Titanfall 2 Multiplayer Technical Test Impressions (XB1/PS4)

I wish you could shoot while grappling. One thing that Blops 3 did that I really appreciated was the "Guns up" approach. There was hardly ever a moment that you couldn't shoot your gun.

these impressions are really disappointing,

cant believe some of the changes theyve made to this game. the first game was so good. it really sounds like they're making the game worse...

I enjoyed TF1, though didn't get into the community heavily. But my understanding was that the issues most people had with the game were about content, customisation and single-player. I though the general consensus was that they absolutely NAILED the gameplay re. movement, shooting, Titans etc. Maybe I'm wrong on that?

They did. It's so fast and fluid and easy to pick up that it still handles amazingly compared to other FPS on the market.

I'd echo what others have said about campers too. There were very few campers on TF1, yet in this I've come up against so many that it's caused me to switch it off and just wait until next weekend to see if they can improve this.

This has gone from a day 1 purchase to bargain bin for me. They just haven't gotten it right. Changed all the wrong things since the original.

I only have one question (sorry if it's been answered before): where's the smart pistol? I suppose with less AI soldiers running around it's a bit less relevant, but still I miss it.

Titanfall 1 felt very cool and unique at the time and still does for the most part and it was merging two types of combat into one, on foot you were fast with very similar feelings to other fast ADS shooters and then you had the titans which had recharging shields, bigger HP pool and you needed a little more stratagy in battles since they lasted much longer then pilot v pilot.

Something which seems to have been forgotten in the Titanfall 2 beta so far.

A lot of the changes in the beta seem to have messed with the core of Titanfall's combat, you earn mechs slower, they die faster, the entire rodeo system is now all about stealing power from one mech to add to another and even then the health given is minimal, they have redesigned titans to not have half the survivability they used to have and it's terrible. And this is not including other nerfs and tweaks to the sandbox the first game had going for it.

they got the hipfire right, picking off pilots at medium rang with no ADS with R-201

please dont change this

Is it just me or the range on the carabine is waaaaaaaaay to good?

I remember reading a couples week back that the game should be delayed a bit to let it have a chance to succeed. N ow I think they should delay it to change a lot of the core ideas of the game. :/

They did. This game doesn't seem like it was made for the people who loved the first game. I hate the movement for both pilots and titans in this game. The game feels way too slow. Pretty much all my complaints have already been mentioned in this thread. Titanfall 1 was pretty much my favourite FPS this gen, this game however isn't for me. I'm cancelling my pre-order unfortunately.

Tf1 always felt like a cod- styled shooter but with it's own DNA. It was all about fast movement, verticality and freedom of movement enabled by parkour, massive scale battles with loads of ai fodder, and the regular inclusion of fun to use and useful titans all within very well crafted maps supporting all of this.

Tf2 removed virtually all of this and now feels like cod but with some parkour and occasional robots. It's lost what made titanfall it's own thing. It's slower, maps are wide open limiting the movement the amazing movement of the first game and promoting camping, ai bots are all but gone (at least in the capacity of the first), and titans are rare and shitty.

Such a disaster of epic proportions and I'm super sad

Definitely havent heard them stomping around on top, was actually hoping it was just because it was beta, but have quickly lost faith in that idea, lol.

You can only hear them jumping OFF, not ON... Which is extremely dumb...

Hopefully it's just a test issue, hearing feet was a small heads up someone was on your Titan before the AI callout and was a cool detail to have and people who would listen out for the sounds of feet could react faster then others.

thats always been the trait for the R series rifles

the R-101c in Titanfall 1 was very acurate aswell, its the go to, non specialized, get the job done weapon

Pretty much all this, Respawn how could you do this?

But even then it's not a bad first impression lol. It's still better than the best of COD. It's fun. I can't deny that this tech-test isn't fun.

It's just that i played a hell of a lot of Titanfall 1. I was obsessed with it, so compared to that it's a really big letdown.

They need to make serious adjustments immediately.

I too spent plenty of time on TF1 and have been anxiously awaiting news all year on this game. I'm not disappointed per say in most of the ADDITIONS, but the things they have taken away from the game do make it feel very differently from the first game.

