Final Fantasy XV - 50 min video

Yep. Not because those games are ANY good, right?

All incredibly mediocre games with notable flaws that had five minutes of fame and were subsequently forgotten. Elevated by the perception of player agency.

Don't waste your time. He's basically damage controlling in case the game reviews well.

If the game goes well with the critics: "Open world games get free passes!"

If the game reviews badly: "Told you the game was a fucking mess!"

Can't win anyway, just let it go.

I forgot my tinfoil hat for this defense force.

This will be my first FF game and so far my impressions are:
World looks great, exploration in this world seems fun, characters are alright and why are there metal gears in this game?

The empire that invaded their home town used their crystal for war and invested in Magitek.

Platinum demo was also a tech demo comprised of small maps where it's easier to push visual fidelity compared to a large field or a city.

They are absolutely something to write home about, they're the best looking npcs out of any game of that kind. To the point where i've seen so many people use it as the gold standard.

Compare any of these to Glad's sister or that merchant or Cidney. Pretty big difference. No one is saying that FFXV looks terrible. But this video is not a good showcase for visuals.

Those look a lot better than Glad's sister - but they also look a lot better than the Witcher 3 PS4 NPCs I remember. Are you using PC footage here?

You are right. Sometimes I'd like to think people are playing dumb on purpose. Guess I should be more distrusting. :p

Is the "Your Highness" still in the game? I watched the video, but can't remember if any of it was mentioned.

I think so. Maybe Ignis gradually moves away from that and into more "bro" territory?

One thing this video confirms is the regions.

Leide, Duscae and Cleigne are the starting regions where Leide is a desert / rocky type while Duscae and Cleigne share the same terrain type.

Is that the world map? I don't see any roads leading off it, although it's missing some places,

So, what does the Engine Blade really do that makes it different? That's not the chainsaw, is it?

Also, loving the main menu. It feels pleasant, and somehow makes me really want a PS1 style Final Fantasy.

Engine blade is not the chainsaw, you can rest easy.

I mean, Shadow of Mordor is still being mentioned often for its Nemesis System. People generally liked the game (not on GAF so much I believe, but everywhere else they did).

I'm gonna start Heavensward this month. I played ARR with the JP dub cus I couldn't stand English, should I switch back over to English for Heavensward then?

They replaced basically every VA as well as the studio and voice director for Heavensward, if I recall. It's much better.

Probably helps that the writing in Heavensward is better than ARR (up until 2.3 or so) too.

I really don't understand the appeal for this kind of game-design. Everything about exploring the world and killing "small" enemies seems so boring and bland.

This video managed to bore me, and it was already edited to make things faster...

Too bad because I think that the world and story can be pretty interesting.

They hired a better cast. Some of the boss fights are more intense in Japanese (yelling out finishing moves
"Ultimate End"
while the English monologues instead) but the English VA is great from 3.0-3.2. 3.3 was a dip in quality.

No it's not.

I just started watching the video but I had to ask, what is up with him sliding across the ground at 1:20??? He's gliding but his feet aren't matching at all, that threw me off.

Well, that seems pretty standard RPG stuff to me. Killing small enemies so you can level up and face up to the biggest monsters and bosses, and then proceed with the storyline?

Does that sound weird?

Robots and Mechanical Suits are pretty much a standard Final Fantasy thing since IV. ;)

Nice, that's good to know! I'll switch to English then.

It's definitely missing quite a bit. Altissia is nowhere to be seen.

Yeah, maybe getting to the other areas requires flying or cutscene/story based movement. So far it's look pretty consistent with the model that was posted ages ago. I was worried they downsized it for a second.

I highlighted the three regions on the world map. There's still plenty of places to see.

EDIT: fixed the Leide western border.

EDIT2: Added the area of Episode Duscae.

I haven't played Heavensward yet but the voice acting ARR is truly terrible, of all the modern games I've played the voice acting in this game is easily the worst.

ARR English VA direction was truly awful. Worse than what we see of XV here.

So i watched it all, not hyped but i liked what i saw. NPCs look pretty bad overall. But got me interested.

Music is amazing (yeah i said it already but w/e)

That was a reaaally awkward utilization of their Stand By Me rendition in the beginning

Of course, there have been worse ways to play music on (COUGHMGSVCOUGH)

Also, I think that confirms Too Much Is Never Enough is the ending theme.

can you get the ps4 version of TW3 and not the pc version.

Fucking terrible voice acting. Ugh. Why couldn't they just hire the FFXII guy again? Thank goodness there's a Japanese option.

Rest looks ok to me. I'm still somewhat excited.

Anyone noticed Old Noct is wearing a leg brace like his father did? That's some Star Wars like rhymery unless it's just part of the uniform.

Pretty sure at least two of those are console, was very specific with my image searching. (PS4, PNGS).
