited. Putting +2, +3, +4... next to each other could give extra boost, but if limited in space go for that +4 etc.

Do we know if that will give a boost putting them next to one another?

Also a complaint...let me see my schematics even if the inventory is full Hello Games!!!

What's the best way to get nickle and aluminum? Meteorites aren't giving me jack shit, and that's when I actually can't find one that's made of one of the two.

Come to the Boehmhaus system? I had a planet full of both Nickel and Aluminum boulders... Just have to keep looking I guess.

I have to go out of town for a couple days, so tonight this will be me playing NMS. At least I'll get to warp for the first time.

I'm surprised to hear people saying the upgraded mining laser is better in dogfights. Seems like bad balancing if they've made industrial equipment better at combat than combat weapons.
I'm going to Boston this weekend, gonna be withdrawl

And I dunno about that. It mentions "weapon" first.

400px-NoMansSkyPhaseBeam.jpg

The way I saw it was that the phase beam is your more powerful weapon needing a charge, whereas your Photon Cannon is your basic, unlimited shot. Though it's weird because people are having this bug with the Photon Cannon saying it needs to be recharged (yet still working) so who knows.

I've actually found it better to use the Photon Cannon for mining. It's unlimited and you can fire off a wide spread of shots to hit stuff in the time it would take to fire just a couple of phase beam shots. It's also preferable for hitting stationary targets like turrets and containers on the big ships, the phase beam is very sticky and can draw aggro from a side you don't want to disturb.

Do we know if that will give a boost putting them next to one another?

Yep, they give boost. Put e.g. all mining laser upgrades next to each other and so that they touch mining laser point and you will get bonus boost(s). Yesterday streamer redid his upgrades like that and mining laser got ~75% more powerful.

XYXX or XXYX etc., also vertical and zigzag placements work.

X = Upgrade

Y = Function to be upgraded

The funny part is I find the photon cannons pretty useful for mining. They destroy the large asteroids far faster than the phase beam does even with coolant upgrades.
hey I said that too! I am wondering if the photon cannon becomes a more formidable weapon with some key upgrade tech.

This game is going to be a cult classic. I don't think I'll ever tire of burning through the atmosphere of a new planet and becoming completely engulfed in its glory within seconds (or in some cases, horror). I think one day in the near future I'm going to end up forcing myself to stay on the next nice planet I find and just roam around and go caving.

Everything else is icing on the cake for me.

So actually I'm on this dead planet that has this HUGE caverns, just a few plants and minerals and no fauna at all... BUT the shape of the tunnels... it makes me think that there were giant worms once. I explored for a while looking for them but I didn't find anything, the reason I did this (and it's killing me still) is because this planet has this strange big and loud noises of animals... like whales or cows or jungle noises like orangutans but the planeta is dead! there's no life other than alien explorers in camps... what it's making the noises!? I tried to get close to them but I'm sure I was right next to the source of the noises and it was nothing...

My theory:

1) Animals actually exist and they are hidden, it might be giant worms due to the shape of the tunnels.

2) The noise come from the plants.

3) The planet is alive, maybe it killed the fauna, devour them but it doesn't matter.

4) Ghosts from the former animals, obviously worms.

I'll keep exploring before making my decision about what's really happening in this place.

You know, I feel that you always do the same in this game but it's so full of stuff unanswered that I can't keep doing my own story without anything spoiling it for me, it's fantastic.

DAMN!!!!!

Ok so, I kept exploring this planet because I refused to believe that the noises were cues to find caverns (they're probably that but I don't want to believe that so I'm doing my best to hold onto something that helps me to sustain my theory) and guess what!!!!

I've found new evidence that points towards living beings of some sort on this planet!!

So, let´s start:

This is how my planet looks like, this is how big the caverns are:

So, traveling around searching for clues I stumbled upon a monolith and this happened:

"The voice of an ancient tribe shakes the ground I stand on"

Cmon I can totally asume that the sound I hear is coming from some ancient beings that inhabitated the planet once, I mean even if I'm wrong there's nothing in the game telling me that I am.

But wait, there's more!!

I found this crashed ship with more data:

It says it was attacked by something, whatever it was is long dead now, that's how my quest ended but I can asume that either the hunter was drilling the planet in search of trophies or some monster used to live there.

So yeah, tell me to stop dreaming, cmon!!

Shot of the ship that's actually my new ship (have to fix it though). :)

I kinda wish the controls for flying the ship were different. The way they are now is pretty similar to Battlefront. Having roll on the shoulder buttons doesn't feel too great. I'm getting used to it alright, but it definitely could have been better.

There's really no reason to have the right stick relegated to look while in-flight. It seems wasteful.

So how are people enjoying this game/what are your biggest complaints other than the whole seeing people thing? It's surrounded by so much negativity right now that I can't get a good read. Getting it tomorrow on pc

Was just going to post that flight controls feel awkward as fuck. Any tips? Just left first planet.

This. This shit has me crazy intrigued. Please report back and spend my money for me.

This thread seem pretty positive :)

yes, MegaSackman, I am loving this!

Ok just got home, back to playing, going to try to get Aluminum for the Warp Reactor Tau.

Those texts are randomly picked, though. The noise is simply to add ambience, and that it plays on barren planets is probably a bug.

HOLY SHIT. You guys I just have to share this story with you all. You probably don't remember but for the last couple of days I have been searching my starting planet looking for my starting location. When I first took off from there I didn't use the distress beacon and have been fretting ever since whether or not I would miss out on something later on by not accepting Atlas' guidance. Well guess what just happened?

When all hope of finding my starting location was lost and I was about to leave my starting planet for the final time, I landed at one final outpost to say my goodbyes. Heading inside I find a control panel with a series of numbers tracking the faint pulses of a distress beacon. I input the correct number in the sequence and was given co-ordinates to the beacon of a downed ship. I leave the outpost and take off in my ship but the location is on the other side of the planet, a good 30 minutes away with my boosters. I leave the atmosphere so I can use my pulse engines which makes short work of the distance.

Coming in to land I notice a nearby monolith so I thought I would head there first. After landing I noticed that it has already had it's knowledge extracted. Slowly heading up the hill to the distress beacon I get a sense of deja vu. Cresting the hill, the sight I saw was unbelievable... ... It is my starting location. The ship is gone, long since abandoned for something better but sitting right there, is the distress beacon with an offer from Atlas for some guidance... Wow. This is insane. What are the odds of that ever happening again?

Spent about 10 hours with the game and loving it so far, even though I've only been to two total planets and the nearby space station. For some reason, I'm addicted to finding the last of the eight species on the planet. Spent nearly 20 minutes wandering away from my ship and now I'm regretting having to make that trek back.

BTW, what is this about a bug with using a pre-order bonus ship and not getting the drive needed to leave?

It's called poor audio design

Regardless of all the pisstivity tgis game is causong people in the other threads, i feel like this game is going to sell very well. I mean look at the front page. There like 5 NMS threads just on the first page Lmao. There'll be another one tonight when the PC performance thread hits.

I think it will too. Marketing did an excellent job of selling the dream of the game. If it continues to be supported in the near future I can see it selling quite a bit.

There are little bits of lore and unusual interactions like this scattered all over, but you have to remember that none of this was placed by hand. It's great for putting together your own stories of the history of a planet like that but there's no finding out "what really happened" if that's what you mean.
