what jrpg are you playing right now ?

Breath of Fire 2 is on board next, then when the new semester of school kicks in I'll be playing SMT: Nocturne since that is a huge game, should last me awhile.

Been thinking about grabbing that one....have you already played it before? What's the general consensus on SMT: Nocturne Vs SMT: DDS1/2

what's your definition of long? took me less than 40 hours to beat the story. didn't bother with postgame.

general consensus here is Nocturne > DDS. well, more like Nocturne > all. I'm more an odd duck here. I think DDS1 is better than Nocturne, just more fun to play because of the party members and their personalities.

Well I guess DDS it is I'm a sucker for plot that involves more personalities. I can always come back to Nocturne afterwards if it drags.

Last time I played it was around 60 hours and coming from some of the jrpgs I've completed this year, 40+ hours is long. My latest playthrough of Xenogears is reaching to 60+ since I'm doing everything

34 hours in Persona 4. I'm playing everywhere, commutes included in hopes of beating it before the summer ends, but it's taking forever.

Although Dungeons were my favourite part of the game, By the time I have begun the
Videogame Dungeon
they are finally starting to get boring and repetitive. For the first time I'm feeling underleveled and normal enemies are getting harder, with no easy weaknesses to exploit and for the first time my party has been wiped by a normal enemy (so it is starting to feel like a Megaten now)

At least I am not forced to use specific characters, and I hope I don't have to split into two groups for the final Dungeon. Teddy feels Redundant having Yukiko for Healing, although it feels like he is the replacement for Chie when it comes to Ice magic.

Finally finishing up Ys: The Oath in Felghana

Things started picking up after I finally got through this hellish area and beat the boss.
https://gfycat.com/WhichPlumpAustraliankelpie (One of many failed attempts, thought this ended pretty funny though. First time seeing that last attack the boss used.)

The next area is so much better thankfully.

Oh God Quarantine second half...

- Complete four different dungeons. There isn't basically any story during this part, you just need get to the end to beat a Data Bug for a special core in each dungeon...
- Once you did these four dungeons, you can access the final area. This area is basically made almost entirely (like 99%) of Data Bugs, meaning the you will be constantly praying the game doesn't give you a random game over or takes exp for you in the last floors. @_@

I've been playing Fire Emblem Fates for like 150 hours and I still have the end of Conquest and all of Revelation left to do. And I still haven't burned out, I love this game.

I just hope you like grey, the areas in DDS can get very repetitive after a while. The story and music are very good though

Beat the Ethereal Queen and also got a sizable amount of trophies in SO5. So now I'll put that one to bed. Extremely disappointing game for me, especially as far as the battle engine went (too many flashy spell effects making it impossible to tell wtf was going on). By far my least favorite in the series (yes I did like 4).

Exactly this.

In Persona 1 the dialogue decision seem super innocuous and don't actually come into effect until about 6-7 hours down the road. You'll literally never realise you made a mistake unless you have a guide open.

Just finished Dark Cloud. A few days ago i wanted to play something from my older backlog, so i plugged my ps2 to the old crt i still use just for sd consoles.
Very repetitive game, the combat is shallow, the randomly generated dungeons are kinda boring and it feels like exploring always the same dungeon from the beginning to the end of the whole game.
Story is very simple but enjoyable, and building towns is nice but very simple.
Nothing special then, but i just could not stop playing until i've ended it. Took me 30 hours.

Now i'll get back to Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, i was at chapter 4. I'll try to finish this and Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth before DQVII remake arrives.

The future arc in Tales of Graces f. It took some time getting used to the combat after Tales of Xillia, but I'm doing fine now.

Also grinding titles.

Getting deeper into Persona 4 Golden (my first Persona ever).Overall i enjoy it even though i feel there are some things i don't quite understand.I just hope i don't get stuck due to not fully understanding some of the game's systems.

Golden Sun 1, man, the dialogue are even worse than I remember.

Especially the intro, did the writers ever see two human beings talking to each other?

At least the dungeons are solid.

What don't you understand? I'm about to beat Persona 4 for the first time. Regular Persona 4 for PS2. I heard Golden is a lot easier.

