Resident Evil 7 biohazard - "Lantern" Gameplay Trailer

If this is purely a hide and seek game I hope its more like Alien and less like the others with more of a focus on moving around.

In Alien you had to constantly be on the move as staying in a single spot usually means the Alien won't leave so your forced to steathily move around the map.

Hopefully this "residence" is somewhat small (ala Spencer Mansion) giving players time to learn the map firsthand including all shortcuts and rather than sit in a corner and wait for not Lisa Trevor to investigate for a few seconds and leave they are forced to treat it more like a stealth game. Using the environment to move around in order to avoid detection when that girl is around and walking around normally and taking time to really memorize the map and plan escape routes when she's not around.

I also wouldn't mind actual zombies and combat. But I'm just hoping it isn't just sit in a corner and wait. Thats why I found Alien Isolation so refreshing.

Doesn't feel like the resident evil I know, plus I hate cheap jump scares. Will see though when it releases.

It's not broken at all, it's just different.

I can understand not liking it and I certainly see why people wouldn't want this type of experience in RE though.

No in terms of amnesia I think it's broken. I played outlast, that is a game with stealth mechanics that work. Enemies have actual patterns, they have rules that govern them. They stay in a location forcing you to plan an escape. If you are seen you have a way out by running. All the mechanics work well and it's interesting to play.

The monster in amnesia is mostly random, if it spots you need to run like crazy and it's faster than you so unless you somehow get some barriers between you it's death. He just leaves whenever he feels like, spawns whenever. There is no skill involved at all, just find a dark corner and wait for the music to stop. It's awful.

Really not understand peep that saying its looks more RE than 4-6

Sure those game take it to actiob route too far.. but its had the camp and named protag.. its just feel RE regardless the wrong direction.

Classic RE is never that scary either but its does legit thrilling than modern RE pull it wrong. Zombie as horror aspect is never meant like to scare you slowly. You want run from zombie, shoot the piece of shit of zombies not hidung or scared from random glance like its sadako from fatal frame. Its never like that in RE.

Looks like a complete reboot of the franchise, gameplay- and story wise.

Could be a cool game, but stealth/avoiding a strong monster doesn't interest me in the context of Resident Evil.

Not sold on this yet. Gameplay change worked well for Resi 4 but there was nothing like it at the time. Resi 7 will need to do something reeeeally special to stand out in first-person horror territory in this day and age.

This looks damn good. Fucking lmao at all the people crying about "this is not my resi", "pt clone", "this is amnesia"' "too late to the party" lol.

I know right!!! Fucking lmao!!! ROFL!!!

So would you not consider REmake to be classic RE? Because it actually tried to remove a good chunk of the camp from the original. It was also far darker and much more of a serious take on horror than any other game in the franchise. But many consider it to be the best entry in the series.

Agreed, my thoughts exactly. RE4 changed the series gameplay drastically, but also kept some elements of the older games intact. It was also very innovative for the time. I'm hoping there's more to RE7 than what's been shown, because what I've seen (and played) so far has been incredibly generic.

Implying RE6 wasn't the epitome of Generic already.

I was kind of excited but I dunno, shit looks wack. I hated Amnesia and Alien Isolation so maybe this isn't for me. I loved Outlast and SOMA though.

Looks way too much like Re4 in atmosphere an thats the worst thing to me, re4 was good once but the atmosphere and feeling was already too far away from RE

I still want that re 1/2 flavor and they just refuse to do it. Reminds me of nintendo and their current way of making games.

I dont know why devs refuse to try and make what people liked about their games to begin with (halo, re, mario etc)

We are so craving for it.

Of course people are going to whine about this, they just want their fzeros, star foxs to be added to, not remolded.

They've already confirmed it's not a reboot story-wise, the game takes place after RE6. They've said that the story will have you wondering what connection it has to the broader RE lore at first, but about halfway through it'll begin to make sense, or something like that.

