NYT: Republicans close to Trump say he's "exhausted, frustrated and bewildered"

These Trump surrogates on CNN and getting crazier and crazier. They're pretty much just openly ranting and fighting with the anchors.

The funnier one is Scottie Hughes, since she's railing on CNN, while, y'know, being a CNN employee. You hate 'em but you'll take their cheques.

Oh man apparently Trump is giving a speech tomorrow on his strategy on how to defeat ISIS. That should be fun.

"My strategy is secret, because we can't let our enemies know what we're gonna do. That's all I got. Media bias!!!"

Unsurprising. Modern american politics are very much a machine, and you win in it through careful calculation and allocation of resources. Trump is terrible at this, and its the thing Hillary is best at.
Nothing modern about it. Read up on Lincoln's elections (only because it's so well documented, he's still the greatest American President), fascinating stuff.

The idea that politics has been free of corruption, influence and power mongering before the turn of this century is laughable

But yeah, Trump is bad at this stuff

Okay, so English is my second language but I'm still pretty confident that the words "novelty"
and "tradition" are not synonyms, but rather antonyms, right ?

Well, check out Katrina Pierson working her verbiose magic

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAyuHcN9OHM
Holy shit, this person is a moron. She might as well have plugged her ears and shrieked "I know you are but what am I!" over and over again, for all the substance in her blather.

"It's a novelty tradition." What the hell?

Have you ever entertained the thought that even if Trump loses, he acually wins? That maybe...just maybe...his objective is not winning an election, but to bombard his name/brand across the entire USA and the rest of the world?

Because his speeches are anything but bland and his name is sticking around for his supporters as well as his deterrers. If Hillary wins or not, is not the point.

Think about it for a second: if the guy loses, his name/brand will still be stucked with a high percentage of the USA population, as well as the rest of the world, which then would favor his business.

No because supposedly he is losing business and money from people learning he is a madman. Cant find the article on it right now but ill try to dig it up.

Excellent analysis. And while I enjoy the flaming car wreck the Republican Party has become, it's really bad for our democracy. I've always voted Democrat by choice, but it's increasingly becoming a choice by default. There are things about the Democratic Party that I'm not entirely happy with, but when the other option is the Republican Party, then what can I do?

The solution is to vote in the primaries. That's the election where you actually get to make a nuanced choice.

...I hate the fact that I'm saying that, since the parties are private institutions and thus the primaries aren't "real" elections, so to speak (hence how convoluted they are), but, well... it's pretty much the only way to make First Past the Post actually work.

Yeah, I remember the same article (or maybe there's more of them?). His businesses are down 14% or around that number, I believe.

Yeah I think EmCee covered it:
Stage 1: This is rigged. I'm actually winning

Stage 2: It'd be really mean if you people let me lose. I'd be winning if you weren't letting me down and the media weren't lying about me

Stage 3: I actually don't care that much. Wow, you people really care if I lose. Not me, I'm cool like that. I tried and failed, big whoop, maybe you haters should grow up a bit and stop obsessing about it

Stage 4: Funny how I got you morons all riled up with a few little tweets and comments. Interesting how you played right into my hands. I just got a bunch of advertising and ratings for free. Thanks for confirming my hypothesis, for my social experiment, that this all was

Stage 5: I didn't run for President

I see this sentiment a lot, but I think it comes from a need to make Trump's illogical actions seem logical. Honestly, I think he's just a narcissist who has no understanding of how to run a general election campaign.

I don't especially care if Trump somehow ekes out a brand-awareness victory for himself by losing the election. I'll still get my third-term Democratic Presidency and all the trappings that come with it. I may even get possible control of Congress.

I was thinking about this earlier actually. If (when) Trump loses, he can essentially act as President in everything but name, or at least what he imagines a President to be. He can still make outrageous remarks. He can still post crap on Twitter on a daily basis. He can still drum up his ardent fanbase and get them to believe anything he says. With three added bonuses:

- He can appear on news channels on a regular basis, without recriminations for being a presidential candidate. He just gets to be an 'ordinary joe' (slash failed billionaire)

- He can call out Hillary on everything she does. Any mistake made by her or the party he can immediately point to and claim 'well clearly this horrific natural disaster wouldn't have happened under me'.

- He can directly cite the exact number of people who 'like him'. It'll still be a sizeable number of people that will vote for him and having an exact figure, no matter how small, is a great way to show how popular and loved he is.

