Titanfall 2 Multiplayer Technical Test Impressions (XB1/PS4)

They changed so much of what was perfect and great, instead of just adding to and improving a good game. It's like they listened to the wrong feedback from other games and tweaked the game in all the wrong ways

This is gunna be bad for Respawn..I can already predict poor sales. Being multiplatform this time around is not gunna be their lifesaver this time.

Reached level 9 and I think I'm done with this for now. Unless they do listen to feedback, this has gone from a GotY contender for me straight to wait for a PC sale for the campaign.

Unfortunately I feel the same way.

Such a shame, I want to like this game but it's just not nearly the revelation that first game was.

It's all very nonsensical.

Really hope IW is listening. Hell, at this point, I would rather them delay the game, get out of the crossfire of BF1/COD and actually release I good TF sequel.

At this point, I think they are sending the franchise to its death with all of these horrible decisions.

This a thousand times.

If the maps are this quality at launch, delay the game and reconsider some of these design decisions, I desperately want to love this game but it feels off.

I didn't play the first one, but I was incredibly hyped for it to come to PS4 so when this game rolled around I was incredibly excited, but these maps and slowed down movement options just aren't doing it for me. Hopefully the others are better, but they just have a horrible flow and too much time is spent on the ground.

The game isn't bad by any means but it just isn't exceptional, I was expecting to addicted to this since I love the concept, but instead of being overwhelmed I just find myself being whelmed.

On the bright side, the grapple hook is cool. So yeah, there's that.

Just played an hour or two. I, man, I didn't like it.

This might be really hard to put into words, so bear with me. The game feels inconsequential. Hardpoint was my jam the first time around. Grabbing and contesting felt challenging and rewarding. Here, it feels like a race to see the other dude first. Whoever does that, wins.

Maybe it was just the map selection for the test, but I also felt the Homestead map is far, far too open for this game. What good is being able to run on walls and jet all over the place if you're in a big field with a one-shot sniper rifle in your opponents' arsenal?

Finally, I feel like Titans come too slowly and don't turn the tide of battle as well as they should. It has to be one or the other in my mind. If they come after waiting so long, they better be powerful. They're weak, and that makes me think they should come more often.

I don't know. Hard pass right now for me, and I adored the original.

I'm looking forward to checking out this for myself. I never touched original TitanFall so this may be a case of "Ignorance is bliss."

You know what I feel right now? This feels like playing Halo 4 back in 2012 again. It is a good game on its own right but oh boy how many marks does it miss regarding to the legacy of its predecessor(s).

All the people that complained about the bots on the first game clearly never played Titanfall they are key to the pace of the game
They were a very important mechanic, they were a resource. And I don't understand why pander to the wrong crowd by removing them. The way they function in Bounty Hunt isn't even similar to R1. And it's so obvious, especially when I can play a whole match of Amped Hardpoint, top kills, without a single Titanfall from either side.

I've often compared it to that when talking with my friends about it, however I think it's also similar to what Battlefield: Hardline did.

That sounds horrible

I think the important thing to remember is that this is a tech test, there are actual months left before official launch. Things like parkour speed and behavior as well as the number of grunts could easily be changed yet. While the titan's will probably remain the same the timers and bonuses on how they are earned could be changed up too.

I am stoked to go home and play it and come up with my own impressions. I loved the 1st game but felt like it needed more. I personally think this looks like a better game IMHO.

Things already look bad because this is launching against Battlefield 1, which is getting crazy hyped and likely will be getting majority of the marketing from EA.

Besides that, they are disappointing alot of the fans of the original

this just sounds like you never mastered the game.

the AI were useless, they didn't get in your way, they didn't detract from anything.

so tired of hearing this argument.

They could and would capture unguarded points on the map which made them good in some situations, they were the human soldiers while the players were superheroes and it was a great contrast to have.

Let me start by saying that TF1 is one of my favourite games of all time. I've reached Gen 10 on both 360 and XBO and have put more than 200+ hours into it. I was hyped from the trailers they released a few months back but after downloading the trial earlier I'm crushed.

It feels like Titanfall in places, but not at the same time... if that makes sense?

My mains gripes are:

Titans feel far too slow and cumbersome - they no longer have the aura and power behind them when you're in them - which is awful when you consider how long it takes to earn one to call in. With the lack of shields it feels like such little payoff for how long they last in the battlefield. Focus seems to have moved more towards the pilots - which goes against the name of the game :?

I hate that they've now added a red and blue outline around the pilots. Makes it far too easy to be spotted and just makes you feel like you're in a simulator rather than a war with that feature - which the addition of 3rd person executions also feels like. It was so cool in TF1 entering titans in first person view and ripping a pilot out of their cockpit and crushing them in your bare hands. Seeing my Titan kill another in 3rd person just doesn't have the same impact to it this time round as it's not happening through my eyes.

