NYT: Republicans close to Trump say he's "exhausted, frustrated and bewildered"

If you know your vote doesn't matter, and you want to express your dissatisfaction for a broken system, why not...hmmm....vote for a candidate you believe in. Hell, you can write your own name in for all I care.

This is why people are calling you idiot/fascist. Because voting for Trump means:

A.) You didn't think of what I just said, which would make you kinda silly.
B.) You DO support Trump, which would make you a fascist.

Having said that, the name change does suck for you and is actually quite ironic. The person who did that clearly has a problem with fascism, and yet abused his power to change your name. People on GAF find that amusing/funny/whatever, but it's actually kind of gross to think that someone decided to take your name, and give you another one because they clearly know better. :P

But that's off-topic and obviously rather personal given I think it's obvious I didn't name myself Some Nobody. So let's get focused again:

We already look like morons to the rest of the world. It's like when people continue to say Trump and Hillary are equally bad when they're so obviously not. Trump is a racist, sexist fearmongerer. He says things that are unmistakably false and just goes on like these things can't be immediately fact-checked into oblivion. He's a guy running for the highest military office in the land--the commander-in-chief of the largest military force in the fucking world, and he kicked his political career off by calling POWs "losers". He tried to smear the names of a Muslim family that lost their son--a son who died fighting for this country. He's made mistakes that literally no other human being with even a few months of political experience would've dared make, and is such a shitty candidate he's managing to make some of the people with shorter memories long for the days of Mittens and John McCain.

This is a guy who should never have achieved anything remotely resembling a plurality. He should've gotten 2 percent, maybe five, and been a joke by now. But he's not--because there are enough people in most of the fifty states that believe all of the worst things he's said. And so if I'm from another country following American politics I've got to believe a large percentage of us are a bunch of ignorant mouthbreathers who think Mexico sends us their rapists and we should kill the families of terrorists to make them stop fighting us. (I'm still not sure how he got away with that one.)

And even those of us on the liberal side are a little wrong--we're all so self-satisfied that the GOP is getting what they've earned over the past twelve years and self-destructing. And rightfully so, but....why are none of us fucking embarrassed? Because over anything else right now, knowing that Trump has no shot but is still The Other candidate for the Presidency of the United States of America? We should be.

Truth. Someone not from America can only look at this election and conclude "a great percentage - 40% or more - of Americans are actually evil."

Trump supporters famously favor the losers

They should be used to it by now!

I never knew who the ironic supporter of fascism was. But in light of Trump's past month or so it would be a remarkably stubbon person who could continue to support Trump when his statements are becoming even more unhinged.

I know people joke that he is a democrat plant, but to be honest I reckon Trump is probably just a crazy republican plant who will make the otherwise hardcore right wing bigots of the party look more palatable to the mainstream by virtue of being well presented and practiced in public speaking.

It's like in marketing when you make a product that is really bad with several things in it no-one wants, and then when the backlash starts you take away four or five bad things and leave in the couple that were the only ones you really wanted anyway.

So, come 2020 expect a schmick looking Ryan/Rubio ticket waltz in trying to criminalise abortion, ban gay marriage, repeal the affordable care act and make bootstraps mandatory for all. And people will think they look better by virtue of them not being donald trump.

This is a good point. I mean, we had a rabid foaming at the mouth tea party nut like Kasich being presented a reasonable option just this election.

Precisely my point. As bad as trump is, remember every single republican candidate was a hardcore bigot this year.

The next question is will this huge failure this year make the Repubs move more to the middle or remain the same batshit crazy hate parade. Maybe even another party since the Republican name is becoming more toxic.

They cant be reasonable moderates or they will lose a huge chunk of thier voters.

Priebus already warned the rest of the party after 2012 that they can't survive on the crazy train anymore, and guess what happened 4 years later.

They need to spin off the Tea Party clowns and Darah Palin types. Biggest mistake they ever could have made was hitching their wagon to those loonies. They need to stop being openly defiant and critical of leaders of the opposite party for insane reasons--- Obama is a socialist. Obama is a Muslim. Obama wants to take your guns--- stick with fact base criticism and fundamental policy disagreement issues--- strategy in the Middle East isn't working. Economic plan isn't working as well as it could. Healthcare needs to be further refined to make it more affordable.

