Maybe half of Walkure turns into Protodevilin for the ending?
"Waga nawa gepurunich"
Saw the ep, loved the ending. Unguarded Mirage is the cutest thing ever, she sounds cute too. There's this nice softness to her voice as well, want her like that from now on. Nice to see this thing info dump on the history of Macross and thank you for not ignoring best music AI bae Sharon Apple.

What exactly is Mikumo and who the fuck is Lady M? I can't see either Miria or Mylene doing some gene manipulation shit, that's not in their characters. Did anybody else get all hype when the OG Macross theme came on?

Hype so much when original Macross theme rock lol. I end up stopping the anime and jump to Youtube to open the song.((<-<

I though Lady M is Mikumo? ?_?

Too bad it was only an instrumental version. That part and the Sharon part got me so hype. I love Sharon's music. I think Lady M is the head of Chaos so I highly doubt it's Mikumo. Sharon had so much flare...I just know Sheryl was a fan of hers. I just hit up youtube... Wanna Be An Angel is fucking God Tier.

Hmmm maybe. Man, they are still keeping that Lady M secret so tight.^_^

Epsilon Company is the Anaheim of Macross lol.\>.</

Best infodump episode ever. And a well done Macross saga recap.

Instrumental Macross theme, that Minmey song I didn't recognize, some Sharon Apple recognition. They even threw in Try Again, Lion, and Ai Oboete Imasu ka.

Fuck that shit. This episode proves we need more FIRE BOMBER

I'm tired of all these whiny idols. Bring back the unbreakable asshole Basara.

Basara is the only Macross Idol that you can't ship with anybody. I ship him with Sibil, but she's never appeared in any of the post series content.

Perfect humanoid... that only lives for 30 years. Roid is an egotist and clearly the villain. Too late to introduce Lady M as one. I just noticed that every Macross has a singer with names starting with M. Does Mao count as one? It was nice to hear some old songs and a few reanimated scenes from old shows.

Aren't the only ones true to this rule Myung, Minmei, Mylene and Mikumo? And Myung didn't even sing in Plus, she sort of just sang through Sharon most of the time. She sang off key during the ending. Why did Delta completely gloss over the fact that Misa translated and wrote DYRL?

What if the only reason Hayate loves Freyja is because she inadvertantly mind-controlled him through their resonance with her stronger-than-Var singing?
Nah, I hope things still end well for these two.

It was nice hearing my favorite Fire Bomber song again. I should really get around to watching Plus and Frontier, too.

Just like what Lao Tzu said lol. The flame that burns Twice as bright burns half as long.

So, in this case, Windammere is the utimate humanoid which simply need to had moar babies lol.^_^

No one deserve Basara better than the GREAT MOUNTAIN.O_O

I ship Basara and mountain ten times more than any girls lol.^-^

EP19

Recaps, fan service, Minmei, Sheryl, Sharon, Mirage ship is sailing back, and nice ED music!

And I went back to Mirage and Hayate scene, twice!

Man, all of those callbacks (so much hype when they started talking about Sharon Apple and had Wanna Be an Angel playing in the background, and it was great to hear Lion again too when they got to Frontier), Mirage actually getting a bit of focus, and a great ED. I'll definitely have to go back and watch that one again soon.

Hello folks.

I would love it if someone with proper knowledge of the entire Macross series provided me with a viewing list order.

I only have watched the original Macross (Robotech) back in the 80s, and I know there have been a ton of animes that either precede or follow up on that story.

What is the viewing order that Macross fans would suggest to me? (Include Robotech on the list just so I get an idea of the timeline/viewing preference)

I would really appreciate the help as I am a bit lost here. Thanks!

The most recent episode of Delta did a brief recap of the previous series in chronological order. Basically, the order goes...

Super Dimension Fortress Macross (adapted/modified in the '80s as Robotech: The Macross Saga) --> Macross Plus --> Macross 7 --> Macross Frontier --> Macross Delta

The years each take place, in the same order as above, being...

2009-2012 --> 2040 --> 2045-2046 --> 2059 --> 2067

There's also Macross Zero, which takes place one year before the original SDF series and is referenced through an in-universe movie in Frontier. In regards to the films, they've all been alternate continuity retellings compared to the shows themselves, with the exception of the movie version of Macross Plus vs. its four-part OAV. The movie for SDF, Do You Remember Love?, was acknowledged as another in-universe theatrical version of the events of that show, though at this point, there's the question of how much of it actually applies (Minmay's performance of the title song and its origin, for instance, seem to be acknowledged as canonical at this point in spite of not showing up in the original series). There are two films for Macross Frontier, both of which are extensive revisions of the show's original story.

