Resident Evil 7 biohazard - "Lantern" Gameplay Trailer

I mean this gameplay clearly shows you'll be hiding around at least one instance in the game. Which might already be more than some were wanting. Right now they haven't showed anything that really stands out from other games in this genre. That is what people are worried about..

based on the way this is set up, this is another "tape" like seen in the demo. ie. a flashback/different take on the events. my guess is the main game will see you have a persistent character, with consistent gameplay involving the usual shooty shooty stuff of the old games (we know there are weapons ranging from a pistol to a grenade launcher) or avoidance (much like you would often run around enemies in the old games to conserve ammo) tapes will give us backstory, and ultimately more emphasized elements of the core gameplay ie. playing as an unarmed girl trying to escape.

kinda like siren blood curse i guess. where some characters could arm themselves and fight back, but others, like the little girl, where completely vulnerable. it changes up the pace and introduces a TON more tension...plus it avoids the tired narrative element of "oh, i've suddenly lost all my guns, i now needs to play stealthy"

In my veins, most anticipated game currently. Big budget horror games aping Amnesia is one of my favourite things to happen.

Old school fans, you're still geting the RE2make. Over the shoulder fans, you got ports of 456, and Evil Within and Rev series. Let this FPS new wave also be a thing that happens.

I sure hope that's in first person too.

Just a reminder that this is just some found footage you will find and watch in game. We don't even really know anything about the actual gameplay itself aside from first person.

I think this looks cool. It's an interesting direction to take RE and looks spooky and scary and all that but yeah, it doesn't really look very Resident Evil. I mean, I know it's early and all that but I mean, it just doesn't have the same tone or feel of other RE games though I guess in a way that is good seeing the more "blockbuster" style they were heading with after 4 (as in 4->5->6 got more and more "action" oriented) and all the shooter spin-off games.

Still though, I liked the first demo and seeing as we aren't getting Silent Hills and PT is dead it is kind of nice to see a big budget game follow in its (proposed) footsteps. Plus I loved Alien Isolation so if this is a bunch of "hide from the monster" stuff with some light combat and full of tension then I'll probably like it.

The game looks really good actually. But come on it is really clear that the game is riding on P.T. hype and the marketing team definitely took some notes from that.

I mean really, the game is marketed via an obscure teaser that has no guidelines and no clear way to beat it, the enemy pops behind you seemingly out of the blue, and this!
Code:

[img]https://i.ytimg.com/vi/HMlK1DB7F1w/maxresdefault.jpg[/img]

The game might be radically different but from as far as marketing goes, there's no mistaking it RE7 marketing is heavily inspired by P.T.

If Silent Hills wasn't cancelled, would Resi 7 even remotely resemble what it does? I don't think so. Capcom are blatantly cashing in on the wants and needs of all those people who loved P.T. and had their dreams desperately crushed with the firing of Kojima. They're not even being subtle about it.

Looking forward to this. Based on the demo and this they definitely have atmosphere down. This is clearly another one of the found footage tapes that I assume will be in the main game to give backstory.

I'm definitely interested in the story. Getting Lisa Trevor vibes for some reason." And wonder what the hell umbrella has been up to.

I find it odd that so many people are against this those. The demo had a menu for item management. Still need to see combat but it's crazy because starting with Re4 as awesome as it was. The RE games after that were nothing more than 3rd person action shooters.

Honestly, if what you're describing is how the game plays out, I'd be totally cool with that.

I would be a lot more accepting of this new direction for Resident Evil if first-person avoid-y horror games wasn't already such an overcrowded market. The genre isn't very flexible and has already been completely played out, in my opinion.

Maybe I just haven't played that many, but I'm not feeling the fatigue at all, matter of fact it still feels fairly new to me. Alien and P.T would probably be in my top ten games this gen.

I've been assuming that Rev 3 or something like it was in development, maybe that's wrong.

IMO, they should take the interest and sales of the remakes as a cue to make a brand new, old school, fixed camera RE for the die-hards. Next, revive Dino Crisis for the over the shoulder action horror angle. That would be the best case scenario, I think.

It does seem that way . As I said I'll give them the benefit of the doubt but as it's stands the demo and gameplay given thus far hasn't sold me. RE to me is more than just scary

Those games sold millions of copies and are some of capcoms highest. It's not like everyone didn't like that action side of things.

Resident Evil 1 balanced exploration, puzzle solving and action in a series of very atmospheric locations.

So far Resident Evil VII has demonstrated the exploration and puzzle solving elements with no focus on the action. We know there is action based on the earlier trailer so I'm not worried yet.

If it were just a run away and hide horror game with Resident Evil puzzles, I think I'd enjoy it but be disappointed. The action element can be toned down back to RE1 levels, or even a little less. It is an important part of Resident Evil to me and it's interesting that they haven't detailed it yet. I'm looking forward to seeing more of the game.

They made Resident Evil great again. Finally.

Eh. I'm a diehard fan of the series, even the terrible games, but this doesn't really seem like all that interesting of a direction to go honestly.

I like some elements such as scaling it way back, but it doesn't really have anything that screams distinct RE personality right now.