John McCain standing up to some of his own supporters during a rally back in 2008 to defend Obams is really the last time I saw any level of reasonability from a Republican. These politicians need to realize they all care about America and want it to be better, but they just have disagreements over how to go about doing it.

He's going off on twitter again this morning, saying the media is the reason he's losing. All according to keikaku to set up Trump News after he loses.

I think only caring about themselves and whoever greases their palms is the problem.

Yeah, the Republicans just want to make it better for rich, white men and fuck everybody else. Totally the same goal.

This is what happens when your father gives you money instead of human affection.

"Doesn't talk about crowd size or affection"

You can have the biggest and most affectionate crowds but it won't matter when they aren't enough to make you win.

It sure makes the impression that there are a whole lot of those people . How would people even in their own big country know if from the 300 million or so people a few tens of millions have the exact attitude to support Trump easily?

Allowing this to happen will make any excuse that america as a whole isn't like that worthless since the other the reasonable side of the american people didn't try hard enough to prevent this.

Those rallies are a just a bubble. You actually need to get people out there on the ground so they'll come out for you come election day. You just want to run a campaign on the cheap and pocket whatever you can. You say outrageous shit in those rallies and on twitter just to get free media coverage. Yet, Trump throws a stink because people actually report on the shit he ACTUALLY said. Stuff so vile that only those going for the gold in mental gymnastics can even attempt to clean up your messaging on cable news. If you want a roses and potpourri bullshit version of your message, you're gonna have to put up some ad money. You get exactly what you pay for.

As a non american, I'm less concerned about Trump and far more concerned on the boil that he has exposed for the world to see. That genie isn't going back in the bottle when he is defeated and we should all start thinking just what we can do to win the war of ideas with the type of person who still supports Trump.

They aren't going away and the worst thing that could happen is a competent version of Trump arises from the ashes and begins to tap into that demographic.

Uuuuuuugh. Is this how it's gonna be from now on? When anyone is called out for their shit they'll cry the world is against them and not even bother to think about why people have a problem with them?

At least he's facing consequences in terms of his polling numbers but god damn I wish there were more...

I think there will be. His legacy will not be his business or his wealth but the butt of political jokes and a pejorative for someone completely unfit to run.

I love how he's still obsessed with crowd sizes. PAN THE CAMERA

It is something that an egomaniac would constantly say. Look at the crowds, they are yuge! Bigly!

Victimization/Christ complex, this is their brand. War on Christmas, War on Religion, War on Conservatives, War on Chick-fil-A, War on Hobby Lobby, War on Trump.

It would be embarrassing if a middle schooler spoke the way Trump does. He's a 70 year old man. Even with a generous inheritance, how does someone like that manage a business? I know people have testified that he has always been this petty. But how... How is it possible for him to have got this far in his life with this kind of behavior?

I simply cannot wrap my head around the sentiment that Trump is "anti-establishment" or that voting for him is "sticking it to the man".

He's an old white guy who was born into fabulous wealth and survives (despite incompetence and constant failure) through the phenomenal wealth-generation of his land holdings. He is literally landed gentry, for god's sake. You are voting for hereditary aristocracy to "stick it to the man".

You want to show your disdain for the system? Vote for Vermin Supreme. There's literally no other way to read that vote other than disgust with American politics and hatred for the Washington elite. If you're going to "protest vote", you at least need to make sure that your vote actually conveys the message you want it to. The easiest way to read a vote for Trump is "I kind of like The Man and enjoy paying him rent."

Yeah, it amazes me that people who support Trump despise elites and feel that the rich are screwing them over, yet support an elite who has spent his entire life screwing the poor/working class/middle class over. Hillary Clinton came from a middle class background and worked her way up the social ladder as a woman no less.

Same thing happened with Obama versus Romney. Obama was an "elite" and the GOP tried to paint Romney as a blue collar guy. In reality, Obama came from a working class/middle class background, and Romney was born into wealth.

From what I've seen of his campaign, nobody believes that Trump is going to do what he is going to do until he does it.

Believe it or not in business, faith in a common sense of decency and rationality can be used as a weakness.