If you've heard of something called Macross II, feel free to ignore it. It's non-canonical.

My recommendation for now would be to focus on the TV shows, then look into the films if they pique your interest. I'd say watch the OAV for Macross Plus (four episodes, as mentioned, last one to make it out of Japan, with the dub being well worth it for Bryan Cranston alone), then try Macross Frontier (25 episodes). Macross 7 is pretty much the most over-the-top of the series, so YMMV, and has the greatest time investment (49 main episodes and three encore episodes). Macross Delta is still going right now (expected to go for 26 episodes), so catching up with that can wait.

tl;dr: I'd say try Plus, then Frontier for now.

Wow! Thank you so much!! This is just the most awesome reply ever!

Just one small detail, I start with Plus then Frontier, even though the chronological order of those 2 is actually the other way around right?

Also, I am thinking of rewatching SDF: Macross Saga, so I obviously start from there right?

Again I appreciate the excellent reply. :)

No problem. Plus is a good while before Frontier (2040 for Plus, 2059 for Frontier). That's on me, since I could've put the years next to everything instead of making two separate lines, so I'll fix that now:

Zero (2008) --> SDF (2009-2012) --> Plus (2040) --> 7 (2045-2046) --> Frontier (2059) --> Delta (2067)

Rewatching SDF first instead works, as a refresher and to see what differed between it and how it was adapted as Robotech.

Oh I am sorry I meant:

watching Plus then skipping Macross 7 to watch Frontier and then watch Macross 7?

More reflective of how I went about things (I watched both Plus and Frontier without seeing 7 between them, but didn't really feel that I missed out on anything vital to following the story). If not pressed for time, though, then feel free to check that one out as well. Expect a very different take on the series if you do check out 7, though (definite whiplash going from Plus to 7 in terms of style, tone, and presentation).

I see, I'll trust you on this because indeed it sounds like Macross 7 is a rather different style to the rest. So i'll check it up last.

Thank you again, you have been of great help! :)

It is. Macross 7 is the most over the top one and tone wise it doesn't match up with most of the franchise. Plus and Frontier link up better even though Plus is the most serious one but Frontier has its moments like that as well. Macross 7 leads into Delta as far as I'm concerned since they both put more of an emphasis on whacky idol stuff. A lot of ideas from Macross 7 also feed into Delta since parts of Delta are originally experimental programs from 7. Frontier has the best idol though and Sharon Apple from Plus has the best music, based Yoko Kanno did both Plus and Frontier. Series wise the original and Frontier are my favorites and Plus is decent enough.

I just finished 7 after reading about it in earlier pages, and man I guess as a whole it's "good" but it felt like nothing happened for the first 26 episodes
before they get the song energy
and a ton of that time was the same loop of enemies warp in -> launch valkyries -> Basara singing at people who don't care -> Gamlin yelling at him -> enemies retreat. Guess people had more tolerance for that pacing in the old days, but if it were made now they could probably do everything in 25 episodes.

Also as others have mentioned there should have been
more Sivil and Basara stuff
, or maybe
more backstory on ray and basara
and
man the ending was so abrupt too "Oh i got spiritia, don't need this universe anymore, ciao!"
. Happy I watched it but I'd be unlikely to again. Now to watch the other series...

All Basara wanted was for people to listen to his song.
Sivil: "Anima Spirichia! AAAAAAHHHHH"
Gigil: "Siviiiilll"
Some fucking douche bag: "This is the beauty of violence."
Basara: "Listen to mah song!"
Gamlin: "This isn't safe."
Mylene: "Basara what the fuck are you doing? Baka."
Veffidas: ........................................................."Basara is Basara...drumbeat."
Miria: "Max where are your balls? Baka. Who you calling oba-san?"
Max: "Don't take your eyes off that monitor."

On the real though M7 could've and should've been done in 26 episodes. I liked it but the first couple is a repeated slog. Pretty much my favorite parts are trying to figure out what fucking gender Gepilnitch was, Max and Miria and Gamlin's growth. I don't hate Basara, he's just not my favorite lead character. I also wanted more of Fire Bombers manager and Ray.

Episode 19

I had a feeling i'd be right about the similarities of the
Var and the Vajra
. I just didn't know what exactly the connection was other than they seemed really similar in concept. That plus Hayate's quartz helps put things into better perspective.

