Titanfall 2 Multiplayer Technical Test Impressions (XB1/PS4)

Slower movement, pilots bring highlighted with less distractions etc. Is probably making it easier for people to get kills. On the side of the killed, it seems like everyone is more hostile.

At least, a lot of my TF1 gameplay was full of people constantly missing me.

I can't wait to give my own impressions if I have time.

I think the maps being empty from bots is affecting a lot too.

Is there no way to invite friends? On x1 tried through party invite and stuff. Invite friends doesn't do anything in game.

Gameplay feels OK, but I really just want to play attrition. Maps are pretty bad. So far I've gotten the big open one three times and the city one once. That big open one is god awful, there are pretty much no good pilot routes on the map. I also much preferred the way titans were handled in the previous game, with you being able to customize loadouts on different titan frames.

Gave the tech test about 2 hrs on ps4, not really feeling it. Not really liking the change to rodeos. Is there anyway now to get an enemy pilot off you short of getting off the titan and shooting them? I remember being able to pop a defensive smoke in the first game. Wonder if they've disabled a bunch of titan customization or do each one have preset weapons.

They're pushing for Titans being hero characters basically so yeah seems like there won't be as much customization on them.

This feels like a step backwards for this franchise. Many things feel off, changes have been for the worst.
Not buying this game on this state.

I'm baffled at what Titanfall 2 is. I don't understand how they could miss by this much. Pretty fucking bummed as the first was my favorite multiplayer game in the last decade.

They've actually responded to some. If they're decent devs, they'll check out any constructive criticism and note that or possibly address it, which they have.

Yeah for sure, I mean that should be the whole point of a beta. But I'd be surprised if they overhaul something as core as the movement physics, they seem to have changed that for a reason. But if it's like a unanimously disliked thing, who knows.

Legit criticism. The time-lapse videos of camping 'C' with no action for 5 minutes have been seen. Heads have nodded knowingly. Betterment will happen.

Amped Hardpoint doesn't have the right earn rates right now. That'll be fixed (in a server update) soon. This mode was originally scheduled to go live for weekend #2, not #1, so there was no rush to get those correct configs in. And now-!
So yes. Expect to see a lot more titans (by design) in that mode soon.

Saw this a lot here, might be the most puzzling. The R-201 Carbine in this build has the same fire rate as last game's R-101, and same hits to kill a pilot at standard range. There aren't a ton of guns in this test, so what's driving people to think this?

To know Ronin is to love him. To pair Ronin with his twin is god-tier teamplay.

Only the foolish.

Not to jump down your throat, but what were you thinking by abandoning attrition and the AI bots on both sides? if you were terrible at the game you could still contribute by killing bots, turning them into neutral creeps between rounds is awful. I'm sure you've already read the feedback about the titans, how their health works, how you earn them, so I won't comment except as to say - the whole teamwork grapping health and putting it into your teammates titan instead of having a regenerating shield, it simply doesn't work as you envisioned it.

This feels like an entirely new developer took over and missed what made the first so special entirely. Perhaps tf1 was an accident?

Yeah I'm not feeling this at the minute, which is kind of upsetting given how much I adore the first one.

But I've only really played Pilot v Pilot which defeats the purpose, they should have put Attrition up straight away.

Also, am I the only one who is yet to complete a game? Every game I've played so far the server has ended up dropping out.

Amped weapons possibly

Respawn has seem to come down with the 343 disease, changing mechanics and gameplay that were fine before and that no one asked to be changed. Game is a step down from T1

Played a few games and you guys were right. To me the game just lack personality and just doesn't seem as fun as the first. It's almost like a new developer made the game and it's just titanfall in name only.

I know it's a beta but I cannot imagine the full game is all that much different. Think I am going to skip this game.

I loved loved loved the first Titanfall, but i am not feeling this one yet. I do not like the way, how you get your titan now. It is very anti-hype. Hope there will be a classic mode, where you get your titan the old way.

I mean, Titanfall is all about Titans, but now it feels like they are not the focus, because they way how you have to get a titan. Also most people play pilot VS pilot without titans lol.

Also do not like the maps.

Let me guess, you hated Bots in Titanfall.

Well considering Titanfall 1 lost 90% of is population in a month, I figure they thought they needed to try something different with the gameplay.

Not saying I agree with the changes made, but I understand why the game feels different from TF1.

