Revelations?

Better than top tier REmake + REmake2?

I'll say it's better than RE6 and ORC tho 😂

I am torn on this. Raid mode might be one of the best additions I've ever played in Resident Evil, quite possibly better than Mercenaries.

However, the Revelations 1 and 2 campaigns were both a bit...messy. I think constantly flashing back and forth between multiple characters and timelines, instead of just having Campaigns A and B, hurt both games' structure. A lot of people like to comment on how good the ship setting was, to which I highly agree, but people either ignore or don't remember the oddly placed the Chris snow missions and the office building missions in Rev 1.
You have to remember, Revelations 1 was originally made for the 3DS, the way they split the campaigns was so that you can stop playing if say your battery was getting low or you were playing to waste some time waiting on something and need to close up the console and go.

Funny enough I just recently bit the bullet and bought another N3DS XL (ex-friend stole my original) and started running through the game again and honestly I enjoyed the campaign a lot. Raid mode I've become addicted to as its really good, much better than the current extra modes we're getting from the remakes of the games. I don't know how RE4 remake did it but it took some of the fun out of Mercenaries mode.

Police Station from RE2 remake is peak Resident Evil. It was soo good, even the rest of the RE2R felt bland compared to Police Station but it is better than Revelations

RE1 to RE3, and RE1 Remake to RE3 Remake are still the best followed by Outbreaks and RE4 Remake/re4 and Code Veronica and then Rev. But I'll say Revelation 1 could have been the best or close to it if the budget was as high as a mainline game for it's time. Since a huge explorable ship has awesome potential if it was made explorable and metrovania similar to the old school RE game instead of being levels.

I don't agree with you but I can forgive this opinion. Only opinion I never forgive is saying Code Veronica is a good game, its easily the worst entry in RE history ( followed by Zero)
Nah. CV has some unfair difficulty spikes but that game is legit GOAT-tier when it comes to classic-era gameplay. The puzzles, inventory management, and routing, it really is a masterclass.

Story is retarded as can be but the OST is damn good.

Zero is pretty awful though, definitely agree on that.

RE3 Remake is the only RE I platted. Because its so much fun. Its the perfect game to beat overnight, and then start over and try to do better. It wasn't worth the full price, I bought it on sale instead. But it has the best protag, the best controls, and the best risk/reward evasion mechanics. Its a crime that this game didn't get its Mercs.

Its neutered compared to the original though (puzzles, choices, bosses and some areas), i am aware of that. RE3 original is one of my favourite games full stop. It was also perfect to replay due to the faster pacing and better gameplay compared to 1 and 2. Nemesis was a threat here, he popped up at fixed locations but would chase you until you left the area, or when he was put down. Which didn't just took 2 grenades here, but good ammo management or knife skills/exploits. In Remake he just pops up at the open area, until you finish that area. You can't outrun him, and you can't put him down forever in that zone. For the rest hes a fixed boss fight each time.

Rev came out at a dark time for RE. RE5 was a success but also heavily critized for forcing co-op. RE6 was deemed a train wreck. Rev 1 was probably good for a handheld game, i dunno. I played it on PS4. And it was a slog. That terragriria or whatever setting was terrible, and the story was offensively bad. Rev 2 actually had a decent setup with Alex, but she was undercooked and the game really falls flat if you play it in one go. There is a lot of repetitition, and the co-op side characters are quite gimped. Budget was obviously extremely tight, it looks very basic and it doesn't even run that well on PS4.

When they made Revelations HD (the port to home consoles/PC) I always thought it would have been a great idea to add a mode where you get to experience all of the ship section at once, then all of the snow section at once, then all of the office section at once, like some sort of ‘sequence mode’ or something.

sexy tactical wetsuits, claustrophobic ship, scanning kinda like in metroid prime... game was good.
fighting goo boys was kinda dumb though.
a full blown big budget remake could be amazing (add some decaying-in-water classic-style zombies, bigger ship, etc).

wasnt as good as mainline REs though

Nice write up.

Random thought: I like the PS3 version of Rev2 over PS4. It's doesn't have the clarity of PS4 but I think that lends better to the overall art style.

Yea, the flashback sequences are really bad.

Killing mobs of hunters on linear paths. Disrespectful to hunters and also boring. Chris falling in the snow and having to just sit there as you do an arcade style sequence is terrible game design.

Rev1 and RE6 are two games that improve when you play with Italian audio. Each game jumps the shark in terms of story and Italian voices gives it a nice Euro Horror/Camp vibe. Easy to just laugh at rather than roll your eyes.

For me Resident Evil 8 is a close second

Which is a surprise since I hardly play any FPS

Having to go through that haunted house with the creepy doll and creepy ass Demonic Baby Fetus thing was scary as fuck. And taking away your guns at the beginning of that section so all you can do is run and hide. Capcom you Sly Bastards

I played all the mainline Resident Evil Games including the Revelations games three years ago for the first time
Resident Evil Vampire GIF

Nine foot tall giant tiddy vampire didn't hurt the game either.

I enjoyed Revelations 1 quite a bit - especially Jill section mostly, especially first half. Setting was great and felt like more older RE series than RE6.
Story itself is okay, tried to be like TV drama series with segmented flashbacks etc - but not sure if it really helped out the whole experience.
