Considering that my wife gets harassed every single damn time she leaves the house without me, I wouldn't put it past a pervert to wank it on the bus/train. I live in Los Angeles, and take public transportation every day, and I've definitely seen people fondling themselves on the bus, even if they didn't whip it out and jerk it.

Another, much simpler answers, is that she was mistaken. We have no idea what she saw; she could have mistaken a gesture for something else (in a manner reminiscent of this myth)
It's also possible he was doing what he was accused of. But I've seen enough people make mistakes in my life that I'm not going to damn him myself without evidence of what he's accused of, even if the odds may be in the woman's favor (though I have no idea what those odds actually would be...)

Damn ok I concede that there's no evidence at all, unless the dude on the fly zipped up..his fly as he was getting up. But his reactions were a little weird after the lady started going all out on the man. But if that poster who says he knows the guy is honest, I can see why he would have tried to ignore the lady screaming bloody murder at him.

Well, yeah, of course she could be mistaken. He could also be a big pervert. At the end of the day, none of this discussion is really going to affect this guy, because the vast majority of us will never cross paths with him, or interact with him in any way, or be in a position to affect his life in any way.
And how is her being mistaken a simpler answer than him being caught jerking off? I think both are equally plausible, especially considering that behavior like that is pretty common in public transportation.
The odds being in her favor are actually pretty simple, and can be completely gleaned 100% from this video:
1) He never denied her accusations. Most people reflexively respond to untrue accusations, no matter how loudly the accusations are being hurled at him.
2) He was holding the backpack over his lap, with one hand hidden behind it during the early part of the video. When he stood up to get off of the bus, he kept his back pack covering his lower area, and only moved it when his long shirt was pulled down over his zipper.
This is going to be TMI, but I remember being in class and getting a woody just as the class bell rung. I stood up with my backpack covering my dick so no one would see and make fun of me. This guy's behavior was very similar, although, naturally, nobody can say with 100% certainty what happened, but this guy's response to the accusations points more to him being guilty. And no, "'scary' black woman yelling" isn't enough to warrant the guy not defending himself. If I was accused of being a pervert in front of a bus/train full of people, you better be damned sure I'm going to at least shout a "I didn't do that?!" Ultimately, it doesn't matter. The incident happened, and either he did it or he didn't. Our opinions on it won't affect things either way.

Considering how common it is to harass women in public/push hard on's against them on the train/flashing, I doubt 'masturbating in public' is a sign of a mental illness. People do it for a cheap thrill, not because they can't help themselves.

To add to this I've known numerous people including both of my brothers who, if put in this situation wrongfully, would be mortified to the point of not being able to get more than a squeak out.
I assume the lady is correct in what she saw if only because no other "straphanger" (ugh...) said otherwise but if your only reason to think he's guilty is his lack of defense you need to meet more people. Everyone handles things differently.