I have enjoyed the few hours I've played over the last few days, but it isn't something I can see myself buying. I wish I could play the first one, as it seems like it's a much better version of this going by numerous posts in this thread.

This is a somewhat minor point, not even related to actual movement and gameplay. But the game is quiet. Talking mainly Hardpoint here. From something like the way your commander announces things, it's missing that character. The fight. Having their portraits pop up. Them being leaders. Or the switch of command depending on where you were in the "campaign". It was a unique detail, that really made it feel like a war.

And then, there was the banter the grunts and specter would bring. Screaming, fighting, calling out enemy Titans and pilots. It brought life into the battlefield. I wasn't just playing a glorified TDM, no- this was a battle of Attrition. Everyone was fighting to the last breath, including the grunts who were dragging one another off the battlefield. They were alive. And R2 is missing that life that both the command and the grunts brought.

got some great kills with the grappling hook today. Maybe it's just my play style but I still think it's a bit more OP than the other skills.

Yep, canceled pre-order. This went from a must purchase to a wait-and-see. Not at all trusting the direction that they are going.

I don't think we're gonna see any major overhauls at this point for sure, which is sad from what I've played.

We got matches that play out with no titans falling in a game named Titanfall

this is serious fam
Working title:

Titanmightfall

I guess maybe I'm too forgiving because I actually had fun with it. In general I don't mind the flaws most people find abhorrent in movies or games.

All entitled to different opinions.

So I'm sure so many people will disagree with me here and that's fair, but I feel like this game would way better if it kept the bots and dropped the titans all together, replacing them with further mobility boosts for performing well. The mobility is kinda fun but it feels hampered by level design accommodating the titans.

Exactly how i feel.

I feel like you definitely didnt play Titanfall 1

Can't believe how disappointed I am in this. I was so jazzed too...

Everything feels off. The movement, the damage, how empty it al feels. I hate the customization options, I hate the floaty jumps. What happened? I read a few impressions saying it feels like COD now, but even COD feels better than this.

So bummed by this....

I played about an hour of it, not much to be honest as it wasn't really my thing. Like I said I expect people to disagree, I just feel they ruin the pacing and I can't stand the way they control, but by not using them I leave the team at a disadvantage. I'd rather not have to use them.

How does this compare to Titanfall 1?

I'm a bit disappointed to be honest, strange that they kept it on the Source engine. It feels like it suffers from that.

It's fun to play, but it feels so limited. And there are some details I miss, when I'm in a mech I want to be able to crush vehicles or small cement barricades, but nothing happens. It feels very static.

Seeing a lot of negative feedback from forums and the faithful fans in the subreddit /r/titanfall.

I haven't touched the game myself, but the many options of others is worrying.

As some one who only has experience with BLOPS3's wall running, TitanFall 2's feels mushy and too smooth? It's like I am gliding. I wish the sound design of it was better as well. The TTK is low but not out of line with BLOPS3 I think. I agree, the grappling hook is way too slow though.

Had a good time in Amped Hardpoint, but just doesn't have the same grab or feel nearly as good as TF1. Controls feel slower and more floaty. Bounty was horrible IMO, way to much camping (ironic with my name right), especially for a Titanfall game.

Very true. Feels lifeless and doesn't serve this game well IMO. Slower gameplay + less going on / more player visibility changes the entire feel of the game. Hence slowing the game down, more camping and making it seem like TTK has been decreased. Plus the absence of Titans only slows/quiets the game down further. Puzzling decisions IMO, especially when Respawn should be doing as much as possible to distinguish itself with COD and Battlefield launching so close as well...

after playing for few hours i'm really enjoying my time with it, not as good as TF1 but still good

me buying the game depends on how good\bad BF1 beta is

it feels like everytime time when a MP game turns out really great, the sequel to it ruins everything that was good in the previous game, such as Uncharted 2 MP to Uncharted 3 MP, MGS 4 MP to MGS 5 MP, BF Bad company 2 to BF3, Killzone 2 MP to killzone 3 MP

all i wanted from TF sequel is to keep everything untouched and just add more weapons, items, titans and maps, but that's not what happened with TF2

hopefully BF1 doesn't disappoint as well

I've only played a single match and the tutorial, but I loved it. Didn't really know what I was doing regarding the objective, but just had fun shooting things and moving around, game feels really good.

I killed like 20 pilots, died like 3 or 4 times. I guess people aren't good at the game at the moment.