Let's be honest, so many of you trashed RE 5 and 6 Capcom had to change something up. They obviously also don't want to do a complete retread of the original style. I'd say let's give it a chance, as of now we still don't kNow the main characters or overall plot aside that it takes place after RE6. Yes it's different but I had apprehensions of RE 4 and ended up loving it. I will say this has more of a chance to scare the ever loving shit out of me, which hasn't happened since REmake.

Imagine the textures and jaggies without all those camera filters.
Beyond not looking at all like previous RE titles, the larger problem is how try-hard it is. What happened to the dead silence and lack of banter in the previous demo?
I do not need large music crescendos or a woman's 'relatable' screams to tell me when to be scared.

This doesn't feel like RE.

They need to add a hedge maze where you can escort the presidents daughter as she runs from a giant crocodile while a midget shoots at you from an attack helicopter and you shoot back with your rocket launcher.

Without those sort of touches it just isn't the authentic horror game experience and I could understand why true fans would be upset.

The PlayStaton blog wording has me thinking...what if this is like an interactive file? Like, instead of just reading about the victims, you find tapes and get to play through segments where they get killed? Be an interesting twist to that, and it would make sense that it wouldn't represent the final game since it would be like a side section

Did you play the demo? What you described is literally how it plays out.

Im still looking forward to the game but yeah... this footage wasn't that great at all imo. they definitely need to show the combat off soon because im starting to get tired of the whole "I GOTTA HIDE" thing :/
Also to me it looked like it was being played in VR with the way the camera moved, but im not sure.

I hope running and hiding isn't the predominant gameplay type in RE7, it was my exact problem in Uncharted 4. Not enough of the fun gameplay and a lot of the boring gameplay.

Visually it looks super bad

Feels like any other horror walking simulator, but I loved Alien Isolation so hopefully this can live up to that

Like I said before even the new RE's are still Resident Evil at their core.
What ruins them is the monsters with Sniper rifles and machine guns that will pop up at the end of that ally, instead of a few infected hard to kill zombies or lickers stalking you while you walk down there," I'm sure Jake went down this way"
Another thing that's absent is the background music.
The fact that people can tell the music is playing at the wrong speed or doesn't belong in that section in REmake show you how important it was.
I said it before RE is made up of a lot things and is pretty unique both new and old style.
This had neither and only resembles a very common genre that everyone is doing in the indie scene.

Flashback videotapes might be how RE7 introduces new gameplay mechanics to the player instead of straight forward immersion killing in game tutorials. Giving these video a perspective of another person out of context could help pacing and could be interesting dlc add on stories post release

Never played the original but I consider REmake to be campy as hell and hardly serious. Most of that comes from the mansion design itself. It is really cartoony with all the dog collars being keys etc.

Can't say I am super excited for this game based off of the footage + demo. As a long time Capcom/RE fan I am willing to give it a shot before I write it off though. Hoping for the best.

This looks good so far. I had to endure Resident Evil Revelations 1 & 2, Resident Evil 4 (although I love this game), Resident Evil 5, and Resident Evil 6, all games I consider to be nothing like the original games.

If I had to endure this shit for over a decade and if what we've seen from this game so far upsets you, then kiss my ass.

I hope this game turns out amazing and severely disappoints a particular subset of you.

It is campy, but at the same time, the presentation and the gameplay scenarios make it a horror game. It's a very scary game.

I like this idea, too. And we know that there will be DLC for side stories as well, so that actually makes sense. I

I'm cool with it being first person but some if the details bother me.

1. It starts as camera footave but within 5 seconds we see both of the characters hands. Is she wearing a gopro?

2. What is scary about this lady with a lantern? I was watching on the phone so was she also carrying a knife or gun and I couldn't see it?

3. If the lady with a lantern is all that is scaring us, let me pick up the closest board and break it on her head.

I won't be able to get into a game where the character I'm playing is hiding from granny holding a lantern.

Still holding out hope!