If this is the case why don't they just drag Ranka and Sheryl out of retirement? It's not like they're too old to sing and they had direct influence over the Vajra.

Huh? Isn't the Var come from Vajra fold receptor which had grow and adapt with their new host which in Humanoid beings now? I don't the Ranka or Sheryl will be able to immediately solve the problem here.

Hell, if i am not mistaken here, isn't Chaos actually tries to solve this problem by utilizing those new generations of humanoids which had fold receptor to solve this Var illness.

Bruh I just want an excuse to see hot aged up Sheryl.

Agreed, Mirage needs to know how to work it against the loli
Freyja wouldn't stand a fucking chance. "Mirage this is how you win a man. Work that low cut top, thrust them hips, gyrate, make him feel dat heat!" "Sheryl-San what is heat?"
"Don't you know anything? Crawl on the floor like a cat, show off dat wetness, make him thirst."
"Like give him a bottle of water?"

"He'll need water after you're done with him"

I can see Sheryl putting Mirage's stiff ass through a twerking boot camp...that she teaches herself.
"What's twerking?"
"I'll demonstrate. There's no way I Sheryl Nome would teach a class in something that I haven't perfected myself."
"Sheryl-san, this is making me feel weird."
Grandpasimpsonenterandexitdoor.gif
At some point you need to watch the older shows. Watch Frontier and be baptized by Sheryl and watch SDF Macross and Macross 7 to learn about Miria. Miria in M7 is too good.
Mirage looks like a Metal Gear villain...

Mirage should just be honest with Hayate: "Freyja will die in like 10 years with crusty white shit all over her and I'll still be smoking hot in my 80s."

Play the long game.

"Look at Freyja, she's half dead, middle aged and has spider webs on her ovaries. Me? I'm still young and will be banging till I'm a corpse. Use your head Hayate."

Lol. I thought Sheryl is vegetable right now?^_^ And i don't think learning from Sheryl is a good idea lol.^_^ I mean, how long does it take for Alto to even go banging on Sheryl lol.

"Take a look at this picture. You'd be into her wouldn't you? That's my grandmother. This was taken last year. Do the math, Hayate. Not to mention we Zentraedi women are making up for 500,000 year delayed biological clocks."

Lol. I thought Sheryl is vegetable right now?^_^ And i don't think learning from Sheryl is a good idea lol.^_^ I mean, how long does it take for Alto to even go banging on Sheryl lol.

What you didn't deduce the obvious subtext that Sheryl came out of her coma to assume her role as Alto-himes domme that had to be clarified in an interview? Please!

I was told at some point Sheryl wakes up and they get married or something. Sheryl and Alto took forever because of Alto, not Sheryl. Sheryl seemed to be flirty with him from like the third episode or something since she wanted to make sure he wasn't with somebody and even asked him. She was up front. Alto was just in "I'm too afraid to make a decision so I won't and will just fly and run away from shit" mode. Even though he even made sure he spent his birthday with her.

"My grandma made my granddad so horny that they had seven kids. My grandma aged so well that she entered Ms. Macross at 60 and blew fucking minds. We Jenius women stay hot as fuck, it's in our genes."

It takes time to navigate the complex details of a non binary relationship of a couple like Alto/Sheryl.

Suddenly, Mirage developed a lot in episode 20.

Ohhhhhhh, no wonder.

Also that cliffhanger, wonder what will happen to Mikumo.

Hmmmm, Lady M of Chaos (Xaos).
Who could that be? Dr. Mao? Myung? Milia?

It was said "Ever since Space War I" this person worked on this project so it has to be someone who was around in 2009... And the only other "M" I can think of that goes back that far is Minmay... Who is lost along with Megaroad 01. Myung would be second since she worked on Sharon, but she would have been too young (or not even born yet in 2009). Milia... She seems disinterested in music.

So many info bombs dropped in episode 19.

I wouldn't exactly say Miria is disinterested in music since she sang in one of the bonus eps of Macross 7. I mainly just can't see Miria building a protoculture android.

Aha. No wonder lol.^_^ So, this is going to be the battle between Mirage fanboy writer vs Freyja fanboy writer lol.^_^

It takes time to navigate the complex details of a non binary relationship of a couple like Alto/Sheryl.

Their relation is as complex as Vajra system lol.

Or maybe Hayate dies with Freyja. Mirage lives to tell their story.

Triggered Freyja fanboys is going to burn Kawamori house lol.^_^

I think at this point a Minmay clone would look a bit boring. Only woman that stands up to Sheryl is Mikumo and that woman's like a deity or some shit.