He just doesn't seem to understand that a passionate base does not guarantee a GE win.

'I have the biggest, most energetic crowds, therefore I should be winning'

He consistently ignores data, and doesn't heed his advisors. He's melting down in the middle of August! At this rate he might actually drop out.

Well, Trump is pretty stupid. The biggest stupid, the most energetic stupid, the best stupid you have ever seen. Only he knows the kind of stupid the country needs. He can stupid the greatest stupids.

Awww why did they ban Fascism Bro. We needed him around to keep discourse fair for both sides! Now who will defend Trump from himself?

I think the best part about him attacking these companies as "failing" is that his major platform is now about jobs and bringing back jobs. He then basically calls for all of these American newspapers and media outlets to fail, which is the direct opposite of his message.

Then he complains that they don't cover his message properly.

They aren't going away and the worst thing that could happen is a competent version of Trump arises from the ashes and begins to tap into that demographic.

I think more people need to worry about this. Trump has shown there is support for this. And just because he is incompetent doesn't mean a more competent person won't show up.

I don't actually want trump to be president. I think he's a blowhard. Voting for him is my way of expressing my dissatisfaction with the entire political system. It's my way of saying that I don't think the president even matters, because the problems run too deep for one person to make that much of a difference, even if that one person is the president.

Maybe he makes things worse, but relative to how much of a farce the whole thing already is, it's negligible. Just like whatever good Clinton might do will also be negligible.

If he wins, we look like morons to the rest of the world. Short term loss, but maybe we actually need to be beaten down, dethroned as the worlds superpower, or whatever for the government to take a hard look at what matters and get their shit together.

And if he loses, he brings the republican party down with him and that whole shitfest they call the GOP can disappear into the ashes.

Win win for me, and plus i live in California where my vote literally doesn't even matter, so it's more of just a fuck you on a personal level to a government that I feel has lost its way

If this post was anything but teenage Olympic backpedaling it might make a good argument for increasing arts education funding in the US.

Trump is clearly setting up the narrative for when he loses. I think he senses it, the internal strife with his campaign and the GOP.

Hell where has Pence been this whole time? I don't really get the sense that they are even running together.

But yea..Trump is already calling the system rigged, blaming the media etc. It'll be his excuse if he loses and quite honestly I think he truly believes that to be the case.

Trading human affection for a small loan and inheriting the Trump business and its shitty practices.

He inherited his fathers business, got a million dollar loan from his dad to improve his inherited business, he abused the bankruptcy laws, he doesn't pay taxes, he doesn't own as much as you think (hence why he is hiding his tax returns), etc.

Yeah but he's still successful. I would "kill" to have the kind of life Trump has. People can say what they want about Trump because most of it is deserved, but he wasn't just a silver spooner that rode on the money he was given, he turned that money into a brand and has become one of the most recognizable people in the entire world.

All that said, he's still a horrible human being, would be a horrible president, and I'm glad he is crashing hard.

His rallies have become his own personal bubble and sanctuary. In them he feels like the most powerful person in the universe, he can say literally whatever he wants and do whatever he wants and it's a success. He's so completely enamored by his rallies that he's baffled why they're not translating into success in the polls. Of course, he blames the media and pretend it's all their fault. In fact, it's so much their fault that they're the very reason he's losing!

I think reality is closing in on him that he's gonna lose and lose badly. He's been talking like a loser the past several days. Every day he lashes out at someone new. If it's not Hillary rigging the election, it's the stupid voter base, or the "failing media".

The best thing about the NY Times article is that his response to it proves their point. He continues to be bewildered how come his fascist rallies don't translate to awesome polls. He's completely out of his element and has no fucking idea what he's doing.

It's really quite amazing to see Trump spiraling chaotically through the Five Stages of Grief in such a short amount of time. Maybe he'll go through the whole cycle several times over before we get to Election Day!

Hes definitely marketing this position more and more as of late. I really hope a book comes out about the whole campaign from someone close.

Trump warning his own rally goers in Connecticut that if he loses he'll ditch them in a fucking instant, was maybe the lowest rhetorical ebb I've ever seen an adult human reach. My four year old used to try that threat.