Caught between playing several different games again and haven't been able to focus on one since I beat Lufia 2. *sigh*

Namely: Grandia, Lunar 2, Shadow Hearts: Covenant, Dragon Quest 3, Baten Kaitos.

My biggest problem is that i'm not really understanding how fusion works and generally the whole Persona system...so far the Personas i have created are kinda lame and i feel that their abilities are overlapping a lot with each other. Is the main character the only one who can switch between Personas? Also i'm not sure i understand the purpose of registering Personas and how the skill card system works...
Oh and i'm not sure how to balance my time in the game and this makes me a bit stressful...should i focus more into day activities and reinforcing my relationships or should i revisit the dungeons and grind?

Currently i've recruited Kanji into my team so i guess i'm still early in the game?

Yeah spend some time getting used to the systems. You're at the part I consider the tutorial for that.

When it comes to personas I just try and get the highest stats I can and make sure I register my personas regularaly so I can summon them back if I need a specific skill

I'm still vainly trying to beat SMT4 again before SMT4 Apocalypse is out. I'm about to head to Ikebukuro so I think I'm about 1/3rd of the way in the game. I'm on Veteran mode going with a more structured form of my Luck based build from last time (+3 Luck, +1 Agility, +1 Str/Tec/Mag) so it's gonna be a haul.

I got a Vita a couple months ago and played Persona 4 Golden for the first time. It absolutely blew me away. I had never touched a Persona game before playing Golden, and honestly hadn't played too many JRPGs before it either.

Now I'm on my second playthrough of P4G, and having never played any Final Fantasy games all the way through, I decided to play through the whole series in order (so I'm doing the GBA version of FF1 right now.) I also went ahead and bought Persona 3 FES on my PS3 for when I decide I want to do that. Can't believe how badly I've neglected the JRPG genre for so long. Hoping to do some serious catching up!

Wrapping up the sidequests in I Am Setsuna before fighting the final boss. Some of these optional encounters are quite challenging, even after doing a bit of grinding.

Solid game, maybe not the dream followup to CT everyone wanted, and certainly has its share of flaws (lack of variety in music and locales, strange balance issues, obfuscated gameplay systems like Momentum/Fluxes, long dungeons with minimal save points), but it's a breath of fresh air in a gaming industry that has seen better days, and a great first game for a developer. Really looking forward to whatever Tokyo RPG Factory does next.

I never beat the Elite Four in Pokemon Y and kind of wanted to do that before Pokemon Moon in November, so I'm doing that now. Also got some legendaries like Shaymin and Manaphy through the Mystery Gift I can sent over to Pokemon Moon.

Hoping to finish that before Dragon Quest 7 in September. It's going to be my first Dragon Quest so I'm really looking forward to that.

Then Pokemon Moon in November and Persona 5 in February.

And that'll probably be my gaming for the next 6 months haha. Good thing about long ass RPG's, it saves you money because you have no time to play anything else.

I'm running through Shin Megami Tensei IV right now, about 25 hours in and cannot put it down, it's interfering with my Monster Hunter Generations time!

Planning to finish before Apocalypse comes out but I'm really taking my time and enjoying it.

Currently doing a LTTP with Final Fantasy IX on the Vita.

So far really enjoying it!

I recently did VII for the first time, and then tried playing VIII for the second time ever (played it about 15 years ago) before abandoning it and skipping onto IX.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions, never thought I would cause of the no dub thing, but glad I did cause it really is a good game. I like everything about it. The music, the UI, the dungeons so far have been great. And challenging, the first real boss giving me trouble.

I'm currently rolling with the Etrian Odyssey Series by Atlus.
Specifically Etrian Odyssey Untold 2: The Fafnir Knight

Though, when Etrian Odyssey 5 comes out. I'm hoppin' on that shit immediately.

Last night I started a new game of FFVIII because of this thread. I've replayed it tons of times, but it's been many years since the last. Pretty sure the last time was shortly before FFXIII released in Japan.

Was thinking of buying Final Fantasy X for PC having never played it on PS2. How does it hold up mechanically to modern games ? Is the story good ?