To make TF2 the way I wanted it they need to add a couple things:

-Regen Shields on Titans (adds strategic play to fight or run from damage)
-Better Levels for speed to actually play a part again
-Give you back your sidearm and Titan take down weapon, not one or the other
-Give the grappling hook to every class, instead of just one

I haven't played a lot of the new test, just 4 or 5 rounds really, but for everything they added they removed a couple other pieces I wish they'd have kept. Still probably going to buy, but I hope Respawn pays attention and adds in bots for example, since that is completely messing with the game's flow.

That's the funny thing, Titanfall 1 feels like the sequel to this game.
I agree. :(

So much of what made Titanfall special to me just isn't here, but I don't believe it's broke beyond repair, I just hope they listen to feedback.

And hopefully Homestead isn't representative of the rest of the maps in the final game.

That footage 2:00 or so in where it's just a wide open field with pilots shooting at each other in stationary positions crouching behind rocks and in bushes. Wtf is this shit!?

Watched that video too so disappointing. I don't really play multi shooting games anymore. Don't care about Call of Duty. Don't care about Battlefield. Titanfall was the first multi fps I played in a long time because it was unique. All the sequel needed was more content and a single player campaign. Tweak the mechanics and level design but don't obliterate them into something more generic. Now it seems like the game is just another call of duty variant. Don't know why Respawn left making CoD to create something unique, just to turn it back into call of duty.

Growing on me a bit.

Off the top of my head:

Add back gradual titan meter (they said it was a bug so well see)

Higher time to kill

Movement less "sticky"? Or make it not so sensitive. Grappling hook might be the blame for this

Start with that. The ai shit I can live without just like the first game. Never liked it but if creeps in a shooter are that big of deal for people then I can see them add it. Also these 2 maps dont really help sell wall running right now.

Edit: agreed on grappling hook needs to be on all classes

while this is missing alot of stuff that made TF1 great im still having a good time playing this game, Respawn must be really afraid of how TF1 did.

In end game meta G2A4 and R97 are the best weapons. Post nerf R101 wasn't that OP.

I liked using the G2A4, it was a fun weapon but I forget what perks I had on it to make it good for me.

Interesting 'bug' when the orange part of the score counter slowly counts down when you are not earning points, forcing you to keep the action up. Sounds like an intended thing to me.

My issue with the current method for earning a titan is that it's treated like a killstreak more then anything, the change in making it an score you have to reach instead of a timer you aid by doing stuff is huge difference in practice when on paper it sounds similar.

It's kinda way too late to make all the changes that would be required.

Balancing grapple took a long time, over a year and a half. No-shooting-while-grappling went a long way towards achieving that balance.

Realistically, is there any chance that all the other concerns people have raised in this thread will be at least considered before release? Or is it too late for that?

I hope I'm wrong but I won't count on it. There isn't even a "we know your feedback and will look at things" vague response.

How do you get out the Titan without ejecting?

Hold X/Square. And yes don't eject, it is a quick death ticket.

Do you guys mind explaining why you decided to call this Titanfall 2? With the frequency of titanfalls, it should have been called Titanfall 1/2.

:). jokes. but really if you guys increased titanfalls it would start to feel like an actual game with titans.
A delay into Q1 2017 would be the right decision for so many reasons.

It's strange cause EA is releasing BF1 and it would probably help both franchises

Yeah, it's disappointing. This might be their last chance to turn TF into a major annual FPS (on the scale of COD and BF, I mean), and messing up many of the core elements they got right the first time doesn't seem the right way to do it.

I just played my first match of the weekend, and yeah, it was borderline unplayable, right up until the moment when the server died.

Yeah I've been disconnected a few times now in the middle of a match. Most matches have been unplayable as pilots are literally teleporting around the map :/

Why the fuck would the make maps where you can't take advantage of any of the parkour elements? There's all these interiors that are so small and dinky inside where you can't do shit except be an awful camper.

I am flabbergasted playing this game. Words cannot express my dissapointment, I mean they had a SURE thing. It would have been so easy to double down on what made the first game special and great. I don't get it.