This would've been like a killer Fatal Frame or Silent Hill game- or even a new series altogether.

This looks more like Haunting Ground than Resident Evil. Anyway I hope Capcom will reconsider and put in a third-person view mode.

Hope the release game isn't so blurry. Please work on the IQ.

the same happened in the reveal at sonys conference. it's almost like they're capturing the VR footage, which is making it blurrier then it is when playing without VR. the demo wasn't this blurry.

I really like what I'm seeing, really looking forward to this new direction.
Anyway, the game has been preordered and paid for since E3. Had to take advantage of that Canadian PSN $70 pricetag before they change their mind (and I already got $15 back from that week's PSN deal).

good thing we have no idea if this is an " avoid-y horror games" I mean we already know there is weapons in the game

weapon are in but its most definitly is an "avoid-y horror"

The evident comparisons and similarities with games such as P.T, Amnesia and Alien Isolation, just solidifies that Capcom really have had no fucking idea where to go with the franchise until these titles hit a chord with the public.

They may create something genuinely great, they surprise us all, but for the time being at least I find it somewhat underwhelming.

Fucking hell. This shit looks terrifying. I love it. I mean, I'm not gonna play it, cause it's too scary for me, but I am fucking happy that it exists. Go reclaim that horror genre throne, RE.

I guess that says a lot about how much of a different experience games are as compared to movies. I love horror films even though they don't scare me at all, but if it's a game, I just can't do it. I could barely get through the demo. Fucking ran out of the house as soon as I found the key. And I was playing in the afternoon.

You are right, but its working for me. I'm very interested in the game and I like the atmosphere so far. We shall see though.

in this "tape" it is. but i'd be surprised if this was the core gameplay throughout. all the info we have about the weapons and inventory suggest it still has plenty of combat opportunities. it's just maybe emphasizing the "survival" aspect with reduced ammo. i mean, evil within had a lot of avoidance/stealth, but i certainly wouldn't call that an "avoid-y horror" would you?

Still waiting for the combat and survival element that they promised.
I really don't want another Outlast.

The horror game formula of next to no survival elements + super basic stealth meachnics got old very quickly.

I really don't know what to expect from this game. I'll check it out for sure but I couldn't be any less excited. I really need to see some actual gameplay.

If this fucking game is a stealth hiding bullshit game like the horrible amnesia and all its crappy clones I will go crazy. Hiding is one of the worst mechanics in game history. It's RE, I have a gun I DONT NEED TO HIDE.

They better not screw this up.

I have to say I like this idea of "playing" videotapes.

Game itself looks more like Outlast than Resident Evil, but I take that over another RE 6

I couldn't agree more. Hopefully the main character is powerful and capable like Chris, Jill, Leon, Claire. I would be ok with the hiding crap being their own small segments you experience at various points throughout the game to see the fate of dead bodies you come across or something like that.

I honestly never knew so many hated this game. I totally get hating the games it inspired, but Amnesia and SOMA are awesome.

Something it also reminds me of is Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the atmosphere I mean anyway. The demo did that for me too.

Yeah I got that from Beginning Hour. I'm a real sucker for that sort of grimy, dilapidated, rural horror. Partly why I like the village section of RE4 so much.

Makes me laugh when people say "it's not Resident Evil", because it's exactly what happened before RE4 and then it became the best Resident Evil.
I, for one, welcome the change.

As a die hard fan of the OG games and someone who didn't get into the newer games I can understand a lot of the feelings people are having with this not being what they want from RE and sympathise with that.

But with that said as someone who had lost interest in the series in its current form this does have me intrigued at least to see what this RE will be like.

Maybe it sucks and RE8 goes back to more traditional style, or maybe it's great and we get something fresh and new in the RE series. All I know is I'm intrigued and want to see where this goes.

So this is another tape, but this time from the main game. So it would seem like we can control movement whilst watching the tapes, but there won't be any combat. But, things done in the tape may effect to "main" game.
Looks ok, but I'm no fan of hiding simulators. I hope this isn't all you have to do. Maybe I'm wrong, perhaps there are specific weapons available in each tape. Either way, I like the atmosphere, just SHOW US SOME COMBAT!

I am sorry but to me this is not resident evil just another 100000 amnesia clone out on steam right now,

My thought exactly. I miss Resident Evil 6 style believe it or not. But I will give it a try because It's Resident Evil.

I think the difference is that there are already a bunch of games out there that are doing this type of gameplay.

You know I played that till 3 in morning yesterday and even though I prefer REmake style it's not actually a bad game, obviously as I gave up on both Soma and Layers of Fear to play RE6 instead, says a lot really.

While the whole "found footage" section thing seems like a decent gimmick, with 6 months to go till release Capcom needs to actually show off some of the combat and the gunplay of this game stat. Considering that the E3 prologue demo and this footage has shown none of that so far they need to promote the more traditional aspects of the early games to really get as many of the long-term faithful fans on board as possible before release. So far the footage that's meant to promote and sell the game is focusing too much on one aspect of the game.

Hopefully Capcom back up their claims on some of the games old-school mechanics with actual footage of it soon.