Bounty Hunt is not a poor game mode - apart from the map being incredibly sparse (the lack of AI all around the map really hinders this), it promotes camping as players sit on your bounty box and pick you off when you try to deposit.

Matchmaking is also awful - so many games where I've been thrown into a battle where it's 5-2 which you stand no chance of winning as a 2v1 battle with Titans always favours the numbers in this one compared to TF1

Really disappointing - might pick it up once it drops in price, or just stick with TF1 and Overwatch

Man, I really really wanted to love this. Titanfall was my jam 2 years ago and I just am not feeling it now. :( The TTK is absolutely ridiculous and the maps really don't cater too well to chaining together wall runs. If Attrition is not in the game at launch with bots like TF1 I'm not sure I'm going to pick this up. I'm usually pretty optimistic about these kinds of things and usually trust the developers in the changes made but I just can't for this, which is too bad. Hoping for some improvements by launch but there doesn't seem to be enough time to actually make a big enough difference.

No kidding. I get to see for myself in a few hours. I still want to believe it can't be that bad!

I was right there with ya. I wanted to believe... so badly...

Disappointment of the year, by far for me. I know its not out yet, but unless the retail release is almost a completely different game than this almost...

It truly seems like they implemented some changes based on the haters of TF1. There were so many people asking for Pilot vs Pilot when such a mode would be a borefest. Some people also complained when a good titan player dominated a match (majority weren't good).

I still have 100% faith Respawn will take the feedback to heart and make the game better. I wish them nothing but the best.

I'm coming around a little bit more.

Wow that looks hot

Ive never talked up the original much, but it's a fantastic game. After playing this beta, I went back to the original on XBone. It's so much better I can't even compare the two. Aiming is better, maps better and more varied, TITANS ARE ACTUALLY PRESENT AND FUN TO USE, ttk seems right for pilot v pilot/titan v titan/titan v pilot, etc. I'm just glad the beta reminded me to go back and play more Titanfall 1. Respawn, why?

TF1 had the best, most fun core gameplay loop of any mp shooter this generation.

Yup. All i really wanted of it was more stuff personally. If it was TF 1 with just more maps, titans, weapons and customization but all other core aspects the same. Id be 100% satisfied. Going to be able to try this in a few hours. Excited to see how it is!

I wonder if these bad impressions are going to impact the game launch date.

Honestly at this point they need to push the game back to Q1 2017 and do the changes to make Titanfall 2 feel Titanfall again.

But I'm pretty sure the game will stick with the launch date :/

Oh well, there's still Battlefield 1.

But man, I really wanted Titanfall 2 to be a step forward in the franchise.

In all honesty there is not enough to get a sense of what the rest of the game is gonna be. Like its very basic in what tools you can use and weapons you have available and the maps themselves feel like a couple of drops in a pond.

I like the movement but it doesnt flow as easily as the first one, grunts do need to come back in full force they speed up Titan drops tenfold, the timer in this case needs to come back as well.

Positives are the layout of the menus is much better, you can see things more clearly and the gunplay is still fantastic, titans are still fun to use just I would prefer a shield a maybe more access to the rest of the upgrades, its way to barebones so hopefully next weekend we see that.

Aso of right now Im still sold on it because there's a ton of potential I just think in response to the first game burning people out quicker they added features behind the progression system to slowly get there. We also definitely needs the more city like maps to really get the parkour system in full.

I don't know what changed, but from yesterday to today this game feels much better. I think it just took some getting used to along with playing hardpoint instead of bounty hunt. I played all the modes in the last one, but bounty hunt is terrible, to me at least.

Not enjoying this as much as I had hoped. I have only had time for a few games though. So I'll put more time in this weekend. TF1 had me hooked instantly though.

I hope the first person camera can return for entering Titans. It was so cool.

I agree, and I've asked a dev about it being an option to have the titan entry/melee kill remain first person. They said the feedback would be forwarded on.

Base movement does indeed feel slow which is ironic when you consider how big the maps are now and how little verticality they have

Barely any spots to wall run too

They oddly complicate things. Amped Hardpoint is just going to slow the game down compared to normal hardpoint

I just don't get how a game called Titanfall fucked up the titan part so badly as to basically remove them from the game. I can't get over it. They're exceedingly rare, less fun to use, easier to kill, and you can't customize them. How? Just astounding.

That's another issue.

I don't really see how you are expected to navigate these maps without the grappling hook. They seem poorly designed.

Well they never fixed the terrible Skilled Based Matchmaking that killed TF1, so I don't really hold they to a high regard.

Why make the Pilots glow? =(

1. Totally agree, it just feels gimped, especially on Homestead, what a boring map ):

2. Again, both maps suffer from this, but Homestead especially does. Who thought big open fields would be a good idea?

3. Yep. Let's make a game about movement and fluidity and introduce a mechanic that makes you literally stand in place for a minute to cap an objective. Baffling :\

I really hope they add CTF because I just don't like these modes we have to choose from/