I'm concerned at the post election fallout if he loses. All these racists and bigots have been emboldened by the guy, and if Brexit is any indication, the social landscape in the States is gonna get worse before it gets better.

It's only going to get worse.

I don't care what Trump wins, as long as it isn't the presidency. We are watching the republican party burn right now, if Trump brand recognition going up is the cost, I'll gladly pay it.

I watched the whole thing. It just gets better. lol

This is both really, really hilarious, and unbelievably sad.
"We could give them vaccines, but they wouldn't know." ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME. And here am I thinking all those dystopian movies are too much on the nose. These people are complete fucking fascists.

What do you think will happen when Trump loses that has not already happened or is not already happening in America?

The difference, hopefully, is that brexit won, and that *hopefully* trump gets humiliated in the general election, highlighting those bigots for the losers that they are and sending them back from the holes they crawled out of.

*goes to donate some more money to Hils campaign. Because of a frigging triumph the insult dog video.

An escalation of what has already happened, ESPECIALLY if Hillary is President. If his rallies are anything to go by.

Just throw in the additional narrative of him attacking women that voted for her, in his mind, "because she is a woman".

The Trump brand is based on a kind of gauche, glittering, hillbilly misconception of luxury. Whatever cachet he has doesn't have any merit to the kind of old money American wealth that Trump desperately wishes he was part of. It did have some overseas value - nouveau riche, the Middle East and Eastern European new money looking for an onramp or affinity with American wealth.

However, the last several months have exposed him at a global level, for what he is - a racist, anti-Muslim floundering intellectual failure who has been roundly and publicly rejected by the establishment. Whatever flimsy international appeal his brand had, has been put in a disastrous spotlight.

The people at his rallies are not going to be in the market for marble-gilded condos in Bahrain or on Fifth avenue. So when all of this is done, his brand licensing will probably be in the toilet, which leaves him with his real estate and hotel businesses, which he has consistently and spectacularly failed at.

The guy's primary value right now, and likely the source of his murky taxes, is to be a Russian proxy - an unwitting stooge for a bunch of Oligarch billionaires both laundering money through his ridiculous properties, and doing Putin's invasive dirty work on the global scene.

He had to spend millions of his own money getting this far, and you can tell from his ever increasing exasperation that he never had any intention of spending his own real money, and me and everyone else with a brain suspects he's living in debt, and that his billionaire lifestyle is as paper thin and fragile as his skin.

After this his brand will be shit. Rednecks and racists. Sure, reality TV, pyramid schemes, shit hotels for people who don't know any better, but the "rich Trump classy" aspect is fucking toast.

And he is going to lose the Trump university suit too. At which point I expect numerous other legal and financial houses of cards to start imploding. His current abject panic is likely based on that realization. The dawning horror that the gross mirage he's painted for decades is finally being undone under the glare of the media spotlight and the cold harsh light of day.

His taxes are probably a hot mess of debt, Russian investment and the glaringly obvious lack of billions in any meaningful sense.

If he wasn't one of the stupidest, most disgusting, pandering, lying sacks of creepy shit ever to spill out of the silver spoon closet, I'd almost feel sorry for him.

This "successful businessman billionaire who wants to make America great again," literally can't borrow money from American banks. What does that tell you about the depth of his business acumen?

I've said this a lot recently: America made it through the election of a black man named Hussein. Trump is no McCain or Romney and he likely won't comport himself with the same grace when he loses but I just don't see that lost inflaming tensions in a way that necessitates alarm or is somehow new territory for America. What, exactly, do you think his supporters will do? Riot? Start lynching people? Form a militia?

What?

Thank you for putting it into words better than I could.

Part of Trump's appeal is that people think if he gets elected, the money's going to start flowing. Trump's rich, he made tons of money, so if anyone can do it it's gotta be him. All these people long ejected from the disappeared middle class think Trump's going to open some gigantic money valve, and jobs will suddenly appear for everyone. And hey, maybe they can live the millionaire life, too!

Maybe I'm poor and don't know rich guy stuff, but... are the bottom of his pants hemmed up? Shouldn't he have custom suits...?

Donald Trump simply lacks the discipline and mental fortitude to endure a Presidential campaign. "Exhausted, frustrated and bewildered" perfectly describes him there, but I think we could squeeze in desperate too. And think, this is only August. He's buckling. He's like a great big senile and demoralized elephant stumbling around in the dark, ready to collapse from fatigue any second. Sad.

Exhausted frustrated and bewildered is exactly how I'd describe his tweets today. Fake winners always sound like real downer losers the second they're not ahead.
